The dinosaur speaks...

I wish people would stop this obsession with stats and money and the "most effective way(tm)". I see threads dedicated to arguing over pittances like $20. I see powergamers wanting MORE.

Remember instead the stories, the plotlines, the gratification when your sword hits flesh, the look in the barmaids eyes, the GAME. This is not chess, this is immersive gaming. Put the RPG back in MMORPG. Live the life. Explore the countryside instead of running straight-arrow towards Quest Objective A . Contrary to popular belief, playing classes or characters that aren't statistically superior in every way can be FUN (you remember that word, right?) Stop to wonder at the coolness of summoning a demon or the glitter of a particularly well-created piece of armor. Re-create the fantasy, drama and energy of those old pen-and-paper sessions with friends. Create an experience with the people you meet. Fullfill your responsibility to the gameworld. Complete the immersion. Unlock the full potential of the game. Everybody wins.

Who really wants to see a barbarian say "l37z g3t ph4t l3wt"?

While I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment, experience has shown me that you and I are in a minority...

Do you seriously believe that People won't rush the game, min-max their characters, and whine on the Forums if they lose two times in a Row to a certain class, and cry for the Nerf Bat?

But well, all MMORPGs have this "Problem", all one can do is ignore the rushers, and enjoy the Game for yourself. Can't force anyone to take his time, can ya?

Lets really hope that when the whiners do hit the forums that the devs do not overreact and cause even more balance issues like WoW.

It wouldn't be any different than our having to look at who to listen to and who to ignore on the current official forums, as every-time  information is released you get people trying to make ripples in the pond with great concerns of how the game should change.

    completely agree with the OP

it is why i NEVER join groups in EQII - because i am playing to have fun - not to have to pick a particular path on the AA lines but to choose what i want to check out as far as a particular stat/spell is concerned

and the chat is filled with nothing but "what line should i choose if i am a so-and-so"

"where do i go for quest number 1323234?" - well if you would walk your character outside the main door of your current city it would probably slap you in the face - - - explore just a little bit even

    Agreed.

Though i still must say the "winners" are of much lower concentration in this game (pre-launch at least) then in most other games before pre launch.  I loved TLJ and it's sequal (STILL WAITING ON THE 3rd AHEM AHEM).  Thus i have high expectations from Funcom; i have a good feeling that they will live up to thier expectations.  I am sure they will keep thier game solid and simply play a small violyn for winners.

Sturm causes a tidal wave never mind a ripple!

I can't wait to get on an RP server, have a nice backstory all ready to go. Although not obligatory in my guild quite a few people do, do it, and are fans of immersion. I think its adds a further depth to the game and increases longevity. We seem to of got a few pen & paper guys and girls - I can't wait!

Different players enjoy the same game in different ways.  They create servers to cater to your preference.  I would think that by playing on a RP server, your problem is solved.  Am I wrong?

    In theory, yes.

As for reality, that is an entirely different matter.

My experience with RP servers is that they aren't sufficiently policed and that some types of players join these servers with the sole intention of ridiculing the roleplayers. So, in short, the playerbase don't respect the server categories, and in that situation RP'ers are the more fragile type of player, meaning that an immersive gaming experience, or "illusion" if you will, can easily be broken by bunnyjumping halflings spamming say binds on top of your party (Thank you, EQ). I actually had people come up and start to abuse me in tells because I was a Dark Elf Shadowknight, statistically inferior to the Ogre ditto...really now...

I can't say I have a practical solution to this problem other than trying to ignore aforementioned players, but the physical harassment can be quite offputting, and ultimately fatal to the gaming experience.

Athelan, maybe you has some input on this? Will FunCom take steps to insure the RP experience on those servers? I'm not talking about punishing people for casual out-of-character chat or anything that inane (oh, except typing with numbers instead of letters...that should carry an immediate death sentence...*ahem*...back to topic --> ), but rather the systematic abuse of people who like to roleplay.

    Maybe I'm just being paranoid?
