Any advice for a n00b who just keeps dying??..

DonatronDonatron Member Posts: 1

When I first heard about this game, I was really excited... I've played a few MMORPGs, but the slow paced battle systems weren't all that fun.  When I heard of a FPS based MMORPG, I subscribed and dled the game immediately...

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

But I'm having problems surviving...  It's not like Quake or Halo where everybody is equally powerful and you can just wreck shop if u have more skills than the others...  I reached BR 4 and headed out like was advised in another post, but I find my character to be too underpowered to compete...  The only time I manage to kill anybody is if the enemy is busy fighting with someone else and I'm lucky enough to be able to just stand there and shout 20 rounds into him without being noticed...  If at anytime an enemy does spot me, my gun is too weak to even scratch him, and he kills me with a couple shots..  So being seen = death....

I know they've all started where I am, so they somehow managed to make their way up to their levels...  Any advice for me so I can have a more fun and successful experience??  I know skills is also a factor, not just my level, but it's hard to develop <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />ur skills against others with such a huge advantage over you....

Yeah man I understand what your feeling when I first tried my hands at FPS I sucked but you will get better with time... (Playing Pefect dark really helped me alot)

Anyways I would suggest certing a vehicle first like the hated reaver or skeeter or joining squads and being someones gunner..

Try being a infilltrater and sneak up on people, but always remeber there meant for mainly outdoor use.. It takes alot of skill and patience to use them indoors...Also remeber alot of people use 3rd person view and are dark light clickers so dont get fustrated when they see you and remeber to crawl up to your target so you wont be seen as easily if there using 3rd person view.

Start off Defending first.. Having a interlink helps (allows you to track ememy movements) Much easier to kill a ememy when you know where he is at but he doesnt know where you are. Also get used to using 3rd person view, trust me it helps alot..

Also you need to tell me what empire you use and what weapons you cert.. If you dont already make sure you cert HA first no matter what you empire is... Trust me HA is the way to go if you want to pile up the kills..

Anyways these are just a few tips, dont get to fustrated it will all come in time.. Just try what work best for you IE if you like vehicles become a Tank driver and mow people down.. If your sneaky be a infilltrater, ect, ect..

get the all in one max cert for 5 cert points to start out and then don't jump headfirst into battles. stick to skirmishes against the edge of the main battle.

I to keep dying :(. But I just recently got into the reinforced suit and I am living a little longer and am actually started to get some kills with my sniper rifle. The first implant I took was advanced targetting, it helps me to know who will die in one shot :)

I recommend using vehicles.  Or maybe special assault grenade launchers with a team mate.  With the new increased ammo loads for nade launchers and someone else to keep them busy you should be able to score a few kills.  Also if you are NC or VS...Heavy Assault is a wonderful way to go as the Noob-Hammer and Lasher-spam are definate killers in close.  Also driving or gunning for the Tanks is a great way to get kills.  The most important part of all this is remain patient.  You will get better and as long as you have a decent connection you will start racking up kills.  I can usually drop 3 or 4 nades on someones nugg if im outside without being touched much...Gotta love tree's.

Well, we all started at the bottom and I am sure most felt the same frustration as the original poster ::::15::

Some things that I can think of is:

    • Join an Outfit. They will learn you the basics and you have more chance of finding squads.
    • Go through all the training in VR range early (if you haven't done so). It gives some easy gained cert-points to start with.
    • If you are going to grunt alot, get Reinforced Exo, it will help you last longer.
    • Try to observe how to defeat your enemies in various situations. In most cases there is an effective counterattack. Examples are Decimators against MAX units, jammer grenades against vehicles, darklight against stealthers etc. etc.
    • Be patient ::::39::. If you play the game regularly, you will become better. One thing is to master the rules of the game, the other is mastering how other players use the rules to their advantage.

Hope I see you on the battlefield ::::09::

Either pick up a anti-infantry max cert or get the uni-max, they are generally good to start off with, since they have alot of armor, and do alot of damage.. but they can't hack doors or repair themself they are pretty straightforward killing machines they require other people to assists them (repairing them, hacking doors etc)

If you don't want to get a max suit get medium assault, all the medium assault weapons are generally pretty good, they have better range than the heavy assault weapon but don't do near as well up close. Once you get enough points get the reenforced exo armor, it keeps you alive alot longer, also engineering and medical certs help you live if you get a break in combat, you can heal/repair yourself and others.

