so when you refer to the half lion half eagle mythical creature which spelling do you use.  griffen griffin or gryphon.

I dunno why but I always thought that any spelling other than Gryphon was incorrect. According to wikipedia though, griffin, griffon, and gryphon are all correct ways in spelling said mythical beast, not griffen though.

The Enecylopedia description of Griffen is "a species of wild tomato found in Africa"

And also it says a Griffin is : "Slang or Jargon for cumquats"

I always say gryphon. Not sure if that is the correct one, though

I always use Gryphon when I spell it out completely.  But, often times in a game I'll just shorten it to "Griff" because I am that lazy.

if you played EverQuest they used griffin, griffon, and griffawn

Well, the AD&D Monster manual has "griffon", case closed

I spelled it "griffin" - I think that's the way Merv spells it...

    To-may - to    To-mah-to  ...   Let's call the whole thing off

just because griffen isn't right doesn't mean people don't use it.

I grew up with it being spelled Griffon .. which is how its spelled in the old first addition D&D monsterous manual too (my first experience with the critters).. but from a visual perspective I think I prefer Gryphon these days. But they are really all good. :)
