Vanguard, come on guys dont give up the hope yet

I think SOE can do it, lets not forget many of our big named mmorpgs had very bad launchs, EQ2 launch was unholy, WoWs launch was very bad, remember all the bugs, looting bugs, disconnects, and lets not forget for a long time the only raid then was molten core and onyxia. Yes VG may have had a extremely bad launch but its nothing that hasnt happened before. When SOE gets the ball rolling soon almost any computer can play VG, currently i have a very crappy computer and i have a much better FPS now then ever before with VG. with the merging the populations on servers will be better and with their new trial of the isle comming it will only help the game more.

Also WoW needed server merges a long time ago itsself, WoW has always had many many low pop servers ghostland servers that they still refuse to merge today due to tooo much pride. Yes SOEs involvement with SWG was a bad one but lets not forget lucas arts had a major role in it too. I think in the end vanguard will end up to be the true successor to pre luclin EQ1 type gameplay and many people will enjoy it over timeand hopefully i will be one of those people.

after i play warhammer online if i dont like it i will reconsider going back to vanguard if it is still alive i didn't think it was a bad game but there was no one to play with couldnt find a group for anything was kinda lame, but the game itself is pretty good

I enjoy Vanguard. It has a future.  It needs to merge the servers and then add more end-game content.  After that, I believe it will be the best MMO out there.

The problem is that Brad McQuaid et al did something pretty unforgivable: launch a sub-standard and broken product, after deceiving and blatantly over-promising to those that had looked forward to this MMO. Customers will put up with a bit for the sake of a good product, but when you are treated with contempt, you leave pretty quickly. Hence the current dismal subscriptions, and emptiness of the servers. Sigil got what they deserve. I'm just annoyed I fell for the hype.
Oh and for anyone who is undecided - don't purchase Vanguard. You're promoting beta products being released as a retail product.

No one should purchase VG now but wait for the demo then decide.

Your optimisim is creditable, but Vanguard is a failed MMO, and with all the new ones coming out, there is no chance it will be resuscitated.

Vanguard hasnt failed yet, AOC/WAR are the only two real big named MMOS comming out SOON and they are possibily still another year off. AOC and especcially WAR are nothing but PVP mmos with a touch of PVE. VG is the only game out there thats different. I know it feels like a EQ2/WoW clone but it is not  VG isnt dead yet, the same could of been said about EQ2 2-3 yrs ago.

    ...come on...

Vanguard is gonna be ok, SOE is taking care of it and regardless of all the anti-SOE tripe that is rampant on these forums, the game should be alright...

Notice I said SHOULD, we shall see...

As bad as the "release" was, since SOE took over the game has improved dramatically...

Give it a chance...might just be your new fix...

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Exactly SOE taking over VG is like blizzard taking over dark and light, it can only get better.

I will not pay 50 bucks then 15 dollars a month for an un finished bug riddled rushed game that needs a full year with full dev team to polish up good enough to be released.

with SOE at the helm, this goes double !

UO was released too early.... so I didn't play it.  SWG was released too early, so i didn't play it.  Shadowbane was released too early...but I played it... much to my regret....  VG I gave a chance as well...also more regrets.....

No, only way I'll play is if they give me my first month back over.... (since I feel robbed the first time around).... I'm not going start on a trial island, I want my character just the way he was....on the Team PVP server....

oh wait...that's never going to happen....

I think it is silly to compare the WoW launch with Vanguard in any respect, but I have only one word for you when it comes to people saying a game is dead just because it has a small playerbase. Jumpgate.

If people really love the game, and keep playing it, SOE will keep the servers alive. If enough people keep playing it to merit it after a year or so, they will continue to develop things for it. SOE isn't perfect, but they do add more content than say...Blizzard, who has the biggest playerbase.

NCSoft did decide to can Auto Assault, but that was in even worse shape, and NCSoft is not the company to take the chances on a sinking ship. They drop it before they loose too much on it and put those people to work on a game that isn't out yet.

Both fiscal plans come out in the wash, but NCSoft has more solid developing. So if you like the game, keep playing it, because your subscription is the only thing that will tell SOE to do anything with it besides keep the servers live.

