Remember what the mssage says at start of game. DONT FORGET ABOUT YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, WORK, OR SCHOOl, OR REAL LIFE, BUT GUESS WHAT IF YOU CANT PLAY THE GAME FOR 9 HOURS, OR GET A GROUP FOR 9 hours, and you dont got a 2nd pc, or a ps2, just a pc, your sitting on your ass for 9 hours doing nothing, or 2 days, so you do nothing for a long time basically, after you get off your job, or school, its long hard and boring, so you become addicted trying to get 1-2 levels, and this is why some people actually skip school, and do forget about real life, because of things like this.
Hey, Ive tried most every mmorpg on the market, Final Fantasy XI is a great game, due to the fact of the story line, missions, quests, crafting system, certain graphics, its very very good, however this is where i find the flaw on my server.
Not sure about all the servers out there, but recenetly on my server, the population on weekdays around my time was always above 2.5k at least 1-2 years ago, now its 1.5k or so, and way back when i first started it had above 4000 Players on the server, now its dropped to 1.5k or so, this is really sad, Also not just that being a problem, but Its really realy hard to find any groups, I mean i just came back after over 8 months of inactivity, and it takes 2 hours 15 minutes to get a group, and another 30-45 mins or so to get it full, and get to where we are headed, and then by the time, its just a noob group which gets me killed, so I leave due to them being noobies, however otherwise its really hard to get groups, unless you get lucky, due to the fact the game is either mostly END Game now, or the fact that its getting low on population, this is very bad, because sometimes it takes me upto 2 days of sitting here in a full screen doing nothing to get a group thats good to get 1-2 levels on max if even that.
I honestly think square enix needs to put a little solo play into this game, because Im paying like $24 a month with extra features, and aint really playing this game at all, but to keep it active, and honestly thats a ripoff having your account deleted after 3 months of inactivity, but not just that, but the fact its hard to get a group, so you waste hours a day doing nothing, because you got to be a party/group of 6 gay men.
Although I love Final Fantasy, Its just not going to make it much longer i feel, because of the way these things are going, also getting a party in final fantasy is determined by 3 or 4 unfair things. WHAT CLASS YOU ARE, WHO CARES, EVERYONE DESERVES A GROUP TO LEVEL UP, I Mean such as a warrior, dragoon, ect., and RANK, who cares what rank you are you dont have to be rank 10 till 70 +.
When I first started Final Fantasy XI about 2 years ago, before the merge on my server, I was having a great time no more than 30 minute wait for a group with flag up, then i noticed it slacking off to 1 hr, then 2 hrs, now sometimes days, what are we suppose to do.
Now if your telling me Beast Masters, I dont like Beaster Master Game Play, and any class should be able to solo, so please dont mention Beast Master, Or Pup, or so on.
FINAL FANTASY XI IS GREAT, but now its dying I fear the way things are going for it, I mean the big picture is having to wait hours/days for a group, no one should have to do this, besides this.
OFF TOPIC-
PLEASE NOTE This, Besides having to wait hours or days for a party/group, Their game wont even let you browse the internet, listen to your music, or operate your computer the way you can with alt + tab, unless you download TPP software, that isnt even in the U.S made, or anything, also note this, When the game loads up into memory it changes its name under your memory like FFXI9281, first time, then 2nd times FF28rka, and so on to keep people from cheating, and alt + tab will terminate the game too, so people cant look it up to apply cheating software, however they are screwing legit players over for being able to seek a group, and play another game while they wait, so basically i can be waiting 9 hours, and get nothing done.
World Of Warcraft, Although everyone says this is a shitty game, at least you can talk, party, get instant pvp, although there are little kids, and it does suck at times it beats waiting 9 hours for a group or even days, and days.

I think it might be your sever. I don't see much of any problems on my server. Some servers have more population than others. Plus, you have people switching servers now as well. The game seems to be holding steady on the amount of people still in it since the last census. I'd make more of a reply, but I'm tired.
To be the best, you must help each other become the best.

