Patch Notes - July 11, 2007
The following changes will be made in the July 11 patch:
- Audio
- Shouts and cries are back by popular demand! Additionally, new shout and cry sound effects have been added for some races.
- The placeholder sound for blocking, parrying, critical hits, and a few other skill feedback sounds has been replaced with the proper sound effects.
- Helegrod
- The Spider now has greater reserves of his signature deadly poison, and a willingness to use it.
- The Angmarim and his Drake servitors are more dangerous now. The drakes are more likely to use their wing flap skills to send players flying away from them.
- The chest containing Drugoth's crown in Helegrod will no longer destroy itself if it is opened and then closed.
- Misc
- The generation ratio between Smithing and Precious ores has been restored to their pre-patch weightings of 3:1
- Guards located at the ressurection circles throughout the Ettenmoors will no longer be affected by fear.
- Fixed an issue with NPCs that were showing the pending quest ring and displaying a list of pending quests that had an invalid retry time.
- Captain: High tiers of Herald Armaments will now increase your Herald's ability to mitigate damage (they were doing the opposite before).
- Captain: Telling Mark will once again enable your Herald to use his skills.
- If you are defeated in the "The Thief-taker's Bane" you will no longer reappear where you were defeated. Instead you will be taken to a nearby defeat circle (rally point? whatever we call these in-game.)
- Added admin commands to free items stuck in Landroval's mail system
- Additional server-side maintenance

Good to see.
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
I missed my old shout, that new thing sounded like a air cannon or something ~dances a happy dance~ But as a explorer I was making a killing on the auction house with the ancient iron LOL

I had more to say on that but had to take care of some things lol. Yeah I had totally missed my yell as a captain. Everything else there looks really good too.

This isn't the monthly update ? its just a patch I hope ...
My, what an ironic statement. One would think that if they had listened, the items you mentioned would not have been removed or altered in the first place.

My but could you link to a thread to support that statement? umm didn't think so. How is it going by the way , you and EP find a game that suits you yet ?

Ahh how do u figure? Why would one have to listen if there was not a problem in the first place? Everything was good then they stuffed it,then people voiced there opinions, then things got fixed. It makes me wonder how one should have listened to something when at the time that something had nothing wrong with it.Am i making sense cause now i got my self confused lol.

I could list hundreds of instances where Turbine did not listen or failed to take into account the interests of their player base, two that immediately come to mind are forcing US and EU communities on separate servers, and refusing to offer a roleplay server (even though Codemaster offers one in the EU). EP and I are interested in several games, and are awaiting beta invites for a couple more. We are also in the discussion stages of developing our own game.

I can't wait to see your game, lawl.

You guys just need to go play UO, it is about as close to what you want that you will ever see I am afraid. Virtual worlds are kind of a niche these days, STO will not be any different.

You asked for specific instances where Turbine did not listen to their community, and then doubted I could come up with any. The two I offered concerned large populations of the community and are very unpopular. Oh, and they don't concern me specifically, as I already had quit playing the game. So much for trying to rationalize away Turbine's oblivious nature.
And you're right about UO. Amazing a game that was developed last century could so badly embarrass a new game when it comes to features and game mechanics. One would think that games would progress since the arrival of UO and EQ...sadly, they have not.