One of the major reasons vanguard failed was because of preformance not many computers could run VG on even a low-balance setting all that is changed now though. I never trusted EQ2 had that many subs, the game came out like VG, it was only playable for people with very high computers, the game was just horrible all around back then and it went up against WoW in its prime.

Besides Team PVP on vanguard is a bad idea currently they said they would bring back team PVP when the population grows, currently you can not split up the player base even more then it already is, i dont know how many people just cant understand that.

WOW's launch bad??? ok. server stability was bad for a bit but hardly any bugs, game play issues..did you actually play it at release?

not trying to troll but this is untrue - plain and simple.

another reason it failed was that it simply wasnt that spectacular. A great game with an incredible world I might put up with crap with longer, but this game was uninspiring to say the least. The world was...blah. Compare it to EQ a game now going on ten years old that blows it out of the water on interesting zones/environments.

Forget Braid McQuaid and any hype. It's all sell the sizzle marketing. Try it when you can and see if you enjoy the game. Life is too short to hold all the venom and hatred toward of all things a game. That not only goes for Vanguard, but SWG and any other thing that people seethe over.

I was a Vanguard fanboy, and I hung on even after launch for quite a while.  That said, I dont really believe there is much hope for the game.  Its really not a bad game like the OP said.... but....

I think the system requirements are going to be the death of it.  Even if they do get it fixed up and playing like it should the bad press at launch combined with the fact that it looks and runs like crap on most gamers machines will do it in.  I'm not saying its going to die completely in the very near future, just that its not likely going to recover like EQ did.... a recovery on the scale of SWG with the NGE.. possible.

My machine will still be well above average in two years... its very high end right now, and even on it Vanguard doesnt run terribly well.  I get high FPS.. in the 50's mostly, but it still hitches and lacks FSAA.... just doesnt look and play like it should.  I have two good machines and the same is true on both even thogh the specs are totally different (one is AMD and ATI, the other is Pentium and Nvidia).

The game is fairly good as far as content... that much is true.  As far as comparing it to the EQ2 episode... nowhere near the same thing really.  EQ2 required an above average computer but ran well and looked good on lower settings on many machines.  Vanguard runs terribly and looks even worse on an average machine.  It looks good but runs less then perfect on a high end machine.  EQ needed mostly content fixes, and those are always possible...   fixing the way a game runs is not always possible without recoding the entire game.

the whole hatred thing towards SoE is being over exaggerated. Bottom line is, it has less to do with some adolescent grudge than an simply not wanting to do business with a company that has a very bad rep with its customer service. I have been playing SOE games since 1999, with the last being EQ 2 and the CS sucks.

I had a terrible time on WoW's launch, sometimes I couldn't loot...my body would freeze during looting...it would freeze other times despite the game running fluidly...PvP was and still is a drag and is majorly unbalanced...(ok, back when one lvl meant a lot in the really lov lvls, I was a lvl 2 dwarf pally and the other guy a lvl 5 gnome mage, I beat him with over 50% of my health left...and WoW pretty much still works that way...)  and it still has less content than the games that people say suck...I'm seriously thinking of getting a StationPass and playing all the games you guys hate...lets see...SWG, VG, EQ2, shall I name more?

    here are the charts

    WoW - 1 expansion

EQ1 - 14 expansions (one is to be released soon)

    EQ2 - 4 expansions and 3 adventure packs

    Anarchy Online - 3 expansions

Star Wars Galaxies - 3 expansions

    shall I go on?

  • AvraAvra Member UncommonPosts: 100

WoW is not really known for having a bad launch - beyond some server issues the first few weeks, but the game was solid - as you will see if you generally ask around.

  • truenorthbgtruenorthbg Member Posts: 1,453

WoW had an awful launch.  I REMEMBER vividly.

I was a Guild Officer, old EQ 1 guild and others formed a guild, and our server went down.  It went down after the lag was just terrible.

We had to decide whether or not to transfer servers to begin playing.  We decided not to transfer servers, which was the wise decisions (although I voted to transfer) because the server we were to transfer to remained down for several days longer.
