The Department of Offended Warhammer Geeks have been notified of this heresy of comparing WAR to a Korean PnC grinder! You will be "corrected" by the local witchhunter...SOON!
Which one will be more popular? Obviously WAR will be. It has generated a near-insnae amount of hype, it is based of a legendary tabletop series, the company that is making it is known for developing one of the most respected MMOs ever (DAoC), and it has the LARGEST publisher behind the game which has enough marketting money alone to push the game ahead of AION.
Agreed. You don't need to be a fortuneteller to know that WAR will sell insanely often during the first week. 200.000 Beta Applicants during the first week, the long-term Nr. 1 Hyped Game here on MMORPG.com (and various other sites), the wonderful and fanboi-laden IP of warhammer in its back... the facts simply state that WAR will be a HUGE initial success. And EA will make sure that no MMORPG Player won't have heard about WAR at release...
I, as fan of Warhammer Games, and WAR in particular also think that WAR will stay a lot of fun for quite some time to come, but that remains to be seen. However, I certainly prefer WAR (partially because I haven't got one little bit of info about AION, or was it that strange game where you play winged Characters who can fly?)
I just don't get it..i mean i see WAR as a good game and it's kinda like Wow's big brother, an all they really focus on is basically Pv this and Pv that. And trust me, I've done my research. People are gonna get tired of it really quick Also, the only way WAR has such a large audience is because of EA.

I think The Deparment of Offended Warhammer geeks should spend 5 minutes of research on Aion. If they had done 5 minutes of research on aion they would have known
1: Aion is build on WASD movement, not Point & click
2: Aion is not build around grinding, developers are trying to avoid number grinding as much as possible.
Warhammer has a wonderful storyline and awesome art design so it 'll be a great contender to Aion. Not to mention every Warcraft fanboy will try it out anyways since they'll be tired of their game soon enough...
WAR. I just can't get over the graphical style of eastern games. I absolutely hate the way they make the male characters always look so girly. If I wanted to play a female looking character then I would just play one. Why would I want to play a metrosexual character? How realistic is it for your male character to look like he spent more time in the bathroom getting ready then practicing with his sword? And yes I think they should make the female characters less sexy looking and more like what an actual female warrior character would look like. Bikini armor is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. Personally I don't think an eastern MMO will ever do well in the Western market. At least not unless they change the art style of their games.
Directed at certain people in general...
True that it's highly unlikely for any asian mmo to dominate the western market. If they changed their art style, it would appeal more to western audience, but then unappealing to asians, which would contradict the point... The same for western game developers, apparently... And obviously, there's a market for asian mmos over here, as is... Also, hopefully people would understand culture. Heck, American culture is going that way too (with all the tanning, hair highlights, etc. ). The point is, these characters look closer to Koreans, than some Americans (AOC, WAR, etc.... TBH, most caucasians I see don't look like those characters, even though they're known to be key features of caucasians)...
(I hope people already knew this to begin with--that there's different cultures... Note - it's fine if you don't like it though, but don't make derogatory comments...)
I simply can't stand the anime look of those asian mmorpgs - too bright, too colorful, too childish. Just not my taste. Age of Conan is probably the way I'd picture the perfect game, a dark and violent environment - WAR is probably something in between with it's comic graphics
Maybe I've missed out some great games because of my personal dislike but then again the asian ones I've tried so far really disappointed me.
I might give it a try once they release a trial version - but honestly it's nothing I'm really looking forward to.
Obviously WAR will be The initial winner, it is based of a legendary tabletop series, the company that is making it is known for developing one of the most respected MMOs ever (DAoC), and it has the LARGEST publisher behind the game which has enough marketting money alone to push the game ahead of AION. War just looks to be more of the same to me..After WoW, tehn LotR...man, somethings got to change....ANYTHING
Yeah, there should really be a game which focusses on PvP, which has the Fluidity of Gameplay like WoW, but without the Bunny Hopping/Circle Jumping of it. Some game which looks better than WoW, but does not have insane PC Requirements. Some game which maybe has Collision Detection, so that you can't just run through the tanks, and where taunts and tanking abilities actually have a use in PvP as well.
Oh wait...WAR features all of the above, it IS the desired change. Inform yourself about WAR, you'll love it
Don't get me wrong, Aion looks like a great game. The problem with Aion is that it is being developed/published by NCSoft . . . which has proven to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have total apathy toward their EULA.
Let me explain. I played Lineage 2 for 3+ years. I loved the game and its community. The game is a grind, and it takes forever to level - but the game is so intense that you really don't notice. It's not a sprint to get to the max level, it's more of a journey. I guess what I am saying is that I have absolutely no problems with Lineage 2 or its game mechanics.
I DO, however, have a problem with NCSoft. The biggest issue? Their unwillingness to deal with people who use bot programs. The botting has been going on since the game went live, and has progressively gotten worse. There are two types of bots in Lineage 2. 1) Bots used for gold farming. 2) Bots used for levelling.
Bots used for gold farming are the easiest to spot. Bots will often spend hours killing themselves on town guards. Since you lose experience each time you die - by killing themselves on town guards, these bots prevent themselves from outlevlling the hunting area they are farming. It is not uncommon to see 50+ naked dwarves (they put their gear in their "bank", because you can also drop your gear when you die) killing themsevles endlessly by attacking town guards. All NCSoft would have to do is send a GM to a town this is occuring in, and they would see for themselves. NCSoft does nothing about this.
People are also using bots to quickly reach max level. This is especially discouraging when you've been playing the game for 3 years and you're suddenly competing with someone who has been playing for like 3 weeks. Throw in all the ebayed gear these people are using, and you've got one mell of a hess.
Personally, I will never play another game developed by NCSoft.
War just looks to be more of the same to me..After WoW, tehn LotR...man, somethings got to change....ANYTHING

