Sadly from what everything indicates they are just rumors.
FIrstly there was a rumor circulating that Lucas Arts was pulling there name off SWG when there contract with Sony expires .. but that doesn't seem to be happening. Then there was a rumor flying around that Bioware was working on a Star Wars MMO based loosely on there hit title KOTOR ..but Its also just that .. a rumor. Galaxies is seemingly turning things around though ..and hopefully they can make a truely good game out of the legacy title .. but I am not getting my hopes up.
according to the bioware site they are creating a MMORPG the only clues to this is a press release that came out in March 13th of last year there is also a link to a Jobs section so maybe they are creating SWG2 who knows
"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"
There was a time when I would have been really excited about any possible news of another Star Wars MMO.
But now, there are soooooo many new games coming out and soooo many of them are disappointing. There are very few real innovations in gameplay. Even the next batch of games is just evolutionary.
That said, I recently returned to SWG (I used to be a hardcore vet of the pre-CU game), and I had a lot of fun getting reacquainted. I haven't had to deal with any grind yet, so for now, it's still fun and new for me. SWG looks surprisingly good for an older game.
SWG is NOT turning things around, its still pretty much the steaming pile of crap its always been.
NGE, CU or PRE CU whatever the case may be. Lucas told them to make drastic changes and the original update called Combat Revamp that would have fixed the game and made it truly better was cast into the garbage.
Todays SWG is a hodge podge of the old, a FPS and a simplistic MMO. Follow the way point, kill the things with awful AI and return.
For those who stay its just a 3D chat room.
SWG 2 will be Jedi centric because that all Lucas thinks people want.
Based on my experiences with SWG, I would be the first person to buy SWG 2.
I am totally serious.
I agree... but then again....
I also said I'd be the first to buy EQ2... and look what happened! Odds are if they make a SWG2 it will be as different from SWG as EQ2 is from EQ1... this makes me very sad.
Grymm MMO addict in recovery! EQ,SWG preCU,L2,EQ2,GW,CoH/CoV,V:SOH, Aion,AoC,TR,WAR,EVE,BP,RIFT,WoW and others... no more!
Eh. I'm just waiting for The Force Unleashed. That looks to be a good use of Star Wars IP
SWG set itself perfectly, PERFECTLY to just simply "live in the Star Wars universe" and make your own stories/destiny. They screwed that ALL up when they figured people would rather play "iconic" classes and re-enact moments from the movies.
What a waste.
Granted, SWG had no developed content besides broken theme parks, it was a horrible grind... but it was a great world(s) with innovative gameplay...
Take old skill system, remove all Jedi or chance to be Jedi, add tons of quests/missions/story content that is seperate but somewhat related to movie content (like LOTRO does) and package it as SWG2
People can bash SWG all they want, but seriously, SWG has some of the best and most unique gameplay possibilities. No other game's player housing/city building comes even vaguely close. No other game offers such unique and viable non-combat classes. No other game offers such a wide range of business/player economy/crafting focused elements. I can go on and on. SWG is one of the most innovative and revolutionary MMO's ever made.
Yes, SWG management made mistakes. Yes, there were a lot of problems, but for such an insanely complex game, that's not surprising.
Anyways...back on topic.
I agree that there is a very good chance that the next Star Wars MMO will be heavily Jedi influenced. As a result, the timelime will have to be set at a time when Jedi's were plentiful. Was there ever a time like that? I don't know. I'm not a Star Wars fanatic.
My only wish is that SWG2 tries to be innovative once again, rather than following the pack. There are huge risks in being innovative, but the payoff for players is huge.

Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City.
Its still a good rumor.
Maybe it will be like Pre-CU SWG but with more risk and reward

I would rather have KOTORO. Overall a much better timeframe for freedom in storylines.
Come on Bioware.
I will never play another SOE game no matter what it is.
When they threw years of my time into the toilet ruining my chars in SWG with the crap they turned that game into they lost my trust for good.

Are you never bored of SW franchise? Even if developers screw 80% SW-based games?
