I heard that this game is based solely on Graphics and the legacy of EQ and that's why ppl are either rating it high or low based on these assumptions, I, for one, have no idea how it is so I'm not gonna judge a game by its graphics.
This does seem to be a common misconception. From what I have read about EQ2 on its news sites, and the videos of game play I have seen, it has similarities but it seems to be going a very different route then the original.
I think most people who believe it will be just a rehash of the original will be very surprised. Whether or not the new route they are taking is good or not is the real question in my mind.
I heard from my friend Rathma that EQII gonna be very different from the first one.
Just take the cities... in the first they were all split by race now you got 2 cities, good and bad sort of.
One thing about the graphic tho, i hate them, why? Plastic? no... color? yes! Please seriously, SoE, get some color pencil and stop using only one theme of color in every screen you make... it's very stale and not very apealing.

Mag1ster, keep in mind screenshots we are seeing are not even beta but Alpha. Just now the first Beta SS are being shown.
Its very possible that the graphics on release will be very different, how much of the final textures are they using ATM ?
Concerning the orig post, graphics is not the only thing but its one the most important things for MMORPGs because it helps tremendously to make the game more immersive.
IMO cartoonish and colorful graphics don't do much in terms of making a game more immersive. I like DAoC very much, but think EQ graphics are far superior.

Heh, EQ2 too drab, WoW too colorful. Why oh why must we gamers suffer so much!

This is not set in our time. In the medival times were they capable of creating every color of the rainbow in cloths and other objects....no. And from what i've seen, i really like the color schemes, gives it realism.

Yeah i like how the game looks. Some places have lots of colour, some don't. The ones that don't were meant for a purpose though, wether it be in a foggy forest, or a dark dungeon...

If these aren't colourful enough then... Well you'll most likely prefer WoW more.. Anyways, this is their recent screenshots, they have implemented the lighting effects alot more depending on what time of day it is, when the sun is revolving around norrath as well as the moon. I'm not sure, but during some point when the exploded moon of lucin and the sun are both hitting the same surface of the earth you see a sort of "purple glow"(demonstrated below).
And here are some other nice shots with colour as well.
Ok i am taking up too much space just go to the official EQ2 site i guess.
Playing: City of Heroes/ Dark Age of Camelot Upcoming: EverQuest II
I personally want EQ2 to get pushed back until fall or december.... I still gotta save up for a new machine.. This one doesn't even run CoH well... Let alone EQ2, Half life 2 or doom 3.

It's all a matter of opininon but again all the screenshot you showed me are only showing one theme of color. Like purple or pink with some other color.
I don't know, but for my part i like a lively world, i play DAOC too and seriously the game lack some color. It's stale and it is not what draw me to the game.
I might think otherwise once i try WoW but from what ive seen i can tell you that il love the graphic.
Don't jump on your horse im not saying EQII sucks, we all know i love it heh :P
EQII got a lot of very good point, i just really don't think the graphic is one of those. Yes they are good, yes it make my eyes shines when i see them, but im thinking about living in a world with those kind of color... and i think that it would cut a bit of immersion not to have more color.
When i think again yes it's not in the EQII theme to have a lively world, just think about the setting. WoW on oposite is suposed to have a beautifull cartoonish world, where everything is lively. Lol seriously even the horde part is lively :P
Anyway let's not start another stupid tread like every other time... i love both game but i prefer WoW, that my opinion and that it

Yeah i think WoW looks very nice with the colors.... But i'm more into the immersive world of Norrath more. I like when you walk into the forest all the trees are swaying in the breeze, the grass is moving and the water couldn't possibly be any livelier.
Norrath is really beginning to look like a living, breathing fantasy world.
