Hi everyone, i don't know if anyone has encountered with this problem, so i created this thread. Sorry if it's a repeat thread. Anyways, my computer is windows vista and i swear i just wanna smash my damn cpu just because vista messes up every single game i ever played. so far i tried to play 5 or so games on this computer and none of them work. Ex: flyff(fly for fun) , after 5 minutes into the game, the screen starts shaking, after 20 more minutes the whole screen became pitch black, i was only able to see my character and some nearby monsters. This is really frustrating . Can anyone tell me wat games out there are compatible with Vista? plz and thank you

Haven't had a single problem with any games I've tried since getting Vista.
Off the top of my head, the games i've got installed and played are Wow, LOTRO, GW, AA, CoX.
Some single player games: Halo 1/2, starcraft, nvn2, titan quest, FEAR, HL2.
The game you mention sounds like one of the half-assed f2p games which well, probably isn't the most stable.
I am sure you know this already but just to make sure ... when you run games in Windows Vista make sure to right click the games icon and run as administrator. Don't bother checking the box that says always run as admin under properties .. it doesn't work (that comes from a microsoft windows support guy). Otherwise windows vista's psychotic security will eventually cause the program to destabilize and possibly crash. I also recommend disabling your UAC unless your REALLY paranoid about security. Just run a google search for how to do that ..theres a 100 sites out there that can walk you through it better then me. Some other things you can do is disable themes and desktop composition under the programs properties also. These are notorious for causing conflicts in Vista.

Well I just built my new PC and man am I glad I chose Windows XP instead of Vista. In my opinion Windows Vista is worse than Windows ME. If I were you I would wipe your drive clean and put a fresh copy of windows xp on it and save yourself all the hassle.
My husband bought a new PC laptop for gaming recently and found that several games he wanted to play were buggered up on Vista. He couldn't be arsed to fuss with it so he just picked up a copy of XP instead.
Doesn't Vista take up a lot of your idle RAM just to run the OS?
I heard that somewhere. I'm not a computer nut, so forgive me if I'm not using the right terminology. (although I did build all of my computers from scratch!)
I'll stick with the tried-and-true XP! (this is the queue for the computer elitist wannabes to say reply saying something about Linux... whatever)

Hi everyone, thx for replying. I actually tried to wipe out my whole driver to install XP, as i heard some people did that successfully. but when i try to do that Vista didnt get wiped out and i instead get all my files deleted. (i mighta did it wrong). Anyways im gonna try out that trick with the turning UAC off or try to "run as administrator" and see how it works out. If not im gonna play some other games then. Btw do CoH and CoV work with vista?
You might also want to try right clicking the icon of the game and clicking on properties. then select the compatibility tab and select the button that says "Run this program in compatability mode for:"
Default is XP service pack 2.
All games I play run fine with vista. Only time I ever had trouble was with Vanguard but that is cause the games coding sucks and another time with gametap but they support vista some now depending on your graphics card.
Nothing wrong with running games in Vista, i have encountered no problems thus far with many online and offline games.
Just make sure you do two things if they dont work.
1. As previously mentioned right click and select run as administrator to launch the game.
2. Right click - select properties - Select Compatibility tab at the top - then check the box maked "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" (Windows XP SP2 should be in the drop down menu)
I have no problems running games on vista 64 in either normal or "run as admin". The only time I use "run as admin" i during installations and patching.
Have you got 2gig ram or more? You definitely need that amount to run games on vista properly.

