Unfortunatly, a lot of people seem to get that impression about Aion, when it really only takes 5 minutes to find out that the korean stereotype is just plain wrong.

props to you for doing some research on the game.

Naa i prefer P2P as the flow of cash helps fund a decent game. And if this game is good id be more than happy to pay them my cash in return.

The asian stereotype is only caused by all the smaller companies making clones of the popular Korean MMOs.  Now that the companies who made the popular MMOs are creating new MMOs, the Korean market's stereotype is shifting.  Aion will be the first game NCSoft made in-house after Lineage II.  Its other rescent publisher titles have also been off-putting the grind.  The same holds true with other major Korean MMO developers/publishers.  Alot are actually moving into Casual Games rather then fantasy though.

I also used to think this would be another Point to Click Asian Grindfest. But now after I learned a bit more about it, I think it will be a WSAD Asian Grindfest...

Clearly some of us shouldn't think in danger of hurting ourselves then *cough* above post *cough*

Ive been looking into this game since it was 1st annouced, its about time we got some new vids showing off its progress. Im not sure why people wanna call it an asian grindfest but i suppose well see once it released wether it is or not. I prsonally dont mind grind. Why? because i always play with 3-4 real life friends and chatting while leveling is an important aspect of playing an MMO for me. I tend to like asian games because even though their leveling tables are steep, they normally offer a reason to pvp and for me thats a must. I dont pvp just because there is pvp implemented. It gets rather boring w/o a real purpose or gain.

I think a lot fo the bad reputation comes from the clones that lesser known companies make and port over to the west. Games that really have no content so they fill it up with grind. Its gives the western player the idea that all Korean or asian made games are like this. Ive had the priviledge to play Japanese/Korean games ( at least thae ones that dont IP bad ) because i have friends in those countries who help me out and i must say there is a lot western games could learn and vise versa.

The reason its seen as an asian grindfest is because when you see its screenshots it LOOKS like one. Thats because it uses the same art style that Asian grindfest games use.

Q: The maximum level during this test was 25, and the levelling felt fairly steep. What's the level cap on release?

A: The level cap is still at 50. The speed is incomparable to Lineage or Lineage 2. It was much more similar to western MMOs. It's not quite as fast as WoW but depending on the player you could reach the level cap in a month.

The thing about this game is that it is supposed to be a game that breaks the grind. It's just that no one trusts this BECAUSE it is coming from a Korean company, even though people don't realize that it is actually being made by the Korean branch and the American branch of NCSoft.

Although they have said that the speed is comparable to something like Lineage II, it does not mean the way you go through the levels is the same.

Besides, even if there WAS  grind in the game, I'd rather grind while flying than play WoW and grind.

TBH from what I read about this game, its indeed suppose to be a completely new MMO kind. And everything you just said is true yes. I think the whole concept of Angels and Demons is kinda interesting too...

I still feel this after all they do say they will elinimat the type of grind common in asian games but saying isant doing. Netherless i wil watch this one and even paly it when it comes out and hope they get it right. If not there are plenty of other games im looking foward to.

PvPvE has me excited. Changing the look of your gear independent of its statistics is also another feature I've wished for. Two big reasons for me to check out Aion and give it a chance on release.

No you got it wrong. NCSoft mentioned that the speed of levelling is NOT comparable to Lineage II.
I believe levelling is a way faster than levelling with Lineage II.
Also earlier interview mentioned that they were determined to avoid number grinding (from AionFuse):

    Q. MMORPGs tend to require a lot of grind. Will this be the case for Aion?
    A. From the beginning we were determined to avoid ‘number grinding’. This is one reason why we didn’t put too much focus on a honor system. You will not be seeing systems where you'd have to do 100 quests or kill 1000 mobs to get up the ladder in Aion.
