Is it really going to be a battle? WoW vs. WAR

PkhBaskoPkhBasko Member UncommonPosts: 59

Is this really going to turn out like everyone says it will...are people willing to sacrifice all that time and effort they put into WoW just to play WAR, or will WAR really be that good?

I've done alot of reading up on WAR and it looks to me like WoW and WAR have alot of the same ideas they both have there differences but will that make one prevail over the other?

Some say WAR PvP will not be good. Others disagreee...

Some say WoW PvP is no good. Others disagree...

Some say WAR questing ideas are tremendous...Others disagree...

Some say WoW questing is pretty good...Others disagree....

Will WAR's classes be equal...or Not?

Will WoW survive the batte?

Will there even be the battle that we think there will be?

I think we will find out when WAR is released...until then...We can only hope...

At the moment i voted for WAR, simply because WoW's PvP is just plain crap. I hated BG's and they were only originally brought into play because of the PvE servers. They stated this would not be the PvP route on the PvP servers. Then what happens, BG's become the big thing and is the, THE, only PvP route.

If you happened to go hunting on the world map, you would be called lamer, griefer, and alot of other stuff. Hell players actually logged out to log in ther other account toon just to tell you what they thought of you. Simply saying that WoW for its PvP has indeed lost its way.

Now i am not saying anything that WAR has to offer will be good, the whole game could be total pants (havign not seen and tested/played a thing of it) what does intrigue me is the way they have put things down on paper (or in reviews in this case). However its the released product that will eventually tell you yes or no.

I have seen little clips of the game on one of those gamers TV shows on sky, the toons do tend to look WoW'ish. But who knows what the game will be like at this stage. I am hoping to hit a beta phase for this one, i didnt for WoW, i signed up too late (i think) but took the plunge on it, something i doubt i will be doing again after VG. This is just one of four games i am currently watching, two of which have succumbed to having an SoE tag on them now, which has made me think more than twice fold if i would get them. I would if i was in a beta for them, and saw how the game played, otherwise its going to be 1-2 months after release that i may venture to purchase them (if the feedback and word of mouth fits). These 2 in question are PotBS and GaHRR. The other 2 games i am watching are W.A.R and AoC.

I don't get it. Do NWN2 and Oblivion battle each other? Both are good games in their own right. I guess I just don't get the whole fanboi thing. I like all good games. I just hate the bad ones.

WoW: The pvp is an abomination.  No further comments needed.

WAR: PvP sounds great, but the more i read and hear about it, i become more skeptical.  (especially hearing about instanced scenarios)

Who gives a damn about PvP? I know I don't and the majority of WoW players don't seem bothered about it either. If Warhammer has great PvP, all I can say is... big deal.

Expecting a niche idea like that to give Warhammer the edge on WoW is just crazy. Lots of people call out for player housing in WoW, yet they don't desert it and play Guildwars just because it has player housing and WoW doesn't.

Why do so many people get their panties in a bunch over which game will "beat" another game?

Just play the friggin things and enjoy em!!

i dont really consider most WoW players to be mmorpg fans, jsut WoW fans... if WAR is another "casual" MMORPG, then it looks like it might give it some competition, but if its a real MMORPG, then i dont think it will

I find it hard to compare them.

WoW is a few years old now, and WAR, like many MMO's going today, look alot like it.

I think WoW will eventually lose but WAR will not beat the numbers that WoW had during its peak.

Neither will win or lose, they aren't really going to impact each other, If 500k or even 1 million people move from WoW to WAR they will both be strong games.  WoW will be strong because it has the numbers to lose a million subs and not worry about it.  WAR will be strong because 500+ subs is considered a good number in an MMO.

    I agree with above post.

And lets stop bashing games before they are even out and lets hope more games can make some kinda succes to keep em making new and better ones mmmk.

Depends on what type of anti-exploiting/3rd party/transaction of in game goods measures each game undertakes. WoW, its quite obvious people buy their way to the top, so it should balance the ppl who look at it like a business within a service game.

If WAR manages to appeals to PvE players, it won't be a battle, it would take over.

If they don't (as they are currently heading for), won't be a battle either, they won't take over.

