Dirtyd, what are you called ingame?
The economy is pretty dead. Loot drops are the way to go for items now. There is really no need to even deal much with the economy in the NGE, it just isn't viable.
The community isn't the same, there really isn't much of one anymore... It's just the facts, when you "dumb-down" a game and kill of its population, the smart, helpful players move on to other games and a younger playerbase comes in. There are a lot of credit spammers on there, especially in Mos Eisley... Community isn't really a big deal anymore. Besides, most things are solo content now, even though the developers made the NPC difficulty much more difficult.
All in all the game has a long way to go, but Bloodfin is your best bet.
Recently returned, im playing bloodfin atm, population is great. Although i also have chars on flurry and chilstera , Flurry is medium-low like always and chil is popular like bria,
But if your new i'd recommend any server, theres always people willing to help.
Mal,
I sent you a pm here with the all the info you need. See you I/G soon.

You know what after reading all of your post I am not sad to see you quit again. It's not just facts as you say. It's your negative biased opinion. Nothing that you wrote in your post is fact. That is a fact.
So good ridiance my man. Personally I hope you never find a game you enjoy again.... I think the gaming community would be better off without such a negative person.

I'm sure not a hater of SWG in any way, altho I agree with most of what Ave wrote. Me and my brother both resubed last month after a couple of years with other games... and we are both cancelling again. I dont know if you played pre-cu Getoverit, but it's just not the same game. But ye sure, some ppl who played pre-cu like the NGE, but what I heard is most dont. IMO, if you like things to be starwarsy (and iconic ) then SWG is teh game for you... if you're looking for something else you can most definately find it better in another game.
Anyways, sry for hi-jacking, Bloodfin is teh server to be! Hope you enjoy teh NGE!

Wow Smedley, didn't mean to offend you. LMAO, whatever fanboi.
I've played this game for years. I quit before the NGE hit and I played well after the NGE was around. FACT IS, that the VAST MAJORITY of the players past and present in the MMO market that have played SWG: NGE would agree with me.
Nothing I said in my post was "hating" nor was it biased. I actually prefer combat in the NGE MUCH MORE than I did in Pre-CU SWG. Pre-CU had a GREAT community, it had a great skill-based system and it was so open-ended that it was truly amazing and innovative, but the combat STUNK.
In my opinion, the combat is a lot better now, much more enjoyable for myself, but the good parts of the Pre-CU were removed or altered making the game so much less satisfying and complete.
I miss playing SWG from time to time though I have little time to game anymore but I am far from a hater. As far as the collision-detection, the dead economy, the low number of players, the loot drops, the NPC difficulty, as far as ALL that goes, I am correct and it really is FACT. SWG: NGE was a rip-off of WoW, even Smedley himself admitted that, as well as LucasArts, so why can't you?
If the 2 companies that develop and run this game can tell you how it is, why can't some of you NGE fanbois? Truth is Pre-CU needed a lot of work, and the NGE needs a lot of work. Something in the middle taking the BEST OF BOTH would be the game most people would probably play.

Nice try but I have played recently and I played this game at launch... Not that any of that matters... My 1 little subscription isn't a blip on the radar of the 300,000 that don't play SWG anymore.
300,000 X $15/month.
You do the math... SOE sure has.

1. You never said any of the things you mentioned here in your first post did you? I did'nt think so. I would not have responded the way I did. you came in and said " It's just the facts, when you "dumb-down" a game and kill of its population, the smart, helpful players move on to other games and a younger playerbase comes in." Where are any of the points you made in your response? If you had said that in the first place I would have accepted your opinion and never responded. There is a big difference in the 2.
2. You know as well as I do that you are an NGE hating troll that wants to get a rib in every post you can. And you are one of the worst disgruntled vets about hopping over in the current forum and spewing hate. Kind of makes it easy to react negatively towards you.
By the way I am no fanboi of SWG yes I enjoyed the game however I have become burnt out on it and once my current subscription runs out I will not be renewing.

