PS3 drops $100.00 starting July 12th

At the very least, the PS3 will be $100 cheaper at Circuit City from 7/15 to 7/21 (according to their Sunday Ad), but this is a pretty good indication that there will be a price drop (announced at E3) at retailers across the USA. Stay tuned to CAG, especially Speedy1961's Sunday Ad thread) to see if other retailers follow suit. Is the PS3 now a good deal at $500 with 5 free Blu-ray movies? A big thanks to Speedy1961 for the scoop!
UPDATE: GameDaily says they have confirmed the price drop will be retail-wide starting 7/12, after speaking with a "merchandising manager (who wished to remain anonymous) at one of the world's biggest retailers".
Hmm I might just get one now!

PS3 has been a disaster.
Sony overstimated the gaming industry.
Very few people would spend that kind of money for a Console, no matter how powerful it is.
Plus let's not forget that the majority of console customer are teenagers, it is really difficult for a kid to convince his father to shell out so much money for a piece of hardware when you got much cheaper consoles like the 360 and the Wii.
Kudos to Nintendo, they understood that the way to go was towards a cheaper but fun console rather than a more expansive packed with too many functions ala PS3.
So now I can go out and buy a $500 paperweight instead of a $600 one?

I'll buy one when there are games worth playing and not a second sooner. 5 Blu Ray movies, pffft, whatever. . .

In UK the price of this lovely piece of junk is 430 £ (roughly 850 Dollars).
For that price I can build a state of the art gaming PC or alternatevily a Wii and a 360 together...........I am kinda puzzled how Sony could have got it so wrong.
Yep that's right, UK gets shafted on the prices as usual. I'll probably get a PS3 at some point, for the blu-ray functionality if nothing else, but I'm in no rush to buy a PC-clone with crap software support, and the more price drops the better.

So with this price drop, will they be announcing the release of a dozen triple A exclusives? What? Microsoft will just buy their exclusives out? Oh, okay then I think I'll stick with my 360!

IMO i wouldnt waste any money on a PS3 for the fact that the ps2 was a horrible system yet the blamed us users for breaking them when in all actuallity they was just horrible made pieces of crap with more then decent games. I'm not saying the ps3 wont have good games, the system always had better (more known games) then any other system but the problem with them is thier history are you really willing to shell out over 500 bucks to replace it within a year? maybe even sooner? i personally havent played a PS3 nor have i read the bad or good things about them im sure it has alot of good things but look at its history with the ps2 and think about investing into a very expensive system before jumping the gun and being disappointed, thats just my thought on the situation ^_^ good luck

As much as your grammar hurts my eyes to read, you're pretty much right. The PS2 was a very cheaply made system, I went through three of them in the time that I had one xbox (which ran fine until the day that I sold it to Gamestop)

Do i care about showing my photos on my ps3? no....
Do i care about playing media on a PS3 when i have a PC? no.........
Is there any good games on the PS3? No.........
Tbh if MGS4 comes to the 360 then whats th epoint in buying a PS3 at all lol.
I agree with the trend of the thread though, even with a $100 decrease, the PS3 simply isn't worth the investment right now. I hope that changes in the future though, along with a larger and more permanent price drop.

Without GTA 4 and MGS 4 as exclusives, I don't see any reason at all to buy a ps3 anymore...I don't need resistance, I have Gears of War and Halo. I don't need Lair, I have a crap load of other games on the way that will more than satisfy (Fable should do nicely for the fantasy kick) I really can't think of any ps3 games that make me wish that I had one.

People want a game console not an overpriced microwave which can also play games.
PS3 is almost in competition with a PC..........and that's wrong
Why do you have an xbox360 then?
FWiW PS3 is very well built and almost no one has problems with them... Its expensive for a reason..

Microsoft claims that you can get 1 Xbox 360 and 1 Wii for the price of one Playstation 3. In reality, you get about 3 different Xbox360's and 1 Wii.

$100 price cut dosent change the fact that support for the console is on a steady decline. Why buy into failure? You might as well go buy an iPhone and a Microsoft Surface while you are at it. Price cut or not, at this rate the only place the PS3 will be on top is Australia, with its almost non-existant playerbase.
I wont even consider buying a PS3 until they either drop it to $300, or come out with a model without the worthless Blu-Ray drive.

Yeah I don't know. Ive been holding off on getting an xbox360 or a PS3. I am going to get one eventually I am just not sure which, lol. I am very tempted to get an xbox360 because of AoC. I guess ultimately it would come down to which one has better online services and more/better online games to pick from. It's nice to see they are finally dropping in price.

Lol, sure thing bub. Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Star Fox, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy: Crystal Bearers(hopefully in 07) Smackdown Vs. Raw 2008, Soul Caliber Legends, Super Mario Strickers Charged, Guitar Hero 3, Manhunt 2 (IF it comes out), and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Cronicles are ALL minigame collections