I agree this game is dying, when i played about 2 or 3 years ago it was great and bustling with players and i had my flag up for maybe 30min -1 hr max on even the least popular classes, now ive restarted i can sit even on whm waiting for hours and hours. I really dont want to pay a subscription to wait for 3 hours to actually play the damn game so im not going to move past the trial unfortunately. And i agree that far to many people will only play if their is the "perfect group" with the right subjobs and mains, If any game completely rights off classes their is a serious problem and it should be balanced. Ultimately was a Good game back in the day, but now its just a memory.
Really and truly, do you people live in an alternate reality or something? I am right now levelling SMN through the dunes. Last night there were four parties *in my level range* in the Dunes (I started out level 13). I got an invite in about half an hour and spent a couple of hours getting a couple of levels. One of party members was subjobless and getting her subjob items. This has typically been my experience in the Dunes over the past year or so, any time I've needed to level a job there. I honestly don't know what you people are talking about. I regularly see multiple XP parties in every place I level. My higher level LS mates don't seem to have too much trouble levelling either--not even our DRG (who just beat Maat--he complains about finding parties, but he seems to be levelling up)

I have never really had a problem with that all. I mean I have been playing since this game launched and I know it has its moments. but when I cant seem to find party it gives me time to farm and everybody knows that healers and tanks usually are in short supply i have got my non-tank, non-healer classes built up so I mean i guess it depends on the server. I have a really cool Linkshell on my server which makes it easier to get parties going too. So i guess its a problem to some. Good luck everybody
Another "I hate FFXI and let's play WoW thread", Do you realize these thread actually meaning that WoW is dying?
Yes, it is dying as we speak, because these people come on the forum bashing how FFXI is low population and how wow is better off. They did it because they started to felt no one in wow actually playing. Have you realize wow are sending BC cd to wow subscribers? WoW is pretty much dying already, not marketing strategies, it is they are desparated for return players.
I personnally never have a problem with grouping, leveling take so short. My gameplay currently is 20 day and i already have a 57 (almost 58) COR, 37 rng 25 brd 30 whm leveled. That's about the same as WoW leveling a 1st character to 60.
This game require you learn to make party, be social and have a linkshell. Why ? i always ask my friends if they want to level, keeping track their sub class also help getting a PT up.
It is so much fun then WoW leveling because i always talk during party and we try alot combination, not just soloing grinding to 70. That what's different between 2 games.
If you like grinding ALONE, play ALONE, doing everything ALONE. and get super armors to compare with others. Go play wow (and raid the same instance for a year for set of armors)
FFXI is a social game, it require communication and teamwork and great attitudes. At least people doesn't brag about their super rare armor they got, because armor getting is easy.
none
I strongly agree with this post because I tend to talk to way more people on this game not just about besieged but at more of friend level. I mean your given your own in game e-mail and message system which is great so that you can really plan out stuff ahead rather then just jump on and just sit around doing nothing. Just because this game is doing something to save the economy and playability (account bans) doesn't mean its a failing game. I do have to admit customer service when this game first started wasn't very good but now its very tailored to the players needs. Why should a game have to be easy. I dont want to pay a monthly fee for a game where i get the ultimate armor in the game and then I'm left with nothing but raiding and no sense of achievement. If you like easy games go play easy games. If you want a nice challenge with a great community and the ability to use (omg) social skills then join the fun
I've started and quit 3 MMORPG's in the time I've started playing FFXI and none can hold a light to it. There is more to do than just party in this game and you can feel free to do that while looking for groups. I do quests, I do farming, I read up on articles on ffxiclopedia.org. Or I go farm so I can get better armor. All these you can do while still looking for a group. And trust me, these can take hours upon hours to do and you will find a party before you realize it.
This game is not a care bear game. If that's what you're looking for, go play WoW. Also, there are times I get party invites while not even looking for group and while looking for group i've had wait times as short as 30 seconds. The more you play (if you are good at it) you will come across the same people and make friends. After you get enough friend together you can make a static party. Or get into a good Linkshell where you can make a static or find at least 3-4 people with a job they want to level in your range. Also, on weekends my server has 2600+ people on it.
Also with the new expansion i expect a lot of people to come back so they can play and will fall in love with the game again. So expect an influx with that as well.

The game is not dying, period. End of story.
In fact, the game seems to be expanding faster now than I ever remember - within the past year, they've added tons of new content, they've announced a new expansion - Wings of The Goddess - which looks to bring even more new content to the game.
It sounds to me like you (the OP) had a streak of bad luck, which does happen in this game or any other. I'm playing a DRG - unarguably one of the least "popular" party jobs in the game - I went from 16 to 60 within the span of a few weeks.
The answer to that is what Supply said... partake in one of the numerous other activities there are while you look for a party - you'd be amazed how productive you can be over time like that. Personally, the way I seem to be guaranteed a party is by waiting for an airship or ferry. Don't matter how long I'm waiting - 5 minutes or 20 minutes... The moment I decide to go somewhere else... {Party} {Do you need it?}
Anyways... FFXI is not a solo game. Never has been. Likely (and hopefully) never will be. It's not a hand-holding game. It's not an easy game. It is not a game that caters to people looking for constant and easy reward. It's not a game geared toward anti-social people who don't want to play with others. That's the way it's been for 5 years now and it's doing fine. It simply isn't for everyone.
If you're looking for a soloable game, FFXI is not for you. And to the OP, it seems to me you answered your own problem... You should play WoW, which seems, by your description, to be much more geared toward what you want.
I am confused how you're paying around $24 a month... the base subscription is only $13. Are you in another country on a different monetary system?

