I saw a thread like this on the AoC official forums. So I thought I would copy the idea and put a thread like it in here.
Mainly this will be a "time capsule" thread, meaning, we will revive it October 30th.
Talk about what you expect from AoC, how it looks...and maybe your fears and excitment about the game/development etc...
Try to keep on topic too.
Anyways, post away! The floor is yours and we will bring this post alive October 30th to see if any of our fears or whatever have came true or were just hoaxs.

I expect AoC will do great, and do things other MMOs haven't done befor. I also read somewhere that the NPCs wont be static. That sounds pretty cool to me. But, alont of people are expecting AoC to be this fantasticly amazing game that will be the answer to their prayers, and it will give them everything they've wanted from an MMO. There's going to be alot of unhappy people if/when this dosn't happen.
I just hope they can give us what they promissed. So, what do I expect from AoC? Well, I expect everything they've promissed. The new combat system was really cool in DDO, will be very neat in AoC as well. I also expect all the classes to be really deep, and have alot of meaning. Not just a class is devoted to healing, and another is mainly tanking. FunCom even said that all of the classes will be able to do decent damage and able to defend themselves.
So long as FunCom delivers what they said they're going to. I expect this game to go really far, and hopfully be able to take WoW down (Doubt it, but it's ok to hope, right?). Another thing I expect is the PVP aspect of the game to be really good. I'm really looking forward to the seige part, and taking rival guilds down and then becoming the top guild on a server and taking down opposing guilds whenever a threat arises. Will definatly be really cool if done correctly.
On a side note, does anyone know how big the seige instances are going to be? Like 20 man, 40 man, ect?
(I was really bored and just kept typing in the post lol)
One of the main things I hope they keep to is player crafted items being top of the line even compared to longer dungeon raid loot, hard to make obviously but still very important in the endgame.
I'm also looking forward to see how PC cities turn out as major trade centers, if they do, and I just can't wait to see the graphics on my comp... they look amazing
P.S. Drunken bar fights for those bored times after hours of grindage!!!
Bumping this so we can start posting more about what we expect from the game.

I have MMO burnout and I am hoping this game holds my interest for more than a week. I will be picking it up for the 360 so I can play with friends and I am just hoping for the best.

Darkfall: December or vaporware!
My main fears stem from the lack of promotion for this game and the lack of videos showing us processes in the game. City seiging and building are examples where we have video that is months old, very little in the way of ranged combat videos, I have yet to see anything about crafting and what few videos we have been seeing recently make the game look like a never ending grind marathon of killing mobs.
This game is less than 4 months from release with little information released or, preferrably, shown. I know and have seen more of WAR online than AoC and WAR isn't expected for at least another 4-6 months after AoC.
Don't get me wrong, AoC promises to provide an awesome game experience from what the devs say and write...the only problem is that is most of what you see, lots of promises with little proof thus far. I have just been burned too many times by companies that stay hush hush until release, and I just hope they open the flood gates of information before release.
Cheers! (and heres hoping this game rocks!)

Its gonna rock your world BABY
Disembowlement and nudity in this game will never be taken away by court orders, or lawsuits....
My main worry is the animations. The casting animations look a bit dry, and the "sliding in combat" desperatly needs to be fixed. I really hope they beef up the casting animations and give them a bit more substance. Its just a couple of arm movements, and then standing there like ho-hum. I want the guy looking like he's unleashing all the fury within.

AoC looks great. It s bringing in a bowl of fresh air to the MMO genre and taking risks in areas that most players feel comfortable with.
I m looking forward to it for sure. Main concerns are lag...
I've been in a MMO burnout too for some months, but i expect from AoC to be a great game with awesome graphics, a guild vs guild system, a good crafting and of course a full Hyborian ambience. I dont hype it to be the best MMO ever but a polished and true-to-the-bloody-lore game and thats the way it gets hyped so high: to be what its meant to be, not the Holy Land of MMOs Salvation.
Keep an eye on Fury.
It is a question of fangs.
I am pretty confident that AoC will do well once it comes out, it looks very promising and from what info I have gathered I definately want to see what it will bring to the table. The combat system is new and of course there will be alot of negative nancies complaining because thats what they do but Im willing to give it a chance and see how it works out.
The crafting seems pretty interesting and I hope that they make the craftable items to be the top of the line items, regardles of what the matts may be. That means that the game will have devoted crafters and the economy of the game will be run by the players it also means that it makes crafting WORTH IT.
I really dont have any fears about this game, I just want to get my hands on it, I love how the begining of the game is single player, its so much easier to learn and you can grind those first few levels without having to worry about your targets being tagged by other people.
I guess my only concern will be the damn gold farmers spamming the chat with nonsense and my ignore list will reach the cap limit.

I cant wait for the Guild PVP combat to me thats why I am buying this game and because of the unique combat system and graphics.

