It's pretty basic... faction based pvp anywhere and any moment.
I can't stand pvp minigames / specific pvp only areas; it totally kills the element of surprise. I'm sure open pvp can be cool at times, but where is the incentive? Your target is not part of any opposing faction, thus, rendering no point at all to kill that player. All you would be doing is pissing people off. I derive most of my pvp pleasure from hunting down a real enemy. A good example of this would be the pvp system in EQ2. Yeah, they don't offer the big war battles like in DAoC, but the incentive to pvp was present. The game is looking great so far, but with the latest news on their pvp system, I'm getting a tad worried. The last thing I want is another fricken Warsong Gulch run...

you never know, maby they will implament a red server or 2 :-)
So basically your saying bring on the FFA servers. (with looting)
BRING THEM ON!!!!! YOU HEAR THAT ATHELAN? BRING IT!
(If you do, me love you long time )
Heh, I don't know I'm just a fan of the whole good vs evil thing.
on 2nd thought i would say, i find it rather likely that they would implament a red server. Even Everquest2 has some now, and they dident even have a pvp system at their launch.
and fcwedd there is no such thing as good or evil, it is all a point of view. Some people find them selves good, when other people find them very evil, so just take the side that you like the best, in the end it really dont matter :-/
I love GvG battles, dough it shouldent be like an agreement. it sould be like if one side desides,
"i want more space, more resources and more of that goooood power",
" and that nabour of ours looks pretty weak, lets destroy him",
they should be able to make a declaration of war that activates within a few hours (gives both a chance to mass the troops".).
This is from what iv read, also the way they intend to make Aoc gvg battles (with the tent, sieges etc). But i think, it shouldent just be confined to the boarder kingdom area, if 2 people both from the apposing sides, meets each other in a markets place far away from the battle, they should be able to kill each other.. No safe areas for guild battles :-)=.
battles :-)=.
I would suggest not going with WAR then, as the biggest part of it's PvP is instanced battles. AoC has those, but the big PvP pull are the Boarder Kingdoms and siege warfare.
Your in luck however, there are going to be at least a couple full PvP servers.
Now, I'm the exact opposite to you. I dislike faction PvP cause it's so impersonal, you have a bland enemy that is always your enemy. With Guild (GvG) PvP your enemies are other guilds. You want incentive to kill a foe? What if that foe was in the guild that is your mortal enemy. With siege PvP this is taken to a whole new level. Faction based PvP is impersonal 'oh theres an orc, better kill him.' Guild PvP is very personal and MUCH more involving if you ask me.
Another thing that makes GvG PvP great? You can actual talk to your enemies. You can smack talk, send spies into enemy ranks, participate in covert warfare, get others on your side to help build your ranks to take them down. Trust me, coming from Anarchy Online, PvP is much more fun if you can actually hold a conversation with your enemy. It brings RP into the mix and makes things a lot of fun.
So yea guys, take heart. There WILL BE PvP servers. The exact rules haven't apparently been pinned down yet. A lot of folks want full loot, but just as many don't. It'll be interesting to see how Funcom plays it.
I enjoyed your reply! I'm greek when it comes to the whole FFA thing. Perhaps it's something I need to try in order to fully understand and enjoy. Thanks!
Yeah, I hear ya. However, good vs evil sounds a lot better than point of view vs point of view
I would like to see full looting, but devs need to get more creative. How about allowing us to conceal items, like gold coins, from looters. Or maybe a Stygian could Curse an item, so looters might suffer a debuff for a bit after looting, if they are not careful. Also, why not make looting, at least in PvP, more 'realistic', the items are unidentified at first. Maybe based on the amount of Crafting you have with that type of item, you might be able to identify it. But you could never tell if the guy you just pwned was carrying junk or not automatically. Also, hide the character levels for PvP so you don't have lvl 80s mowing down lvl 20s without at least some concern there is another lvl80 in junk gear posing as a lowbie.
Good ideas, and how about also having like a skill that a low level player can cast if a high level player attacks him, that have like a 2+% chance of working, that basically will DB him. ofcause this would only work if there was like 50 levels between them. That would also discourage players of attacking low levelers. (i think DnL had something like that in their concept(sure DnL was scambait (and i was one of the idiots who prepaid :-/), but the idea is still good).
I would also love a player run bounty hunter system, like that had in SWG (only with all classes), not just a npc run system, like they are planing...
Thank you, and I think the bounty hunter system would be perfect for Conan. If I get taken out I'll pay 10 gp if someone can bring my gear back, or if the devs allow it, their head.
I think its good that they dont have a player initiated bounty system where a player places a bounty on someone just for the hell of it, but i hope that when you do get a bounty from NPCs that not only a group of really hard NPCs come after you but a real person/s
So like if im level 50 and im just killing lwobies because im a complete bastard I would rather have like someone around lvl 30-70 trying to fight me and take my bounty because they think that they can take me and not just some really hard NPCs where its almost guaranteed that i would lose.
