Bah, what they need to do...

... is remove Jedi and put it back the way it was the first month sans bugs.

Yeah, many will bitch and moan, but I think it would get a cult following that would never let it die.

[edit]

And I say this LOVING the current space flight part of it... I'd give that up in a heartbeat

It won't ever happen, but it's a point to be made

    I hate ti say it.

But i really kinda hope SOE does nothing. Lucas Arts revokes the license. The servers shut down and we give SWG the proper buriel, attend its funeral and lay it to rest.

But with SWG having passed into the digital after life... work can begin on the next Star Wars MMO. Lucas Arts can accomodate to and tempt back the old SWG-community with familiar images and maybe even past-developer faces (Koster, anyone?) who they all knew and loved. Raise the brain child and restore what had been lost in a new gaming era. Or at least a new Star Wars MMO golden-age.

Its hard to admit, but Star Wars Galaxies is on its death bed and those of us who still miss it dearly.. are paying the medical bills to keep it on life support. Its time to pull the plug my friends and put SWG to rest. Humanely. That way we can all raise its child to some day become a great MMO that we can all love and cherrish just as we did SWG.

LOL ' play a different game'

Yeah I so remember that. But, unfortunately, it's stuff like that getting back to LA which probably started the holocron downfall of the game.

Was I the only person with no interest in becoming a jedi?

You were far from the only one.  The problem was, the only content added to the game, outside of a couple crappy expansions, was the Jedi village.  The fact that everyone went there to actually do some quests, was interpreted by the folks at SOE as "Every wants to be a Jedi!".  They even used the number of folks doing the village quests to try and justify making Jedi a starting class.  They could have added a village where the end goal was to unlock a Gungan character, and just as many people would have gone there.  They never understood that it wasn't the end goal of the village that was the draw, it was that there was actual content there, content that couldn't be completed in one play session, like the Geo cave and the Death Watch Bunker.  The cave and bunker were little more than just dungeons with loot drops, where the village had actual quests, quest that changed every three weeks.

I wouldn't be surprised if the folks at SOE looked at the Launchpad numbers, saw that everyone who plays one of their games uses it, and decided to make their games more like the Launchpad.  That is the stupidity that displayed with the village.

No you weren't. I wanted to be a smuggler from day one, and I was a smuggler on the day I quit. No jedi grind, no profession hopping. But alas, my place in thier world had no meaning and was treated and such.

    /raisehand.

I also had zero interest in being a Jedi. My character was a dancer. I was happy with her that way. I never did try to unlock her FS slot, even when "anyone" could.

That is a perfect way to put it.  I felt the same playing a dancer and a CH/TKA. My characters' place in their world had no meaning and they treated them as such.

"Was I the only person with no interest in becoming a jedi?"

Hah not at all. Started on Sunrunner as a CH/Ranger. Loved it. This was before mounts were in the game. Then went to Starsider, and made an Architect/Swordsman, loved it as well. Played both for a while (for as long as possible). I never had any intentions of becoming Jedi at all. Didn't unlock either slot, and didn't try either. I was perfectly happy with what I was doing with both characters, that Jedi actually didn't even cross my mind, not once (ok maybe once, but who didn't think about it once?)