I'm not really having any problems running games on Vista at all. Just make sure you have the latest hardware drivers and game patches.
1. Run 32 bit. 64 bit just isn’t worth it for gaming at the moment.
2. Have 2 gb of ram.
3. Update your graphics driver.
4. Get a sound card. (This helps – trust me).
You should have no problems.
it takes 500 MB just to have vista idle on your computer.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
I managed to get a copy of Vista from work, being a Vista sceptisist I installed it for kicks and giggles. I was infact extremely surprised, while Vista has its problems, namely getting games to work specially if they are modded, I find myself enjoying its aesthetics and stability. When it comes to games ive not had a noticable difference in FPS, while there are a few older games I struggled to get running, however there isnt a game yet ive failed to start. There are tons of forums about with many solutions
Ive been using it for a month and theres no way ill go back to XP. For any new Vista user, it helps to be IT savvy and be able to find your own solutions. Vista needs patience, the current games were not designed for Vista, therefore they are not coded to resolve issues that might arise, new games however, will be different. Also as improved drivers hit the scene it will make life much easier.
As for the Gadgets? They're a load of crap imo, I ditched that side bar asap and the security features are history as far as im concerned. BAD WINDOWS, MY RESOURCES!

Yeah, I know. It's funny that Tiny XP only takes about 64 MB of ram to operate (barely), where as XP takes about 512 MB to operate (barely). And Vista... that 500 MB to operate (barely). I think the boys at Redmond(sp?) need to learn: bigger is not always better.

post your computer specs. I'd be willing to bet my life savings that you are running vista on an underspec computer. 99% of compatibility issues are that simple.

don't forget that Vista takes idle memory for caching. It might look like it needs 500mb just to run but it's actually considerably less.

Mine actually used just about 1 gig idle. So I loading up a bunch of programs and it was still using 1 gig. So there’s defiantly some caching going on.
Vista is terrible for games, I would buy XP right now and install it, I run xp and I've never had a problem running any game -ever-. I can't recommend anything. The only thing I can say is that some of the bigger games such as Lineage 2 and World of Warcraft probably have full Vista support.
I haven't had a single problem with vista on my new laptop but i wouldn't dare try and upgrade my desktop to it. I also haven't had any problems with CoX on it either. It is probably a video driver issue or something stupid like that.
Just my 2 cents.
I never upgrade to a new version of an OS until at least 3 years has passed.
Once Vista comes out with SP 2, then I may buy it....but until then...pfft.
I'm not really clear on what you tried to do here, but the correct procedure to install on Operating System would be to (re-)format the entire hard drive first. And then do a clean install of XP. You can sometimes do an 'upgrade' without re-formatting the drive (if the version of Windows you buy is designed for that), but with downgrading an OS - installing over the top is not going to work.
only problems I've had are
1. despite what i try and try to fix, sometimes the GameTap emulation doesn't work right on Vista so, some games don't work or are glitchy...hasn't happened a lot and most problems were fixed
2. Vista has this regular "must crash at least 20 times a day and i crash when you go to a site that might have spyware or a virus before SpySweeper can do its job" attitude
3. some games crash once or twice or have trouble getting going when newly installed, otherwise, never had problems with games
4. the only MMO problems I've had are the ones that don't have really recent versions of GameGuard...the older ones cause a security issue with Vista's genuinity...
5. Vista doesn't like RoboForm...get over it
Check out the MUD I'm making!
Fixing 1, 2, and 3 in a few easy steps..
Step 1: Open your start menu and run msconfig. Under tools scroll down till you see disable UAC .. click on it and hit launch. Restart your computer. UAC = User Account Control. Its the part of Vista that does all those stupid security pop ups. Note this does make your computer slightly less secure but if your behind a router or a good firewall its sooo not needed. Even though you can do this in Security center also .. it doesn't actually shut down if you do.. must be done via msconfig.
Step 2: Right click the icon for the program and select properties ..especially games .. you want to click the following Disable Visual Themes and Disable Desktop Composition. Both these are known to cause games to crash under Vista or just run crappy. (essentially you are disabling all the pretty crap thats constantly updating on your desktop in the background).
Step 3: Whenever you run a game make sure to right click and choose 'Run as Administrator'. This must be done even if your an admin, even if you have UAC disabled and even if you checked the box that says always run as administrator (cause that doesn't work per a microsoft tech support session of mine). This will prevent windows from running any security checks and make the game run ALOT more stable.
Do all these and you will have absolutely no problem running 98% of games under Vista. The only of my fairly extensive game collection I still cant get to run without crashing in Vista (Much to my regret) is Bet on Soldier. Everything else runs super smooth.