Personally this topic is ridiculous. Post this stuff when beta comes out. Quit putting thought into it. Its a waste of brain capacity. You are burning your brain cells trying to conclude this theory. Just stfu about WAR vs WoW threads... just for a few months. Its completely ridiculous , and a waste of forum space. Thank you have a great day!

WAR should have plenty of success.  Not as much as WOW but success none the less.  WOW will go on for as long as Blizzard wants it to.  If UO or AC can still fill servers with a few thousand people, what makes anyone think WOW won't do the same?

Mythic and many others should be glad Blizzard brought all these new people into the genre because WAR certainly isn't the game to attract NON-MMORPG fans.   Mythic will benefit greatly from those who never even considered the genre before, which is great.  All is good in MMORPG land, except for the nerds who don't want anyone playing except diehard geeks like themselves.  You know who you are=)

    I like this guys answer.

PVP in itself is its own genre, there are alot of FPS gamers that Want the rich world that a MMO offers but MMOs always lack the bloodthirsty gank caranage that FPS gamers like, stuff like silly rules get in the way.

I myself think there is ALOT of people jumping to there own conclusions and getting Ideas in there heads about what WAR is, and there blinded at the fact the main appeal is its something not WOW, and that is a set up for ALOT of people to be really mad when they Have "there own Ideas" of what WAR is suppose to be.

We really wont know till day 1 live, TBH as all MMO's we wont really know till 3 + months into WAR being Live.Time will Tell, what people are forgetting is most who "hate wow" hate the fact there are rules and there is no god mode I win button Age of Conan looks more like a griefer Game , wanna be Halo with a hack'N slash skin on it.

If anything Gods & Heroes has the highest chance at success cause it seems more geared to RPG and Solo PVE stuff which is what makes WOW  such a success, the fact you can play and be top player with out that Huge hardcore guild, or the fact you can walk outside town and not have 15 stealth level 70's hit you and jump arround yelling PWNZORD or what ever the anti-social basement mushroom leet kiddes saying is for the month.

    Clue!

Games are to have fun, Massive multi-player Online role Playing Games are ment to have fun with lots of people. Seems many are forgetting the real point. you want open warfare, twicth fast PVP.. its called counterstrike, or wolfenstien. GO PLAY IT and stop begging for RPG games to be ALL about PVP.

You have no idea what your talking about.

It sounds you never even played on a PVP server and just talking trash.

I think WOW is the best mmorpg on the market right now, I think the PvE is awesome,  but the PvP is just not up to par for me, arenas and instanced BG's isn't my thing, I want epic battles, sacking the enemy's city, that's why I want to play WAR.

  • Narcin1Narcin1 Member Posts: 145

you cant compare the two. People have been playing WoW for 3 or so years and War will be a brand new game. Im not sure, but Im thinking wars popularity will end about the same time as WoW. the people who do change to War will probably do it just because they've played WoW for to long and want something different. You'll have to give war time to catch up. it isn't going to be BOOM 8 million players, Ill garantee that.

    Argh

Let me grab this dead horse and beat it...

WAR, AoC, and any number of new games that will be hitting soon will attract new players...because they are NEW games.

WoW is an hugely popular game, but just because there are new games on the horizon does not mean it will go the way of the dodo.

People still play UO and EQ, even Meridian 59, and those games have some miles under their belts. People will play what people like, all this speculation is plain goofy...

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Yea...pretty much sums it up right there.

I don't care for WoW anymore, hope WAR appeals to what I'm looking for. If not, they can BOTH burn in a fire.  Figuratively speaking of course. There is no win or lose if you are only out for yourself.

    Clever things.

  • daelnordaelnor Member UncommonPosts: 1,556

You can't really compare these two games..other than having similar graphics styles..they are nothing alike.

WoW is a big first timer mmo gamers lets go raid game...

WAR will be more pvp centric, set on large scale battles with other players etc. and so on.

two completely different games. The only reason WAR will take some subs from WoW is because people are bored of WoW, not because WAR is just like WoW but better.

WoW will be around for a long time, its not going anywhere.

These threads pop up every time a new game comes out, the only exception is that instead of "which new game will bury EQ" its "which new game will bury WoW"

The bottom line is..WoW will bury itself with its endless raids of nothingness eventually..but no game is gonna do it single handedly.
