I don't know what the sub numbers are, but I've just re-upped my subscription this week. My first day on, I was still getting used to playing after not for about a year, when a lvl 155 attacked me in town. To my surprise (and his) I still remembered how to pk. 8p
I've seen quite a few others on Darktide, and considering the size of the map that's not too bad. Even in it's hey-day several years ago, I didn't see many more people than what I've seen so far. (except durring town raids of course)
I do need to find out what the message that keeps coming over stating something about Cragstone getting attacked by (can't remember if it was Drudges, or some other creature) is all about. I just know I'll get the go back to ff no0b message if I ask. I'm also pretty sure if I go investigate it first hand that it's just a perfect ambush site for drop gankers.
AC gave us unparalleled character customization and a level cap that couldn't be reached in a few short weeks (like most games that have come out in the last few years...heh). If they redid it, I'd buy it, no question about that, but I think developers nowadays need to look back at what made this genre great, the old games, where you could be unique, where your 'skill' mattered. We don't want to be shoved into cookie cutter classes and restricted every way we turn. We don't want to deliver mail for NPCs.
Gaming? That's not gaming! That's just people sat 'round in costumes drinking...

Do yourself a BIG favor and give up NOW on "Darkfall".
This is a game that was supposed to be released in the fall of 2003. There is still no promise of a release date and no promising information that would make one think that this game will ever see the light of day. ...And even IF it did ever release, I'd put money that it would go much the same way as "Dark and Light".
Asherons Call was/is soooo awesome. Only wish it had a few more players these days and that they'd make a few fresh servers including a new Darktide all PvP type of server.
I don't remember if I posted here or not, but I'll say it again. I agree that they should drop the "Asheron's Call" name. I believe the next game should be called "Call of Dereth" or "Call to Aubern." It keeps part of the name, so the fans will recognize it, but is different enough to fool everyone else.
Unless I'm a fan of a game, I usually won't even play anything with 2 (II), 3 (III), etc., in the name. I figure there's a reason I didn't play the first one, and I don't want to be so far behind those who played since the first one.
Originally posted by Torak Minus expenses - staff, equipment, facilities and other overhead, that number is gross revenues not profit. Even though AC may be free and clear of its development cost, its not free to run at no cost. That not a whole lot of money in business terms. Not much at all.
No where did I say it was profit nor did I say it was free to run. kthx
Part of the current storyline involves the drudge attacking Cragstone and "Bonecrunch" has built an enormous wooden fort about 2 clicks from Cragstone and the ques to defeat him is an Epic one... very similar to the Epic Colosseum quest, with the amazing triple ward ring prize at the end. The drudges in Cragstone will range from level 7 to 70, if I remember correctly.
Someone suggested to change the Combat System.... that's the WORST idea ever. The AC2 and LoTRO combat systems are near exact clones of the WoW combat system... those are sooooooooooooo mundane and skillless. For Example... here comes a monster... lemme attack it 5, 6, 7, 2, 1.... oh, that didn't kill it, lemme try more 5, 6, 7, 2 1.... every combat encounter is nearly the same, (5-range attack, 6-slowe movement spell, 7 - instant damage spell, 2-root spell, 1- blink/teleport to safe distance.then repeat). AC is so much better than that... you have the option to attack low, mid, or hig, looking to find a weaker armor... you also have 7 damage types to pick from (acid, ice, lightning, fire, slash, pierce, bludge). Also, is the oppoent has a shield.. then you try to attack the person from behind so the shield doesn't factor into the damage. My favorite feature is the ability to dodge arrows & magic war bolts... using walls, rocks, trees, and sharp turns... this factors in your personal ability and decision making to make your character more lethal in battle. I despise those other games where you just stand and mash the number buttons in teh same sequence over and over.
Lastly, the server populations have been up the past few months. Darktide has been back over 500 during peak... and 300 - 350 during off peak times. I thinkthe LoTRO release and the new focus on PVP games (like Warhammer, Age of Conan, and Vanguard), has lead to new players checking out Asheron's Call.

AC2 combat a clone of WoW combat? Now i've heard that too....
How can you compare AC2 combat with Lotro combat? Only thing they have in common are skills lined up from 1-12 on your hotbar, and which games hasnt that feature? In AC2 - shield doesnt protect your back, you can strafe arrows, spells and alike. it is much faster, every class/character has self vigor & health heal, you can autofollow your target, no stealth classes & healing hasnt 100% aggro certainty (if it had any at all in AC2). Probably alot more differs the two, but these are those that came to mind.
AC2 has very little in commen with the combat in Lotro - any former AC2 player will tell you that. Actually, i find AC1 combat more AC2 alike than Lotro, but that might just be you are able to strafe in both games.