I can defiantly see the new expansion making a big difference since they just announced that they are adding a new time travel plot with the crystal wars and they have announced that there will be several new job classes. How exciting. I cant wait because it should come out around November or December.
Nope... I'm a proud Mithra of Pandemonium :-)

I just felt i have to reply once again because the OP's stupidity in analysising the game.
Basically in FFXI, it is very much possible to level any job to 30 without partying currently. However, people do NOT do it because mostly there is a risk in dying and losing experience point. It will often safer to be in group. How rarely do you get a party wipe compare to a soloing person dying?
Also look at WoW, wow as a game do NOT encourage players to redo the game from the start. Newbie area is completely empty as you relevel another alternative charatcer you would found yourself being CAMPED by high level that has NOTHING ...ABSOLUTELY nothing to do. Leveling another job is just as boring as leveling the 1st time because you will do the exact quests and run the exact path. The only problem you will face is "There will be NO ONE to group with to do INSTANCE ANYMORE" because everyone is 70.
Like i said, if FFXI everyone being 75 and they don't level a newbie job SO will WOW where everyone is level 70 and will JUST PK you while you leveling an alternative job.
Think before you speak, because your fail to realize the truth. FFXI encourage playing another job while WoW fails at that. Good think you could GRIND ALONE and BE ALONE.
none
FF sure isn't dying or anything.
But the OP has some things right. No matter what you thing FF has a lot of time sinks. This means that a new player who hasn't a high level job already is pretty much forced to spend immense amounts of time just to experience basic stuff.
Also because the game is old the players attitude reflect that. When most of them have seen all the content, they won't care to do it again. That's why a new player unless he happens to a very nice linkshell he won't have any chance to see any of it.
Final Fantasy is a very easy game but the devs made sure to add many time consuming things so it will look hard.
For the group thing in a way I think it depends on the server really. Although I never did have a problem in Garuda to find a group it kind of depends the time of the day.
As for the friend that compared the new job levelling at WoW with the new job levelling at FF, I'll say that probably he hasn't noticed that with few exeptions all people level at the same spots with no difference
Lastly FF I will say it again is a good game with many things to do, but many of them are just time sinks. As a friend of mine has said, most things you do in the game will help you the second time around the game and not with the main job.
A friend is not him who provides support during your failures.A friend is the one that cheers you during your successes.
Well, MMOs overall are massive time-sinks by design; they're crafted to keep people playing for a long time. Heck, look at leveling, that's a key element in any MMO, and it's a huge time-sink.
Another way to put it might be that it's a pastime - something you choose to do for the time that you're online.
So, saying it has time-sinks isn't necessarily bad in and of itself - it's purely subjective. It's a negative to people - generally speaking - who want to get to a given goal faster than they can, or within a certain period of time.
For example... crafting. Some people see crafting as a chore; something they do because they *have* to for some reason. Others, however, see it as something that's enjoyable; they like making the different foods, being able to provide juices and foods to party members, or to sell them on the AH, and so forth. It's a fun pastime for them. Same with Fishing or anything else; I personally love fishing in FFXI. So while a time-sink to one person might be a boring grind, to another it's an enjoyable activity.
That's actually one place I think FFXI is great... it has a great variety of such things and most people are going to find *something* that they enjoy doing.
And... the first paragraph, about a new player having to spend immense amounts of time to experience stuff because they don't have a 75 job yet... Is it any more time, really, than *any* player - even one with several jobs to 75 - had to experience on their way up? The quests/missions don't change from player to player; the only variable is how quickly they're able to get through them. I've started FFXI from scratch twice - once the first time and then again when I'd lost my original character. The first time, I zipped through certain quests and missions while others took longer. The second time, some of those that I zipped through the first time took longer and vice versa. It's all circumstantial. But in the end, everyone has to experience the same content, complete the same missions and fight the same battles to get to the higher levels. Every player who wants to become a DRG, for example, has to do the same series of tasks. Every player who wants to get to Khazam has to either do the key quest or buy the pass. So, I really don't understand where that first paragraph comes from.
