Do you feel Eye of the North coming out too soon?

BattleFelonBattleFelon Member UncommonPosts: 483

I don't think I'd ever say this about a GW expansion, but I'd have preferred the release date of Eye of the North get pushed back a few months.

Personally, I felt the Factions and Nightfall got released too close together so that I had barely beat the Factions campaign before Nightfall came out. The space in between expansions is a little better this time around, though I was hoping to have until Oct or Nov to get my dervish through all the Nightfall missions. Unfortunately, it looks like there's now going to be an even wider gap between the end of GW 1 and the release of GW 2.

Does anybody else feel this way? I'm not worried so much about ANet rushing the last expansion as I'm worried about the long gap before we see GW 2 . I'm also worried that releasing at end of summer means Eye of the North has a very brief window before Hellgate London and Age of Conan release that October.

Actually the expansion kinda did. If Anet continued along the campaign release structure, we would have had a new one around april 28th this year. But we're getting GW:EN in August.

That is a rather unconventional concern.  "Damn it, more material from Anet and too quick...arggggg"

Obviously the easy resolution is don't buy it until you're ready for it.  The fact of the matter is you do not want to fall behind the crowd.  The "Jones Effect" (where you have to have everything your neighbor has or vice versa) is very powerful in games like this.  I don't think (as of this moment) that the wait between GW1 and GW2 really matters.  I like GW1 enough that I would keep playing whether or not GW2 was coming out or not.  I have plenty to accomplish until that point so wake me up when GW2 finishes with closed Beta.  Until that point meh.

I also expect to see a Sorrows Furnace type update after GW:EN and before GW2.  When I get home I believe I will be doing my pre-order for GW:EN

I don't feel the time intervals between Nightfall and GW:EN is too close at all. Thats about 10 months between the two, unlike Nightfall and Factions 6 months.

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

It's hard to play the game , when it's new version or edition is releasef . I think i will feel uneasiness , if i will play the GW when GW 2 will be released . I am also woring will there will be priority for old GW players ? Or there won't be any priority for old players and it would be the best for absolutly new GW 2 players ( absolutly i mean that players , that they even didn't play GW , Factions , NF and EotN ) and it also would be the best dignity for all players . But I still will be upset , when i spent some cash on GW , had a lot of expeience in it and i won't get anything in GW 2 for it .

First you must give , only than you can take .

Dertomok I am a little confused by your post, but I hope this helps you out:

IGN: Why is this expansion called Eye of the North?

    Chris Lye:
The Eye of the North is actually a plot device, and Ben can talk a little bit more…

Ben Miller: The Eye of the North is actually the central area in the Far Shiverpeaks that contains what's called the Hall of Monuments. It basically serves as the focal point for the whole plot and the narrative. What the Eye of the North does is it basically is this big magical tower that shows you visions and helps drive the plot forward.

IGN: So what does it look like?

Ben Miller: It's a gigantic, monolithic tower. It's going to be awesome and dominating. It's a gigantic, gigantic piece of architecture.

IGN: Is the Hall of Monuments a communal space where people meet up?

Ben Miller: So there's the Eye of the North, and an interior portion of the Eye of the North is an area called the Hall of Monuments which is another one of the big features of Eye of the North. I don't know how many more times in a sentence I can use Eye of the North but I think that one is the winner. What the Hall of Monuments is, it's an area that will dynamically change to reflect your personal accomplishments within the Guild Wars world. When Guild Wars 2 comes out, your Guild Wars 2 characters will be able to inherit this eternal legacy that your Guild Wars 1 characters have basically immortalized within the Hall of Monuments. It's something that's personal to your character.

IGN: In terms of what goes into the Hall of Monuments, from what I've read it just says accomplishments and things like for this expansion and previous campaigns - is that retroactive? Meaning, if you already completed some of the accomplishments do you have to go back and complete them again after you get Eye of the North to register them in the Hall of Monuments?

    Ben Miller:
It's one hundred percent retroactive. You won't need to start a brand new character or anything like that so if you've already accomplished some of things that it will recognize, it will automatically do that without you having to go redo them.

IGN: So what do you actually get for these accomplishments in Guild Wars 2?

Ben Miller: We want it to be something that will set you apart from other characters that haven't necessarily played, haven't necessarily inherited those accomplishments. We want them to be meaningful and we want them to be rewarding for the amount of time that some of these accomplishments take to actually get. There are many different ways to do that in Guild Wars 2 and as Guild Wars 2 evolves there'll be more specifics. Right now we've just been throwing around general things like you may be able to get unique looks for you character, unique companions, and any manner of other things that we think fit the bill for rewarding you for your investment in the original Guild Wars franchise and also visually, well not necessarily only visually, but distinctly set you apart from other from Guild Wars 2.

Chris Lye: The final intention is that someone who made a huge investment in the original Guild Wars series of games, when they come into Guild Wars 2 and they have their inheritance through the Hall of Monuments, they will look and feel significantly better than someone who didn't.

I just wished they released a beta weekend or something so I can get an idea of what the expansion will be liek.

But hell, Imma buy it anyway. The worst time about it is that it comes out near the start of the school. It cuts my time able to play it.

BattleFelon, you still have the option not to get it at launch ;)

Even though it's an expansion it still isn't a "be there or be square" kind of a deal.

emdt, I wish that too however, unlike Factions and Nightfall, where you could create new characters, GW:EN is for lvl 20 peeps. They might have found it too risky to allow existing characters to step a foot in there (Technically, what if your character got stuck in a beta map? Also in regards to the economy, with rare drops etc.). That's my guess anyway.

I thought of that but, A-net create a option to join the beta area by creating a new toon or something.

Btw, does anyone know anything about a pre release cd?

Sure, what about the skills though? Should they be treated as PvP characters and have access to what you have unlocked while still being really PvE? Or have only a fixed skill template?
