A lot of folks moved to EVE, some to Jumpgate I think Darkspace may have picked up some subscribers too. EVE got the bull's share of the E&B refugees though since it's the most similar game to E&B out there.
Personally I'm still waiting for that "perfect" space MMO
C'mon folks... SOMEONE must wanna make "Privateer Online"
On a slightly more serious note I'm watching for the SWG Expansion to see what they do with 'spaceflight'. If they do it right I may finally go back to SWG.

Been playing enb here for about 1.5 years now on orion and a bit sad to see it go. Started playing FFXI but do not like the fact that I cannot solo with my drk past lvl 45. I like playing in parties but it a pain to log in and have to just sit there for 2+ hours waiting to get a group together so I guess I will be looking for a new game to. I loved Privateer and a online version would def. get my vote Also would like to see some MMORPG from Koei. Its not spaced based but I liked a old game called Inindo. Well, good luck to everyone in finding a new game.

Inindo was one of the best RPGs I have ever seen. Good story which tied into actual history, being able to sabotage warlord castles and aid in those monthly wars between the different clans.... Now that was innovative.

You guys might want to check out Vendetta Online, new space mmorpg in development, dunno if it's what you're looking for but it's indeed another option:

A Privateer Online, or perhaps something along the lines of Freelancer on-line would be a nice. While I really like EVE (my new home after Earth & Beyond), sometimes I miss the lighter, space opera game of E&B.
i played enb for about 1.2 years on orion i really loved it but once capping the game lost its feel of infinity. i moved to neocron after a bit of a shift but still a future based mmo good fun and the pvp gives it life past capping. a hybrid of the two gaves could have been great. shame about the click and fire pure stat based combat and the clone style character set ups. it could have been so much bigger.
E&B was not my cup of tea really (I quit around L120 or so). Now, I understand everyone going over to Eve (which I did enjoy playing until I reached endgame). If Eve is not your cup of tea, I would agree that Jumpgate is very much worth taking a look at. It is kind of the "hidden title" for people that actually want some real 3D flying with a joystick. I enjoyed the game for a while.

Hmm... I like EVE a lot, but I'll give jumpgate a try. I just think the graphics look a bit dated, like the earlier versions of Wing Commander or something, especially the particle effects look pretty bad. But of course, that doesn't make it a bad game. Sounds fun enough for sure.
Im playing Jumpgate now...Its pretty fun, but theres a lotta stuff from EnB Id like to see in it...The good thing is youre still flying from station to station and stuff but your actually flying...not just pressing the warp button and reading a book for ten minutes...I dunno if id play it longterm but its not a bad way to kill a few months...Players are friendly as heck to noobs...cant hurt to try rite!!!

Yepp,
Thats excactly what I am looking for and other people mentioned in this thread (PvP, real flight model etc.)
Ive tried to write this post 3 times now and its failed all 3 times! going on 4.. well see if it works, anyhow,
Veloxitymadog, lvl 150 Jenquai defender, galaxy orion, Super Uber
anyhow, some of these games look like play around games, but nothing looks as good as enb was, vendetta hasnt had their website updated in over 2 months, (it sais check back for new accounts in june.. its almost august)
anyhow, earth and beyond was a truly unique experience, combing great gameplay, an awesome variety of weapons and designs and devices, with an awesome variety of what to do, with a storyline you could dive in and become a part of, you could research it and actually figure out what is going to happen (head researcher here!) there is an enb "book" on the storyline if you wanna see the hidden peices, go to enbportal.com, then to forums, then to alien research, then to enb "book", then itll give you a link to a 15mb 550 page "book", allot of it is repeat though,
im trying to write the plot for my own mmorpg to get it used... so i can play it lol, becuase it would be awesome, but thats anohter story,
i would kill for another enb, thats pretty much what im waiting for, if you ever see me in eve, im getting really desperate, lol, but nothing coming out looks even halfway good... oh well life goes on
I was also saddened to learn of the demise of E&B. Had previously tried EQ, and was thoroughly underwelmed. This was the first MMORPG I've tried and really liked. Ah, well....no stopping the mighty EA (may they rot!).
Haven"t tried others yet but am waiting for Vendetta Online to come out. From the website and various dev interviews, etc., looks to be somewhere between Eve and E&B, but will have to see. Looked at Eve, but didn't relish the idea of dying once and having to redo the previous hours, days or weeks of effort just to get my ship & equipment back where they were. Should there be a price for dying? Sure, but that's a bit much. As PvP is a feature I have absolutely no interest in, it looks as if Vendetta may be a better fit to my gaming preferences....just have to see.
I adore EnB. I tried the free trial for Eve, but it's such a different game. EnB had so much more in the way of exploration and discovery. Eve has a really sophisticated economic model, but I didn't like the combat at all, I found it no where near as fun as EnB. Prospecting in EnB was way more fun, too.
I'm downright furious at EA over this. EnB was the best game to come along in a long time, and they had to sink their fangs into it and ruin it. None of these other space mmorpgs look that great to me. I've heard alot about the game being bought by another party, but with EA so stone set to not sell the license I doubt it. I think EA bought Westwood just to shut them down, and cutthroat business sense seems to agree.
I played E&B on Orion for over 2 years, had some great times, and met some amazing friends there. Most of us tried out EVE when we decided to leave, but for most of us, EVE was not what we were looking for. Many of us are in City of Heroes now, and having a great time there!
I am planning to at least check out Vendetta Online, it seems interesting.
