I have followed VG for a long time (since before it was released) and I was, like many of us, caught up in the hype and preordered and thus I have my own copy laying here next to me at this very moment.
Thing is, I have never played it! 
Why ? Because you guys told me there was no use trying to play it. And the computer I had when the game went live was... well even WoW made it crash from time to time.
BUT, here I am with my new computer and nothing to do so... yeah I'm installing VG right now 
During the installation (lots of downloading) I've been lurking around these forums as I use to do every now and then. I've had a few chuckles reading some of the posts. And then I just felt like I had to sign up and make a post about my trip into VG.
Right now, I have no idea what to excpect from the game... I'm not hoping for anything I just want to actually play it since I've bought it.
Anyways, welcome me to the forums and I will post back here when I've spent some time in game!

yeah i've been reading this site awhile now and i've learned not to believe 99.9999% of the crap posted by the swarms of haters. I went and ordered Vanguard the other day it should be here within the next few days.A friend of mine bought the game since he's on station pass was having problems with something with the text or something so he quit playing but then went back after that last patch on the 5th or when ever that was and the problem is gone and is having fun at it. now.
I think you will like Vanguard. Anyone who appreciates a HUGE and VAST fantasy world will like it.
You might not like end-game, and you might not like PvP. You should enjoy a lot of aspects of Vanguard. I honestly think there are brilliant aspects to Vanguard: class system. world system. quest content. diplomacy. Many others too.
Edit: btw, fair edit perhaps, I am in SWG, in a catina, just hanging out and afk. Heh. I like SWG. Cool game.

I neither play WoW nor eat fast food.
I too want to order it and play as I heard a while back it kind of was next gen DAOC. Now, of course, I dont believe everything I hear but, I do like what I hear about crafting and stuff. I hate that it was released before it was done but, a lot of games have had that happen...hopefully sony has turned it around because all the hype that I heard about it....just hate to see it die this early...

So the real question isn't will he like Vanguard or will it even run on his notebook (I have reservations when people want to run games on laptops), the real question is will he become a hater or Vanbois?
I say hater due to CTDs and low fps with a little low population thrown in, he'll say it wasn't for him and give his opinion and the Vanbois will eat him for breakfast and brand him a hater after twelve lashes.

Listen man, there are no CDTs anymore since 7/5 patch. Some say they still crash, but i dont have any on a medicore system (3500+, 2 gig memory, x1900gt, win2k) I also dont see others crash when grouping with them. Vanguard has a lot of flaws, but there are ***NO*** CDTs anymore. You can ride your horse from south-west Qualia to north-east Qualia and back and forth for 8 hours and you wont crash.
It doesnt help you, the people who read here or the game if you people keep denying that the DEVs are on their toes and actually fix this game.

That sounds good, you see my main source of info on Vanguard canceled a month or so back. He was the same guy that tried to convince me and my girlfriend to sign up for Dark and Light, until he tried out the "Settlers of Garneth" (not sure about the spelling there). He soon changed his ming then became a rabid Vanbois a month or so later, he tried to get me to pre-order Vanguard and had already convinced a few others that it would be the replacement for SWG. Even with SOE publishing it he went ahead and bought it, but I refused despite my girlfriend nagging me about it.
Well the last comment he made about the game a month or so ago was "It isn't Vanguard, it's just Vandead!". He was very unhappy at the amount of cash he'd thrown away, he could've lived with the bugs and issues but the fact was there was no-one else to play with. I think anyone who has played an MMORPG before will notice the lack of population and not sub at the end of the month. It doesn't matter how good the game is, if there's no-one to play with why pay?

This is a bit more complex. It is true that a lot people left or are in standby-mode. Population could be much better. Its complex. There are those who play with guild/friends only. They use vent/TS and you never read them in any channel. Those people are outside of the community. Then there is this silly barrier between the so called "eq nerds" and the others. Those people have a different view on the game and cant play together. Yeah, sounds stupid, but Telon is huge and attracted a lot of different people. There are EQ, EQ2, EvE and WoW veterans and everyone is used to a different playstyle.
And there are different spots to group. Thestra and Qualia offer nice areas for the mid levels. And some swear that Thestra rules and others want to do HL quests in Qualia. Hehe, its really weird somedays...
But the game is not as empty as some say.
Anyhow, the game needs the server merge and more players in the longer run. I agree with you. We will see what the free trial will do.

Be careful here on the No CTD thing. MOST no longer have them, but if you are running an 8800 vid card OR have more than 2 GB of Ram then you will still have the CTD issue, and it could even be worse than it was before.
As far as everyone outside those specs...CTD has been reduced SIGNIFICANTLY!
