I belive Professor Tolkien would love the idea of playing a chicken. The Hobbit was a book for children and LOTR is filled with "childish" things. The most silly behaving character Bombadil, is also one of the most powerful one. So if you belive chickenplay "degrade" Tolkien's work, I do not agree. BTW what is it about AoC and WAR that makes them a more real MMO for adults? Is it the nude mobs of AoC or WAR's drunken giant public quest ? 12 year old children will not love that, no sir.
Now I'm not sure about WAR, but in AoC there seems to be a massive ammount of blood, plus the nude mobs you spoke of, It also looks to have a more gritty , dirty, dark feel. Which IMO is something not many young kids will like.
But on topic, I think this chicken play thing could turn out well. This is very origional, and I havnt seen anything like it. Still though, it doesnt want me to play more, but then again thats probably not the point! I think the point is so that the current users have more fun, and thats a good buisness model to run with.
What was those things that they didn't do because it didn't go well with the lore and books. Playing a chicken does on the other hand, ok. In what way is that?
I have only followed this game in the forums but I think the lack of PvP between playing characters and not playing female dwarvs where one of the big nono'es from the Tolkien family following the licence.
In LOTR, animals are not mindless beasts ie the description thougts of the Fox. So I think you can let chicken fight evil while being loyal to the lore.

The chicken quests are only part of the in game festival! They will go away when the festival is over. WoW had silly quests during their festivals, same as EQ and EQ2. So annoying all the misinformation trolls like to spew.
speaking of mis information. The chicken quests are not part of the current mid summer festival, they are not even in the game yet. So far Turbine has not gave any info to indicate they will be temporary when they are put in. I am waiting for the boars to revolt myself, since countless millions have been needlessly slaughtered since launch.
Whether the diversion of playing special quests as a chicken is for you or not, many people are missing the point. The Session Play system is a new twist for the game and is definitely original. Also, the ease with which a single developer, in his spare time, was able to craft many hours of new content using the system opens up many future possibilities for this system.
Allowing players temporary control of characters and beings other than their own character, with rewards for your main character, has nearly limitless potential moving forward. A lot of things they couldn't allow for Player Characters could be allowed for Session Play. Rangers and Trolls in PvMP are in the update along with the Chicken Play. There is no reason we couldn't get session play content for those or similar personas outside of PvMP in the future.
If you havn't gotten it yet.. the idea is to allow you to see the world from the perspective of the animals! Last I checked the animals played a big part in the war too. If you read it properly you can talk to the storyline animals or animals of the main characters. How is that not in line with the story? It makes perefect sense to me and is an awesome idea. I always wanted to see it from their point of view.. now we can. You act as if they are WASTING TIME ON this.. yet it was developed by ONE PERSON on their FREE TIME. WTF? Why would you complain about something that hell frankly wouldn't happen on any other development team as far as i'm concerned. The fact that the developers are that passionate about the game just makes it that much better. It's a fun addition to the game that enhances our -MAIN- character.. so um it doesn't stray from your main at all. Roleplaying could EASILY be done with this. You could be someones pet chicken if that's what you wanted. Immaturity? The game was designed around simplisticy as was WoW. It was designed to be a form of entertainment.. not a second fking job. The graphics are done really well too. Warhammer = Cartoon POS game. All PvP? Go play a fking FPS for gods sake already... Not even worth my time.. it's just WoW with more focus on PvP rather then PvE.. 100% clone hands down... nuff said.. sux AoC = Admittably looks good and will give it a try, but it's a TOTALLY different style and story.. nudity? Come on.. If I want nudity i'll turn 2ft and tell my girl to strip.. This is a game.. I want fun factor.. not porn factor... Going back to the days of Duke Nukem I see? Where all I wanted to do was shoot shit and blow shit up.. not throw cash at strippers.. rediculous.. People like you piss me off. You beg for content or something "different".. the company delivers.. and you cry about it.. You're the type of person that is never pleased.. might as well take that leap off the cliff now, because it ain't gettin' any better.

Look to it from the positive site, turbine at least gives you free content! The sucking game of a wow make money from at least 4 milion player per month, but what was the last time we've seen such an enormous expansion as Evendim FOR FREE? NEVER! Stop the fking argumentless complaining and open your freaking eyes, this game is diffrent then you all think, the only problem is that you guys just can't look furter than the normal (WoW!) gameplay!
