Console haters?

I JW if PC people hated PS2 on FFXI people as much as anti-boxers hate 360 gamers now.... I don't remember PC gamers ever whinning this much. I play PC and I own a damn good setup and I still have owned just about every console on the market. Why do people cry so much? We are all gamers lol.

"OHHH! you suck! you cant afford a gaming PC for a game that requires 689 dollars to run aoc on min system reqs!!!" lol

Please don't flame here, JW if it was ever this bad on FFXI, if you guys played it.

I don't hate console users. Hell, I have a Playstation (original one from 6 months after it's debut), a PS2, a PS3 (see a trend, here?), as well as every nintendo system up to the Wii (that one's just a gimmick, to me).

What annoys me are the console users such as one who's thread I replied to earlier who tries to state AoC is only being put on PC to test it before it goes to it's main platform of Xbox360, stating that consoles outwiegh PC games because he seen hardly any PC games at gameshops compared to console games (he never heard of digital downloads apparently), as well as tried to portray WASD movement as some new awkward control scheme to try to match the ease of a controller (apparently he didn't know PCs had controllers available for years, or thar WASD has been around for years, but he was qualified PC user).

Oh, and he tried to portray the 360 as so much more powerful than a PC that it only made sense for Funcom to choose 360 over PC.

In other words, I don't hate console users. I hate console users who try to put there consoles up on some kind of pedestal while having absolutely no knowledge of what they speak.

And to be fair, there are the same types of idiots who try to do the same thing in regards to their choice of PC setup.

To sum it up, I hate blind fanbois.

OOOOOOOHHH.......ok, I get it, makes a little more sense now. I dont hear people complaining that much really. I know that the PC gamer crowd is abit different from the console crowd, one being the majority age. PC gamers are usually older and abit more mature and like games that are more mature. Thats why Civilization and Age of Empires are such hits, its just a different crowd. I bought an xbox 360 and had it for about 6 months before I decided to sell it because I only played a few sports games on it (sports games really have a ways to go on the pc) and that was a few times a month. Theres just something about a PC that I can do my taxes, look at some pron, read the news, rip my favorite dvds, then clear the screen for some Everquest 2. I dont want my PC in the living room and I dont think it'll ever be there.

The thing about consoles that is good is that you know any game released for them can be run well on them lol, a lot of console gamers think that is better than having an expensive computer that can cut through the best games like butter.

    About FFXI:

When the game was released on 360 last year, it seemed like a lot of immature ppl (or simply just kids) were trying it out. FFXI is a very mature game compared to WoW and such, and most players seemed to agree that the community was kinda "dumbed down" by the 360 players. I.e., lots of beggars with bad language skills appeared, etc. There was a lot of talk about it in Whitegate last summer.

Personally I can't pin that situation on 360 players, though.

OP, "We are all gamers", you say. Well, but all gamers are not the same, don't forget that.

That is true, however the parts that have always put the PC over consoles to me have always been 1.) variety of games, 2.) upgradabilty, and 3.) I can build my own.

.........and if I want, I can put a custom UI or even mod it. This is why PC games will always be around, because we'll all never be totally happy with what the game companies give us. I really hate being limited to whats on the DVD of the game, and heck, on 360 I cant even Alt+Tab to look at something else on the internets.......

    I have both.

By all means come and join us if you are a 360 gamer.  Why not?

I think a lot of the hate comes from PC gamers of the older variety getting annoyed by the boxers of the younger variety.

But if you really wanna see some fun, go get Shadowrun and watch the Mouse wtfpwn those joysticks of theirs ;)

A PC is vastly superior to a console in terms of functionality and - shortly after the console came out, if you spend enough money - in performance too. The only reasons to get a console are exclusive games that don't come out for PC, and much cheaper investment.

I recently joined the Xbox live community... and for the first 10 hours of Gears of War was very young voices spouting the F word and N word with all sorts of sentence enhancers inbetwen them....and Gears of War is Rated M, the same rating thats supost to keep these kind of people out of AoC.