Considering the development time of AoC I am crossing my fingers that the bugs (for the most part) will be hammered out. That being said i am trying to control my excitment for the game because of past dissapointments (WoW, EQ2, VANGUARD!!!). I look forward to seeing a somwhat older community, nice solid gore and blood (sticking with Conan lore) and FOR ONCE PLEASE FOR ONCE have some sort of a story (live action and changing as the game progresses).
I have no doubts that the game will be entertaining but my hopes are that the community will be to notche!
Looking forward to the graphics and trying the combat system
Biggest concerns are server side lag and bugs
I miss DAoC
Expectations:
For the game to release on time,
For the combat system to be every bit as innovative as already shown,
To be fun after playing for a while and to still be fun after playing for a long time,
I expect to form great friendships in game with like minded people,
I expect the game to cater for several types of player - all fairly (as best as can be) from crafters, to hardcore PvPers, etc etc
I expect the RP servers to be huge amounts of fun and to bring another awesome element to the game and create more longevity.
I expect the PvE cities to be something earned and to give a sense of acomplishment.
I expect the Battlekeeps to be tough to hold but fun to do so aswel, there is nothing like a rush of blood!
I would expect the servers to be full for a long time to come.
I would expect bugs / glitches within the first few months of play, but nothing game destroying.
I would expect an awesome array of clothing, armor and weapons.
I would expect some formidable foes both human and monster.
I would expect the game to look magnificant in dx9 and dx10.
I would expect the game community to be mature on the whole as it has been shown to be over the last few years during the wait.
Hopes:
I hope that players aren't limited to their country's server and that players can play from all over together.
I hope there would be continual development with expansions as shown in AO.
I hope people aren't overly hyped and disapointed if there is something they don't like.
I would hope that players have the sense to explore all of the game before making any negative assumptions.
I would hope that the crafting is as diverse as the character types in game and offer fruitful rewards if you took it up.
I would hope that Funcom continue to stick to the lore as best as possible over the years.
I hope that anyone considering getting into an mmorpg gives it a try and I also hope that those "jaded" gamers out there give it a go with a clear conscience and look for all the positives the game can offer them, instead of possibly dwelling on a few things they don't like.
I hope that the game is optimised for multiple core CPU's and not just one or two, or that it could be in the future.
I hope that people interested in the game from these boards continue to ask any questions, on the contrary I hope that those not interested in the game just move on!
Exactly how I feel about this game. Very little proof. People want to see what they will be getting before they buy. Take WAR for example, the devs are constantly releasing info. I did however watch some videos of AOC's combat during the first 5 lvls and I wasn't too impressed. It didn't stir up that inner need to play! Animations look very odd and clunky and that just immediately puts a nasty taste in my mouth. There is a certain level of sophistication that is expected nowadays and a game not delivering balanced and smooth animations could be a signal of other things.
I also do not believe in the "its in beta" argument any longer. There has been too many games of late where that argument was proven wrong.
I am just going to wait until a month after release. I am not going to be fooled either by the initial hype the week after release. Ironically, every game is viewed as the holy grail during it's first week. But after the new fresh car smell disappears the truth seems to reappear.
I will be checking the forums for the truth about this game a few weeks after release. As someone said before, there is too much competition out there for our gaming dollar to be making rash subscriptions to game developers who are tight lipped.
I fear mainly if 1) class balance especially for pvp, 2) if aoc dont have efficient number of skills or combos in order to attract more people and that will end in less challenging game play.
Less i fear animation cause time is enough to fix .
I hope nothing of that come true cause already i like graphics and idea of guild v guild territorial dispute .
If nothing of what i and rest of you wrote of what we all fear most happen ,i fear that if i dont get in from day 1 (atleast on eu pvp server that i am planning ) i want find kick uss guild (pvp) cause they will be already full .
I could not have said that better myself. That said I expect AoC to be at best a niche game reaching about 500k subs at its peak. I suspect that it will deliver on the key features that make AoC unique. Granted I always have higher hopes for mmorpgs than they actually turn out to be. But so long as it comes close to my expectations, Ill be playing it for a long time to come.
I expect lag so bad it makes the game unplayable.
If you thought vanguard was bad, you will cry when you see AoC's 100 vs 100 lag generator.
A: Vanguard GENERATED ITS OWN LAG, heavy pop PvP siege lag is not comperable
B: Everyone is worried about lag, big shock
Of all that is written, I love only what a person has written with his own blood. -Nietzsche
Ehh, AoC will generate its own lag by having high poly models for everything, with large textures, and then the whole "twitch" combat thing all rolled into one.
Can't have massive battles and over the top graphics and still have it work.
Or everyone fighting will have to switch their client to low settings before going to RvR...which kind of defeats the whole purpose of having good graphics.
Gonodil All you do is bash this game. Why don't you go find a game to LIKE instead of being a miserable person. WHo are you trying to convice? Whats wrong are you mad because your guild picked a different game, and you'll have to play that, so you try to bring others down with your negative POST Storm? Are you just trying to get your Rank here on the forums up, by posting nonsense on ever board?
Ok, so turning your GRAPHICS settings DOWN has ZERO to do with Server Lag. If a person builds a top of the line PC, that can handle the graphics for this game it'll run smooth, if they have a very outdated machine they will lag. This has NOTHING to do with the game, but rather the computer its played on. They've said from day one this game is designed for DX10 machines, but will be backwards compatabile with DX9.
1. Its not so much twitch as you think.
2. Its not RvR you have the wrong game here mate.
3. No matter how far you turn the graphic settings down you wont find an Orc - sorry!
