I actually semi agree with you.  I do not believe they're dead but I do believe alot of developers are too complacent and trying to make quick money and thats definitely a disservice to this genre of game.  Its a shame too, so much potential for alot of games and they all keep coming up short.

Lets hope the next batch of games and some of the current ones turn themselves around.

I gather that the OP is saying that there is no consideration for ROLEPLAY in todays and all future MMORPG's. Which I suppose is true. There is only a small market for roleplayers, unfortunately they are forced to make do with whats currently available. Should we rename the entire MMORPG genre? No, we should rename the genre of RPG' s specifically designed for roleplayers.

Agree 99% though I wouldn't use the word complacent. More like... afraid. They are afraid to take new risks and to let the genre evolve. So any dev who has an original idea will not get the financial backing from the publishers, therefore the genre will not move forward, and thus creating a dead genre.

We need a publisher who's not afraid to think outside of the box, and market and promote these new ideas the way they would market or promote a WoW  clone. 'tis a pipe dream though.

Maybe just a publisher that realizes that the market is flooded with the same garbage, and they would make much more money if they were to market or promote new ideas. Hmm.. yeah that one sounds more realistic.

hehe it really dosent worry me if I get flamed 1,000,000 times over, it's just people chatting about games. I don't take this stuff seriously ;)

I am saying the Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games are dead. Maybe some of them are still walking around thinking they arnt dead, but they are just zombies. Dead men walking.

I am suggesting MMORPG.Com change it's name to MMOAG.Com. That is, Massively Multiplayer Online Arcade Games. Com.

btw, I have just been issued a warning for this topic it seems... wonder why that is... heh
