Guild Wars: Fansite Friday Q&A #3

AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

This week the Guild Wars "Fansite Friday" interview is being hosted at the Guild Wars OGaming site.  Here is an excerpt from the interview:

The Necromancer recently received three summoning skills, can we expect to see other professions obtain similar abilities?

One of our goals with Guild Wars is to make sure that each profession is unique. For instance, the only profession who is able to serve as a focused healer is the Monk, and his range of buffing and healing spells is very deep and varied. And while characters of another profession may be able to enhance their attacks with some sort of elemental enhancement, such as the ranger's Ignite Arrow, the profession with the real handle on elemental skills is naturally the elementalist, who will have an incredible array of choices in all of the elements: air, water, fire, and earth.

I can't say for others but since I like to solo about as much as I group I am very disappointed that they increased grouping in this world..at the expense of soloing

I really hated the missions as everyone rushed thru them like there was no tomorrow not one group I went with , and I played everyday and nite, wanted to investigate the mission areas .. They all just blasted thru to the end as quick as possible,, Atleast when I could explore in the solo area's I could enjoy all the dev's put into the world, except the water with no phyics was dead.. Now with the solo area's reduced to nothing but a training area I think my interest in the game is about 5 now..

Rushing through the missions will get boring faster then Diablo ever did because this world is static and I think the player base,  atleast a large part of your player base will poof in no time...cult following that is all this game will have in the end.. Really a shame you made such a wonderous place I sure hope I am wrong I have been really looking forward to this game

I agree with you. Sometimes you just want to explore the game at your own pace. And I got the same impression as you when trying the Alpha. People just ran through the misisons and you got no feeling of the story whatsoever. That excact thing happened in Diablo II for me too. I got not continuity of the story when grouping because people ran through quests often in a non-linear fashion. Either it went dead easy and I was just standing there wondering what happened. Or everone died at once and the group disbanded. ::::35::

The other thing which actually disappointed me with this game was that you are actually limited where to go. This brings the Diablo-feel over it at full. The way this architecture works (a lot of instancing with a actually a low number of players at the same time), it is really not what I expect from an MMORPG. Guild Wars definately brings a lot more arcade-feel than expected, but nevertheless I think it will be a hit. As for me I am not really sure if I will spend so much time with it due to the reasons I pointed out.