Can I fly while in combat? Cuz THATS truly different. Aion reminded me of the old game, 'Legend of Dragoon' did anyone play that?
WAR is just another orc fantasy game. certainly, the features you listed sound cool...but its still the same old theme.
The game I am most looking forward to is Pirates of the Burning Sea...no a damn Orc or Elf in site. Darkfall is the next major fantasy game I am loking forward too, assuming of course that tehy deliver all they promise (a rare thing these days).
I've not really followed either of these 2 games really. I knew a bit about WAr and never heard of AION. (another advantage to WAR, its tabletop following) )But when i saw the poll, i checked a quick glance at each, and it just looks to me like Aion would be a more unique experience.

I agree that war has the same old races of Orks and Elves and stuff but consider this.
War isant out yet so who knows the 'Races' may actually be fun.
Games workshop were one of the first people to use Orks at all and elves and it was warhammer that defined the modern ork [green skin warlike]. SO they are not coppying other games or Genras as they creted it in the first palce.
The races are very different to the generic fantasy molds for example. Elves are cold arogant and selfish [And thats just the 'Good' Elves].
And finally the storylines are very origonal [Blizzard got sued over warcraft 3 for this and wold have lost if they haddant settled out of court].
Its also important to not that all of Blizzards great games [excluding perhaps diablo] Was an almost carbon copy Of Warhammer games, this is especially true for Starcraft [almost identicle races and background].
I chose Warhammer truly because of what I've seen so far. It looks good.
I reviewed AION and I think it can go far as long as graphics overhead doesn't screw it. When I see AION, I think of Vanguard. It had a lot of promise, nice concepts, looked good in video, but sucked as a game because of the graphic drain. If it can find a way to tame the amount of resources it looks like it needs and the game plays as smoothly as the video, then it will do very well in the MMO market.

as I mentioned before, at E3 when my two friends went; they said Warhammer Online felt very much like WoW, but upgraded and better pvp. Now could they have been wrong? Sure. They aren't in beta, neither am I...I'm just going by what they said from what was at E3. Then again, maybe people are looking for a better WoW with better PvP.

Ah, okay, my bad. LOL. Yeah, I just think all this comparing one MMO to another is a bit silly considering the only real common things I think WAR and Aion will have are they're single character controls, possibly a level system (just different scales and ranks possibly?), and you get equipment (swords, armor, etc). As for goals for players and developers, they're totally different beasts. I believe in Aion, the developers are trying to make the gameplay a bit more 3d in the respect that flight for some characters in combat situations will be possible (sorta like the idea in old Shadowbane, but I hope they do it *better*). And WAR is really DAOC-RVR 2.0 (minus ToA raid bull----!), and more RVR centric stuff (even the quests will probably be majoratively RVR post-whatever-rank (I hope level 5, but that's just me...)).
Having played neither it would be hard to say really
Aion sounds semi interesting but I have yet to find an Asian mmog that I really really enjoyed. Lineage2 I liked for a while, especially the castle sieges. However, there was a way too much drama on my old server Lionna I think it was. The most fun I had had in that game was running around near the end of my days there hunting and killing farmers. There is just something kind of exciting running around red to everyone and having your guildmates running pickup macros to grab your gear in case you got your backside handed to ya lol.
WaR really has a lot going for it. But, for all that it has going for it it could very well turn out to be a major dud. There is a fine line between success and failure. It seems to me that the folks at Mythic have set out to make one hell of a pvp mmog (not mmorpg) and I think that if everything goes just right and all the stars are in proper alignment then WaR will really be the most entertaining of the mmo's coming down the pike.

Crappy asian generic mmo or a pvp oriented mmo made by an experienced crew......let me think about this
