Google MMO Forthcoming?

Google Earth + Google SketchUp + dark fiber + massive datacenters + Google CheckOut = future MMO (like Second Life)

(Google SketchUp is like a CAD program to create buildings in Google Earth.)

You heard it hear first.

Google will kill WOW.

    Eventually, some non-game company will make a sand box virtual world where the users can create anything they want.  They can make their own content in their own rented space of the virtual world.  It will become the myspace of virtual worlds.  It is just a matter of time till someone does this and it will take over the internet.  Instead of typing URLs into a webbrowser, we will have a 3D client that you litterally travel in a graphical world that represents the internet.  It is just a matter of time.

     

    Yes, I read too much cyberpunk.  But it is good stuff.

    It would not surprise me if something very like this happened.

    After all, 10-12 years ago if someone had proposed a 3D online graphical RPG, most people would've said he was nuts because "there isn't enough bandwidth." Now, for 3D MMOs, bandwidth is often the least of their problems.

    Yes, I read too much cyberpunk.  But it is good stuff.
    They already are making it here. Its called Metaplace but whether or not it will be any good remains to be seen but it does look interesting to say the least.

    You forgot the part where they record every action and thing you say in-game as well as scan your harddrives and store all the information somewhere in their datacenters "for your own good" and so they can sell advertising to you based on what they mine.

    if they had a good scripting system, or they used java for the scripting I'd totally mess around in it.

    I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
