What's the fighting system going to be like in this game? Will it be real time? I'm assuming no, but it's hard to tell with the vids and all the talk about arial combat and what not.
Yes, it will be real time (from what I can see in videos) in the sense that you will always be able to move around and chose exactly what spell to use whenever you want to. It won't be really twitch-based however. Much like in Lineage II and WoW.
Well, that's what I can make out of it, at least. :P Oh, and there are combo systems where you can sort of weave skill-combinations with other party members.
I've seen some people use real-time wrongly. And I think it's from the AOC developers... I love how they twisted the definition... They said something like "True real-time combat". In reality, it's just twitch combat for AOC. Most mmorpgs are real-time; in fact, probably 90%+ mmorpgs are real-time...(ex: WoW, WAR, COX, EVE, GW, etc...)
Yes, Aion is real-time...
The combat has been described as similar to GW (although I can see it's quite different in execution)... Basically, it's a skill based system, where using a skill may open up a new skill as a follow-up combo, which may open up another skill, and so on and so forth... The information can be found from various fansites, but I don't remember exactly which one I read from...
I'm sorry, I should have used the term correctly what I meant was would it be where you have all your skills infront of you on screen and you pick and choose them while your character swings his sword, or would it be where if you hit one button your character would swing his sword , hit another button he casts a spell etc. Heh, I'm not terribly good with gaming lingo as you can tell.
I'm not 100% sure on this...err I'll have to get back to u on this tomorrow, cause I gotta go soon...unless someone else answers...
I think there's autoattack though, but I'm not sure...However, It does seem like the focus is very much on using the skills, from the multiple video I've seen...
To answer the question... when you target and "engage" an enemy you will auto attack. You will only be required to activate special skills such as spells and weapons skills. Your character does the rest. You have the ability to move around and jump at your command though.

(This is a video of a priest. It shows auto-attack, but all the videos I've seen show them using skills alot, as you can see in this video...)