I dont care about your statements about turbine and lotro, but i agree with your theory about non progression of games.
Turbine is the most responsive company that I have seen so far. I believe they really do listen and, where it fits in with their overall vision and plan, the try to accomodate player feedback. I would not want to see them radically change how they see the development of the games forward progress.
Morothon (sp?) is correct that two very big player feedback requests were not accomodated that could have been: the European and American server separation, and they could have acknowledged the requests for an RP server. I don't see why they did not grant these things.
Also, in my own opinion, they did not do character creation and customization justice. I expected at least as many choices of hair and facial features as DDO, but it remains a very limited set of choices. I hope they plan to do more with this as time goes on.
I also feel they are somewhat stalled on developing their crafting system. They are still tweaking it at a basic level, but need to move it forward and make it more viable and interesting.
Those things aside, I play every day, I love the game, I think they have done a wonderful job of bringing Middle Earth to life. They relentlessly go after bugs, they constantly polish.
Actually, I think its this constant polishing that isnt really letting the game progress. They patch very little, and quite late, Evendim had a lot of untested and non-working stuff in it, so I am sort of sceptical if Turbine is just not competent with their own game yet, and it ll pass, or if they just keep taking the easy route (like with their game) of cutting as many corners as possible.
The crafting and the char customization are good examples of cut corners, and I dont quite understand how so many years of development result in so little stuff. Though what IS there is quite nice-looking, and while there are quite a few bugs, they mostly affect the level 50s, so a lot of players discard that.
In regard to the Euro/N American thing. Has anyone seen the contract with Codemasters? Didn't think so, my bet is there is a clause in there granting Codemasters pretty much an exclusive contract for European customers as far as sales and CS went.
In regard to the RP server. I was on Antonica from EQII release till I canceled last November. Never saw where having the initials RP made a shit one way or the other, however I can see where it would be CS nightmare every time some basement dweller saw something he or she felt was not in character. In Horizons once I was reported for a mis tell to a guildie that came out as a /say rather than in guild chat. My big offense was I had a at the end of my sentence.
Character customization is sort of a meh for me, I would have rather they find someone who can design helms decent head ware rather than put a slider in there for the length of my nose or whatever. This game has the ugliest helms and hats I have ever seen in a game. Which is really not much of a complaint going by the problems in some other games but still I think it is valid.
Just my 2 cents worth as usual

Release in April.
Huge content and new area added in June.
Roheryn preview server added to allow more feedback and testing before final release of content.
The game is progressing just amazingly.
1300+ quests at release and a huge area to explore doesn't seem like "so little stuff" by any stretch of the imagination. There are no huge empty areas of the land. Everything is properly in place, and has a purpose. Everything works, and fits together to make the storyline and the world itself seem very real and wondrous.
this game is doing wonderfully well, why else would all the schills be over here trolling it. I imagine it has put a severe hurt on some games populations. EQII was not doing all that well even back in November. I know most of my guild came over to LoTRO during closed and open beta and most stayed. A few of our WoW chapter has switched also.
Seems like Turbine is showing the rest of the developers how to do it right and that can only be a good thing for all the real fans of the genre in the long run.

Good grief Jack. I leave the forums for a month and a half or so to get lost in Middle Earth and you go and leave the back door here open to those few elitist oh-my-god-I-know-you-didn't-just-disagree-with-my-omnipotence folks on the pre-launch official forums to trickle in.
Anyway, glad to see you are still enjoying the game. I personally can't wait until player housing. Man, what I'd give to see the look on the faces of those naysayers now. I know it just burns them that LOTRO is doing well and they can't point at it like you can at Vanguard and yell "failure!".

Although i do like Vanguard but my PC don't lol.

Oh don't get me wrong, I was in VG beta and for a good while tried to convince my group of friends to go that route. The idea behind VG was awesome, IMO. I really liked what they had in mind. The implementation, however, was not what I would consider something for my tastes. I mean, when the game froze and dumped me while crossing a chunk line on a PC I just built that would price $5000+ on Alienware or Falcon Northwest over a verizon fios line, well, I guess the gaming gods just didn't want me there. They gaming gods DID know that Sigil would sell out to SOE, so I have to believe they were looking out for me.As I've said many times before on these forums in the past, I never get why people who don't like a game spend so much time on it's forums, especially now when things are pretty much set, bashing the game and trying to ruin the fun of others. I can only attribute it to selfishness in that if they can't have anything nice, they don't want others to. I mean, it's one thing to constructively post why you don't like a game, emphasizing that these are your personal reasons. Most posts, however, equate to "This games sucks and you are stupid if you like it cuz I said so". LOL. Whew, I miss grade school!!

Well in your absence, nothing has changed. This site is still full of haters no matter what game you look at. I think me and you exchanged the same comments about 6 months back. I don't visit here to much either. Its still my favorite site to goof off on at work but no one really has anything interesting to contribute other then "this game stinks" type garbage.I still have my LotR and its a pretty good game. I really don't have much to say about it. These forums are pretty pointless to even write about it. No sooner do you make a point then some other hero comes along and makes the same knothead comment. Remember the "world size" debate that got repeated over and over and over way back? Funny how that one finally disappeared once the game launched, thank god. Remember that knothead who said you could run across the entire game map from one end to the other in under 8 minutes?? LoL Its still the same unvarified, oppinionated sh*t being passed off as fact.
