i tried it, and it runs like crap. i have a 5600 X2 8800 GTS 640 mb and i cant run it on max really well. so performance to say the least is subpar. and secondly not to knock it as this is merely my opinion, it seems like a Sims online in a robust 3d engine. there is alot of stuff im sure from clothes, to making houses, and other relatively mediocre activities, i can probably do in the real world.

its more like a 3d chatting room nothing more, with rather wide range of  features that mimic the real world, clothes, stores, housing. like i said similar to Sims Online. id know maybe its just me, i dont see it as my "thing" but i say hey ones mans garbage is another mans treasure. go nuts have fun. I think ill be staying away from this game.

Well when I had the game installed I went around getting free items and thats pretty much it. It runs like absolute crap on my comp so I couldn't really have fun with it. But from the graphics alone I'd say it's a shit game. Entropia universe looks like a more inticing 'real life' game.

There's plenty to do in Second Life! It has many games within the game. I've done alot. In the Sanchon sim the PiratesofSL group has weekly pirate battles with working pirate ships. The ships sail on SL's wind, shoot cannons at each, and sink after being disabled and having their sails shot up. After that we have melee battles on the ground.

I used to go Nascar racing. There was/is a nascar track where you could buy a car and tune it up to race. I think I've won a couple in my day. Quite exciting races. Now theres a bunch of tracks around, motorcycle racing, go carts, formula one, etc. I'm not sure who holds which events when. Might want to check the places and groups for them.

There are also many roleplaying places in second life, or at least attempts at it. There is a Star Wars roleplaying community for example. Whole sims that base entire planets. There is a couple of Tattooine/Mos Eisley sims, nicely made too and a bunch of other places. People can buy or make their own lightsabers, the kit to make them is free, there is also many free weapons and ships to get around. There's medieval roleplay areas too and vampire and ones in modern day settings, with modern weapons.

Many Roleplay places have strict rules for dress and conduct. Roleplay in Second Life isn't kiddie like WoW, many take it seriously, you have to act out the part, not just play for combat. However, it's very hard to run a decent roleplay. Many places are dying on the vine, due to strict rules owners make, things end up not being fun. Many just come for quick action, not finding any they tend to stand around or leave (at least in the Star Wars sims I've seen this). It's wierd.

There are other things to do, sailing, flying, combat (the quick kind), exploring,  surfing, swimming, scuba diving, watching movies, making art. Typically many folk enjoy going to clubs and dancing, at the very least Second Life is best at being a social places. Many But Second Life is what you make it and what you choose to do with it. It's not like any other game, technically its not a game but a virtual world, with games in it (and anything else one can think of).

The lag in tends to be a constant in Second Life, depending on your computer and the number of people and textures and scripts to load at a current time. But people learned to live with it. Those that don't leave second live and work with it, come here to whine.  Certainetly it's got more lag then any other mmorpg, this is because of all the many different things to load. Best to turn down settings. There is other unstable elements, crashing sims, bugs, crashing clients, and griefers. But as long as ya know how to handle things, and are capable of living with it, the benefits outweigh the bad.

As far as making money that people mention, it is possible, though hard. The people that make the most would be land barons, real estate people. Other high rollers might be casino owners, though the Lindens are restricting their advertising now. Others might be clothing makers, a big fashion industry filled with eye rolling drama. :) One of my friends makes good money in fashion. Personally I build things and sell them. I love building, I've made a working raft, a bunker, a cabin, a medieval siege vehicle and other things. For artists its a great way to earn some money. Others can make money by singing and music too. I've seen live concerts of musicians being held. A great way to earn tips.

Others like this "2L$ every ten minutes" do camping. You sit your av on its butt all day. Not too fun imho. Better to be creative, make original things, sell at decent prices. I've earned a bunch from free slots events at casinos there too. Running a club doesnt earn too much, unless you have alot of people who tip alot. Oh I won a bunch in contests, fighting tournaments and once one the "most perviest" for having the a perverted looking avatar. I wore a old homeless man avatar, in his underwear. Second Life can be crazy at times. Or maybe its just me.
