I liked the fact that they said an instance like that will last between two to four hours. Nothing complicated - just a couple of hours of pure whoop-ass.

Im currently looking forward to this game and Gods and Heroes. Hope that game footage isnt as misleading as previously released MMORPGs.

A better quality version will be uploaded to the Gamespot website soon, but for those that can't wait, here's a reasonably good quality version hosted at Stage6:

    Enjoy!

Sorry I just cannot get excited by any more of these movies and staged demos by developers. Guess I am just too burned out and jaded by "screens of a world I find amazing"  and developer hype. Someone wake me when it gets to open beta and stress test. Right now I would not bet the October release date is anywhere near a reality, just my opinion of course.

I have to be blunt here. Considering we have seen very little in regards to spellweaving, this means a) it is so innovative, Funcom is keeping the best for last to prevent intellectual theft or b) it is still under development. If they are still working on this in the design phase, I am also skeptical of a full release with this feature in 3 months.

Then I guess you won't get to see how solid, bug-free and polished everything is looking in the demo. You can go ahead and assume the game isn't remotely ready. I on the other-hand am not an ostridge.

I don't see how you can say anything is solid, bug free and polished from a dev demo. Thats a brief snapshot into an entire world. They aren't going to show you whats jacked up..they are going to show you what looks good.

I'm not saying anything is wrong, or that they are hiding anything..just don't believe anything you see until you play it for yourself imho.

I thought this was much better than the rest of the vids we have seen recently.  I like the idea of Pet Points as well so you can have little army or a big baddy helping you.

I second the concern regarding spell weaving.

Ok so I am a pessimist. I sure as heck do not believe they "saving the best for last". If you want to be optimists then be my guest, I guess I was expecting to see a bit more from E3 than a staged demo. I hope the coming week has a load of "hands on preview" articles on reputable game sites and I have to eat crow. I am just getting a sense of deja vu here.

I'm going to have to agree with Jackdog on this one.  Funcom has been really quiet about this game, and we have seen very little in the way of player demos for AoC.  To top it all off, they accuse me of breaking their NDA, as did this site, just for posting a video I found on Youtube from their technical beta test (last I checked the video is still on Youtube).  BTW I am not in their beta, so it is sorta hard of me to break a contract I never agreed to.  If they have nothing to hide and/or they are "finished" with the game, then why were they so hot and bothered by that video from their game being linked on this site?  Where are the female player models?  Where is the spellweaving videos, or preferrably the open to play demonstrations of a game that has been "finished" but only getting "polished"?

Smells too much of past games that were acting this way only for us to find out at release the reason.

    Edit: spelling

That video from their tech beta was leaked by a family member of a dev...

They will be showing large scale PvP on German game convention next month...hopefully that will answer your worries.

I've been playing MMOGs for nearly 8 years now. I cant fathom why some of you guys are so absolutely jaded.
Since you are such a old salty dog yourself then you should remember all the BS Funcom's PR department pulled before and immediatly following the release of AO. Since your memory is faulty I will provide a blast from the past link to remind you.

I hate to say this but I am thinking this way too. Out of the 3 characters that they showed in that video, not one of them is female? Are they even in the game yet? Because if they're not, how would they get feedback from their beta testers about what they like and don't like about the female models? Oh yea that's right, beta testers only beta test to play the game, not to actually HELP with the progress of a game through it's development.

I agree the presentation was disappointing. I mean pet classes that look a lot like what's available in CoH and a fairly empty dungeon with a boss fight that requires killing summons... that's it?

Nothing on spell weaving or previewing some of the more action oriented healing class spells like this cone and HoT stuff they've been talking about.

At least they made the melee animations look fluid. : /

    That was amazing!

They dared to have a 15 minute live demo for us, you dont see that many times.

And ofcourse things went bad, the other two dudes didnt appear, otherwise we could have seen alot more.

    Nice

Personally I think there trying to hide spellweaving from us because it looks incredible dull ala Anarchy Online type of spells.

The longer they wait though the more critical we will become....

Sorry, was just amused at the link. I think for just about every release you can find some "review" written by some absolute hack who has an axe to grind, and it's fairly obvious that this was the case with this tripe. I'd think that most people who have realized this fairly early on with the comments like "...does not bring anything revolutionary to the multiplayer massively onliney role playing game category". Really? Funcom did not bring out the first Sci-Fi MMO? Funcom did not invent and present instancing either? Hey, I'm sorry this guy had a bad experience at launch, and from his review he had a horrible experience, but to listen to him, you'd get about 1/10th the picture, and far from accurate.

I made it thru the launch, and I certgainly rate it as one of the worst MMO launches I've been thru, it was brutal, but what kept me there, was the fact that it was a damn good game under the technical problems, and within 60 days, for me at least most of those problems were solved, and AO was a great game to play. The reviewer in your link made a big deal that Funcom was essentailly following the same process that EVERY other publisher follows. However he also forgot to mention that Funcom actually did NOT bill many people until well after the first 30 day period, actually keeping their word. You know...not following the tried and true method that SOE has followed for years, billing people after they cancel, and so on.

    Much more accurate review: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/anarchyonline/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;review

Would I tolerate that kind of launch today? Nope, games are releasing in better state, so no way would I sit thru those technical problems. I've got no gripe with Funcom, they went thru a hideous release on AO. Easily one of the worst launches in the history of MMO's. However, I'm not going to suggest that AoC is going to follow on the same path based on anything I have seen, or have NOT seen yet.

To put a point on it, I dont remember any MMO that this far out had shown or given more info than Funcom has to date with AoC. That's actually a trend that WAR is breaking by giving plenty of info, and I applaud 'em for it. Go look at sites for Tabula Rasa, Gods and Heroes, Huxley, and Chronicles of Spellborn. As a whole, they are roughly the same time frame, and I dont think you'll find that many of them have made dev's as accessible, nor have the offered as much info overall about their games.

Either or, I've still got concerns, but there are 15 weeks until release, which is a LOT of updates we'll see, the Leipzig GC where they'll show PvP, and the beta process. If we are still sitting on a lack of info headed into October, I'll be worried, and I'd probably drop the idea of getting AoC at release, but until then, I'll be patient, and see what happens.

    Lol...

To those who are complaining that we're not seeing spellweaving:

Funcom said a couple weeks ago that it hasnt been implemented yet.

Now since they have 15 minutes on gamespot, why would they show spellweaving if it is obviously under development? They wouldnt. Spellweaving is probably still being polished and Funcom wouldnt risk showing it at E3. It would make sense that they would rather show something more polished a la - the combat system.

Yeah, if theres big chunks of the game missing in open beta, then Id be worried. For now, I dont have much worries about this game. Its looking good so far.

Actually quite a few past MMO's have been pretty accessible, especially at this point (in reference to AOC): UO, Shadowbane, WoW, Everquest 2, DDO, Face of Mankind, Guild Wars, Im sure there are more those are just the ones I can remember at the moment.  I personally am really pulling for AOC, but the lack of hands on time at this point in relation to release, and the few videos that we see are not doing a good job at encouraging us to jump on this game.  I do hope they remove the blinders soon.

    Cheers.
