You see that link up there? thats about "600" people asking to try the game, as as far as I know not even 100 have been given Buddy codes.....
Thats from 1 single website to...
Imagine how many people in North America+ Europe want to try the game but are scared to invest 40 dollars first?
There must be 10,000 people easily wanting to try it before they buy.
You can't expect people to have no problems droping 40 Dollars with all the negative Hype out.
Sony needs to make a Free Trial the second the mergers are done, I am sure the population would go way up if even half of the people decided to buy the game after the free trial.
This would be a Huge step to help save the game and get the population to a very healthy level.

Sony is working on a Trial version, similar to their EQ-2 Trial. It is mentioned in their Milestone report earlier this week that it is in the works. However, its not their number one goal since absorbing Vanguard weeks ago.
20 mins to downlaod 20gig game hehe ... guess the trial will have to be seperate from the rest of the game ..

but that $40 might buy soemone food for the week or somthing... not everyone has a well paid job so every penny counts kinda thing...
Sigil didnt want to release a trial becuase they knew the amount of players that would stay, would be distressingly small. They'd rather make curious hyped up persons pay $40 first.

There is absolutely no reason to launch a free trial, until the game is not in a presentable form.
haa haaa I love this responce.... $40.00 is a worthless amount of money. I agree... It is... and the people that claim $40.00 allows them to live for a week, must live in a country or economy so weak, that they shouldn't even think about playing computer games...

Buddykeys are for buddys. It was said more then once to not give buddy keys to strangers. It is easy to missuse them for plat selling.
And yes, the trial will be a seperate island but quite huge with own dungeons and overland stuff.

You missed the work aroundtrial island announcement now did now. You know that is the general idea of trial island. To give people a free trial of the game, well as far as I can understand it.

A free trial wont make any diference if the game is not more polished, better performance and has less bugs. People will download there uber Gig free trial. Run the game and realised they've wasted there time. I tihnk the game needs more fixes and polish yet.
As for a free trial being seperate island. This isnt good enough. Theres no reason why people cannot experience the game but have limited time there, they can see the scope to branch out into then and hopefully sub. I suspect they are making a highly polished island because most of the main world is still empty. Not good enough by a long shot. Sounds like SOE are getting desperate for a modicum of cash to come its way from VG.
As for $40 to $50 being a lot fo money well :
1: Some people have things called bills, familes of their own and actually live more indepandantly. So ahem its all subjective
2: No one likes to depart with any amount of money without getting something worthwhile. It makes people rather annoyed
You dont have to trust them. But maybe you love the isle and if the game is only half as good as the trial you might consider buying the game. I hear from US players that the game is 5 U$ in those rummage baskets in the shops. ebay might have a few cheap boxes too.
Desperate for the money ? Yes, SOE is most probably the evil. EQ2 has a trial island outside of mainland too. (Haha, reminds me that Drahatar, the bigges named in EQ2 pre expansion, was on noob island. Good memories
) Why do you think a company like SOE needs to lie to you for your 50$ ? They made 150.000.000 last year without vanguard.
