Credit Card Required...?

Hey,
Im soon gonna play LOTRO and was wondering, We get one month free right? but like WoW etc do we need a credit card (even though its not charged) ?
I know that we can get gamecards etc, and needing a credit card isnt much of a problem, my dad works over-sea's so I can get his - and my brother whos in university thinks "WOW IS KING WOW IS GOD OF ALL MMO's" and doesnt let me buy any other MMO's lol.
Well anyway, is it required?

I have recently created an account and it required a credit card in order to finalize the account even though i know there are 60 day game card that you can buy

I have played every MMO that has ever come out.
I didn't need a credit card for my wife's account - it asks you for your key number, then directs you to the payment options page. I put in the game card number there...
