Starsiege / Tribes 2

Does anyone still play it? I'm guessing not alot of people do because of the fact it's really old and other games may have taken its place. I really liked playing Tribes back in the day, nothing else is even like tribes.

Man Tribes was awsome... loved the Seige/Defend & Destroy mode .

Edit Title: I forgot it's Tribes 2, but not Tribes: Vengence (old skool not the new one).

Isn't Tribes that game that they they wanted to combat Halo with, but didn't last too long?

No, it was out in 1998 (Starsiege, then the others came later). I would say more to combat Quake back then. In all honesty I like Tribes more then Halo (large areas, fast, not 12 year olds yelling over a mic about pr0n or something).

You're thinking of the crappy PS2 version, Tribes: Ariel Assault that was like Tribes 2 without the bugs.... or the ability to communicate with other players....

Anyway, the original Starsiege: Tribes has gone freeware and many people still play it. You can grab the full game HERE and find a surprising number of populated servers. Be aware that most servers are running one mod or another so it's highly unlikely that you'll be able to find a straight game of CTF or Capture and Hold. It's still great after all this time though.

Awsome, yeah I did see about the Starsiege (use to have it but lost it heh) and I have the Tribes 2 CD still. Glad to hear that some servers are populated (mods are fine). LETS DO THIS!

Tribes 2 was probably the best FPS I had ever played. It was absolutely ahead of it's time, and is still ahead of almost all FPS's that have been released.

There was nothing like mastering the use of the disc-launcher and having duels in the air with jet-packs, or the freedom that was available in slightly tweaked mods, the ability to create fortresses out of forcefields, and...Ahh. Nostalgia. Awesome game.

Ahhh, yeah that was the one. I really didn't like that game. Maybe the PC one is better. So in the PC you can't communicate with other players?

I was a huge fan of Tribes 1 but nowadays it's difficult to find a server without crazy modifications that gave everyone access to over-the-top weaponry. I also had Tribes 2 but I was so into the first one (with friends) that I didn't get much playtime out of it. I think it's time I install Tribes 2 again.

  • There were still quite a few good Tribes II servers going when I last played about six months ago. It was indeed a fine game, I might reinstall it and have a go later. I always enjoyed getting in that juggernaut armor, getting a ride to a base with a couple pals, and start sweeping through the lower levels.

Heh get inside a Heavy suit and drop Mortars all over the base... ugh man that was sweet. I liked it when people would try to shoot down an aircraft carring people and you shoot like 6 flares .

    Good times.

Tribes was the shit. Tribes 2 was no where near as good as Tribes.

Tribes had football mods, RPG mods, Tactical Air Combat mod, etc.

Tribes 2 didnt compare in mods.
