Is this game a ghost town?`

MacsenMacsen Member Posts: 62
I downloaded the trial, was playing it for about 4 hours or so and in that period I found 1 player besides myself...

On the server selection it told me that there were 4k players spread on the servers and the one I chose had about 100 players...

Will I be playing this thing nearly by myself if I choose to play it?

The only servers with new players of any consequence are the classic cluster (Gareth, Lamorek and ...some other one)

I recommend you re-roll on Gareth as you'll find lots of lower level players and get a better feel for the game.

DAOC world is huge, and a server with a 100 people on it would resemble a ghost town.....

Ok. I failed to mention that I have the European client... I don't know if you are american or european but does your tip still applies?

Either way thanks a lot for the tip. I appreaciate it.

Yeah I will look for a server with over 1000 players on. Though in my list atm the bigger one has only 500 people :P

I was referring to the American client.  BTW... a lot of European players rerolled on Classic Cluster on American servers, you will find entire guilds who migrated over to play with during your prime time hours there.  If you can switch over I'd recommend it.

I think I might do that because most of the european servers look pretty empty atm...

hardly any servers with more then 100 players.

My only concern is the lag... I hate playing games located outside of europe because of connection issues...

I live in EU but used to play on the US servers. If you look at the classic US server cluster, specially on weekend evenings it can rise above 2000 peeps....hmmm, accually perhaps they get one more player tonight...would be nice to get that DAoC feeling back....been missing a good mmo for a while...well Mythic....you got yourself a deal....again...

Why do you play on US servers when you live in EU though?

Do you get a lot of lag there? I am thinking about doing the same as you just because of the lack of players in EU servers...

EDIT: Downloading the american client now... In about  1:30 hours I'll be trying it out.

The lag was acceptable...played 1/2 year ago and I think it was totaly Ok. Isnt there a trial for the US servers as well? (http://www.darkageofcamelot.com/download/) Yupp! I think u should get all expansions as well, if you decide to give it a go!

Don't get me wrong, DAoC is a great game, but you really need to find a server thats more populated. 100 people is pretty low, so you should be looking for a server closer to 1000 if you plan on grouping.
    i agree

I'm european as well and have played on the US servers from shortly before the release of ToA up untill now and find that i hardly ever had lag issues (had to buy new computer for Catacombs and up though). Rvring on a good computer with the oldest expansion available also helps a lot towards countering lag should you encounter some.

Look at the cluster numbers instead of the invidual server numbers (servers have been merged into one server called a cluster); this page has actual data on current logged in users: http://www.camelotherald.com/index.shtml (on the right hand side). US prime time peeks at around 2000 - 2500.

The classic servers have a better leveling up environment however lack access to one expansion (which requires additional pve and lvling on top of the max level).

Due to the player numbers I also choose to play on US server - since there are many europeans there, it is not really a problem regarding the time difference. with lag I had no problem a few months ago. It's a pretty good game, but with the hours I can put in, it would take me too long to get to levels where I could enjoy the RvR play :(

And yes, very few players in low level areas unfortunately. But that seems to be in many older MMOs (as someone already mentioned).

Yea, not to mention they are the jerk-off kind that are a bunch of elitist snobs. DAoC has a horrible community filled with elitist snobs.

They have 22 servers with an average player count of 200 per. Clusters max around 1000, some more ..most less.

So yea basicly a ghost-town. Keep in mind 30% are buff-bots.

The lowest the classic cluster gets is around 1200.  The others, if you starting playing around 5-6pm eastern will be 1200-1600 per cluster, while the classic cluster is around 2300.

I just started playing again my third roll with DAOC. My old server was not tooo dead but I rerolled on lamerok classic server because thats were alot of peeps were playing also I picked lam because it had lots of housing available.  There are low end people to group with all hours and the battle grounds are active. I am waiting for warhammer to come out was bored with everything else so came back to the game I love. good luck have fun I do.

Is it possible to live in Eu and play on usa servers without lag? i mean to do rvr. is it possible to do rvr against good people playing from Europe?

    thanks a lot

Since there are a lot of people from the EU playing on US servers I would have to say there is no to minimal lag.  If not, they would either play on the EU servers or not at all.