Iv since then been muting people like crazy, iv got about 400 people muted

If i were to make a generalization of the oh...500 people iv met on Xbox live, id say yes, most are 12 years old... and my only interation with people has been in a MATURE rated game.

I don't hate console users, and I think people who do are immature. I do hate consoles, though, because they are expensive and do far less than a computer. At least the games are complete on consoles.

    It goes like this:

    Mac <-> PC <-> Xbox <-> PS <-> PC

As you can see from the chart, noone really cares for Mac at all, while PC is a central figure.
Xbox and PS share their cramped up non-upgradable lifestyle in the midst of two giant juggernaughts: The PC and the PC.

The hatred can never die as all way in the chart means WAR, for one reason of another.

Xenophobia and tehcnocracy being the major reasons..

Or to sum it up shorter: People are sheep and will hate everything outside their 'group' in order to feel like they belong to something.

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.

I'm a heavy console user, mainly 360, and the only PC games I ever play are MMORPGs (which I also play heavily). I have numerous concerns over AoC being released on the 360, however the userbase on the console side isn't one of them.

It really depends on how things are handled... the stereotypical screaming 12 year old is generally only found in certain types of games (in my experience, mostly FPS titles such as Gears of War, which one person already mentioned); so the proportion of those guys who will find their way into Conan is likely to be no more than we already have in the general PC-centric MMORPG playerbase.

Additionally, the 360 has a way to kind of filter the sort of people you're playing with by using 'zones' such as Underground (hardcore), Recreational etc. While this doesn't weed out every bad apple, it does make a little bit of difference; although I actually doubt whether this will be in effect for Age of Conan - I just don't see the logistics in it.

I have three main reasons why I don't actually think that the 360 release will see an influx of screaming kiddlings. Firstly, the price... where PC users have to pay for internet connection plus subscription; 360 users pay for those PLUS a fee for the Xbox Live service. The addition of a subscription is something very likely to keep out the casual gamers who just want to play for the sake of playing; and should play a part in whittling it down to those genuinely interested in MMORPGs.

Secondly, achievements. A hell of a lot of 360 gamers are just flat-out achievement-whores. Its like crack; and undoubtedly Microsofts most shrewd addition. Even if achievements are in Conan, its likely they'll be difficult to get and will require a long-term investment; which again whittles out those people who rent games for a few days just to boost their gamerscore. That said; their new PC-based live system could end up making achievements a PC feature for this game too.

Lastly, the track record of MMORPGs on the 360; or should I say 'MMORPG' - FFXI. While this did okay on PS2 considering it was the first pc-console crossover of its kind; it did abysmally on the 360 and was an absolute nightmare to play; simply because it was obviously not designed for console use. Now; if Conan is console friendly in terms of actual controls etc, then there will no doubt be people still put off by a poor showing by FFXI (not a bash on the game itself, just its 360 port)... and if its NOT console friendly, then those who try it out will probably switch to PC out of frustration, as I did with Final Fantasy.

So.... the FPS pwnage crews won't be interested, the achievement whores won't be interested, the casual pick-up-and-play crowd won't be interested and a lot of console-owing MMORPG "veterans" most likely won't be interested in playing it on 360... thats the majority of the bad cross-section of 360 owners out of the picture and, probably, a lot of the good ones too.

Thats just my over-excited, rambling take on it anyway :P

Nice post KingCaw, very nice indeed and it sums up exactly why PC gamers don't always mix well with Console gamers, for me I'm just not a fan of the type of games released on consoles.

I remember a lot of PC players in FFXi bitching about PS2'ers. When I'd ask why, I'd get teh  'just because comsoles suck' answer. Morons....really. Translation? 'dude, i paid a lot of money to play games on a computer, and now people can play em on a console, wtf??' It was such a silly attitude, but oh well. I played FFXI on PS2 and PC, which ever was easier at the time.

Thread moved to "The Pub at MMORPG.COM" since thread is about mmmorpg:s in general on consoles & not AoC specifically.