Well, I guess I cannot prove to 100% that the playerbase is younger and less strategic... However, the game is signifcantly dumbed-down to attract a more (broad) base of players. The community is so much smaller now that it probably doesn't even matter, most people solo now anyway.
The REAL problem with the NGE is this...
1.) It STILL uses the same economy that was designed for a game that had no loot drops. The economy was originally designed to support item decay. Component drops were used to help crafters and looters alike interact. Now you have taken away the need for advanced crafting by adding major loot drops, by removing decay, and by decreasing the number of players. A very complicated and intricate system of economy was kept despite the lack of NEED for the systems now in place. In other words, the economy no longer supports the gameplay. Hence we have inflation and little need for crafting.
2.) Group XP. I only know a little bit about C++. My knowledgebase is a work in progress for sure, however I do know enough to understand that the there are real issues with the lack of group XP. It doesn't require much to increase the NPC difficulty. If you want to be fancy you can add counters, dodges, other varying forms of return-combat that would actually require some real work, but to simply go in and make NPC's more difficult on existing code isn't doing a lot. That is basically ALL the developers have done.
In the process of doing this they overlooked one MAJOR issue... If you make the NPC's much tougher then you have essentially made being a lower-level grinder absolutely a nightmare. If you are already level 80 with good armor, no big deal. If you are a level 15 with limited weapon/armor then there are major issues. BUT, the idea is to make players in that range group up, form hunting teams, like in the old days. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPSSSSSSS, we forgot to increase group XP!!!!!!!!!!
Our bad. We are professional developers working for a major corporation but we didn't have the foresight to correct this BEFORE it became a critical problem. If the packets are already added for group XP, WHICH THEY ARE, the real brunt of the hard work is done. So why is group XP still not fixed?
Available answers:
1.) The development team is much smaller than anyone really knows. They simply don't have the code-power to accomplish much in a range of months. I tend to believe this is the case. There just aren't enough people to pull off much more than some small updates every 4 - 6 months. That would explain why so many aspects of the game are STILL, after 4 years, incomplete.
2.) The development team isn't capable enough. I doubt this... They certainly aren't the innovative minds that wrote code for the Pre-CU SWG back in 2002-2003, but they aren't idiots either. SWG: NGE is a linear game. It's much easier to code than the original version was. That is probably more than any other reason WHY we even have the NGE. The code was so disorganized and overlapping that SOE was more than likely spending WAY too much money in fixing bugs and trying to write bigger updates to progress the game along.
So, after this big long boring post of mine comes to a conclusion I have just this to say...
SWG: Pre-CU was probably 5 years ahead of it's time in concept. I don't hate the NGE and I understand fully why it is here. It's a more simple game to play and develop/maintain, player and company alike.
I tend to think after interaction that the current playerbase is quite a bit younger than the original. That shouldn't be a shock to anyone, the game doesn't require the enormous amount of time to play and understand now. Everything is more "instanced" and that is exactly what SOE wanted.
The true problem lies in the fact that the game is still so incomplete and bugged. As much as I truly enjoyed/enjoy SWG I do believe that after 4 years the game is nowhere NEAR where it should be.
Peace-
I agree with the above poster. SWG now, is nowhere near as fun to play as it was in pre-cu. There are a few servers that say heavy, but on a scale from what heavy actually was, it's more like a light to medium. It doesn't take but to log in at peak times to see that most people are either in Mos Eisley or Reustess. Everywhere else deserted, and unused anymore.
The economy is pretty dead. Loot drops are the way to go for items now. There is really no need to even deal much with the economy in the NGE, it just isn't viable.

Peace-

This is where you live, troll.
Not trolling dude, I find major problems with both games SOE presented. Both have their qualities, their problems. their incomplete-ness.
The NGE needs at least another year before it can be anywhere near complete.
WoW is complete. I don't like playing the game, but 8 million people play it because it is complete, it is well-presented, and it has no bugs to speak of.
If SOE REALLY wants SWG: NGE to be a competitor to WoW, then follow the BUSINESS MODEL, not just steal code and put a Star Wars skin to it.
Make the game as QUALITY as WoW and then you might grab a significant subscriber base. Until then, keep plugging away with your 8 - 10 developers adding little content as the months roll on and dozens more MMO's hit the market...
Run along troll.
2 things Ave.

Sounds familier.
Once again all you have is speculation 'oo 8-10 developers' why not 8-11? you have no proof of anything, enough said.
If Ave wasnt such a troll he would know the actual # of Devs is 20 it's been stated over and over again. He likes to claim he plays when all he does is come here and make up lies. This guy is one of the biggest jokes on this site. Then he has the nerve to tell people to stay out of the refuge forum LOL This guy is one of the biggest hypocrytes I have ever seen.
Cmon now Ave come back and make up some more lies.
"Great minds discuss ideas, lesser minds discuss things, and shitheads get personal."
20 developers and the best they can do is a small update every 4 - 6 months? Then i guess my first theory was correct and they just aren't very good.
Thanks for clarifying that for me. If the precedent is continually followed then I guess SWG: NGE will see an expansion in 2009? Just in time for %$@# to hit the market as well. Can't wait.
Well at least you finally have some truth in one of your post. You finally know there 20 devs.

Coding C+ is a little more complex than ur average Play-Do or nursery building blocks =-)

They release small patches every few DAYS or so....
The one thing this game can use is COLLISION. In my opinion
Waiting for: Archeage, Darkfall 2.0, and Planetside 2.

erm i think he means only 8-10 are working the other 10 are playing WoW . But yeah SWG is not as fun as it used to be. And yeah SWG did try and copy WoW in a FEW ways..... like the fact they now have 8-9 classes like WoW....... like they also have a expertise "tree" KIND OF like the talent "tree" in WoW.... coincidense?? maybe. Thats my take on the game. But so far AveBethos is right. In the Pre-CU almost every server was at medium (towards its peak and decline) Wich would now be "high" pop in the NGE.
EDIT: fixed typos.
Playing: EVE Online
Favorite MMOs: WoW, SWG Pre-cu, Lineage 2, UO, EQ, EVE online
Looking forward to: Archeage, Kingdom Under Fire 2