Also, unless you're snipeing or useing a infiltration suit, carry health packs with you, they will help you win so many 1v1 fights.

Most of all know your strengths and weeknesses, if your in light armor with a supressor (like when you spawn) don't try to kill a guy in rexo and a jackhammer...

Generally if i pick up a new char and want to breeze thru the BR quickly i start off with unimax.Main reason is the anti air craft which can give massive experience in all 3 empires.

However the down side is that when you have no base/tower and rely on a ams you feel useless.

So i would go for rexo armor as my next because with the new patches you can actually win with a sweeper shotgun in a rexo suit against an agile with a jackhammer(assuming you are not NC).

Then from there u should be doing descent dmg.If you have a good system and no lag or little .Try sniper it is a good exp.

Join Markov, JOIN THE DEVILDOGS! that is teh best way to get XP. It is so organized that it is hard not to lv up. Just add EVILPIG or Cogburn to your friends list and when you see them on, ask for an invite. If you want to get good at this game you need to be organized... simple.

Keep at it? Seriously, in PS you're just cannon fodder for your first five or six levels unless you hook up with a really, really well-organized squad....

  • AdardowenAdardowen Member UncommonPosts: 69

For your first few levels, you're only cannon fodder because you're still learning. The levels have no effect on your strength or skills, only how versatile you are.

Anyway, this is a very dynamic game. Everything is open to change, and you must learn how to adapt fast. Play around with the different empires until you find one that clicks with your playing style. That's the best advice I can give you.

here are some helpful hints that will keep a new PS player from being pure fodder.

~be a gunner.  Hop in the gunner seat of a magrider/vanguard/prowler and blast away.  You cant get hurt wile you're in a tank and hopefully the driver will be able to repair the tank when it gets damaged.

~beef up you're defense.  Agile Exo Suit is crap and you will die fast unless you have reinforced exo suit or some kind of MAX armour certification.

~Be a spy.  Get the cheap infiltration suit and sneak into a crowd of unprepared enemies and toss a frag/plasma grenade into the lot of them.  Makes for some great chaos and confusion

    Hope I helped!

Here is what I do whenever i start a new character in this game... (Im sorry if this was already said, its late, and im tired image) In order to get more certifications, (which enable you access to more and better equipment) go and do the entire training process. Thats in your sancuary. If you use EVERY SINGLE weapon/equipment and EVERY SINGLE Vehicle, you will gain 3 cert points! In order to gain the forth just go around in your sancuary and look around at stuff. A window explaining what they are will appear, giving you more exp! At the end of this process you will have 4 addtional Cert points, basically for doing nothing! I hope that helped you, I know it always helps me! image

You know, I feel bad for that Trix rabbit. All he wants is some freakin' cerial. And whats with those disguises he wares?! I mean, if you see a 6 foot tall rabbit wearing a baseball cap, you arent gonna think, "Hey, that kid looks cool! Let me go share my Trix with him." NO! Your gonna say "Hey look it's that ******* RABBIT!" And whats with that commercial where they give the Trix to the Rock Stars, and they still say "SILLY RABBIT, TRIX ARE FOR KIDS!" WTF! They arent kids!CantFitRest!

What i do is when other people are fighting i go around to the side of the army and take out 3 or 5 guys before i get shot or take them out from the back or you could go on a suacide mission with a reaver or something and crash it in to a AMS or a group of guys.  " go and do the entire training process. Thats in your sancuary.  If you use EVERY SINGLE weapon/equipment and EVERY SINGLE Vehicle, you will gain 3 cert points! At the end of this process you will have 4 addtional Cert points, basically for doing nothing! " if you have enough get ether the JH MCG or the lancer those are the bets wepons in my case. good luck image

    Very true.

An experienced player who starts a new character has little problems racking in the kills.Considering you can leave the virtual training room with at least 5 certs u are already a force to deal with.Alone the uni max of any empire is deadly.

    heres a tip

1 use wheel up on your mouse for medpacks

2 use wheel down on your mouse for personal shield

  • BaffaBaffa Member Posts: 37

Yep, thats a good tip. Use med packs with that scroll wheel, and you will need some med packs to survive.
I remember when I started playing, I ran around and got killed many many times until I found a nice outfit that helped me out. And with just a few days playing with these guys/girls I was as good as any average player out there ::::02::
So, join an outfit, they will help you with all the basic things. =)

    Thats so true....

I just got finished playing a free week of PS and I met a bunch of hackers and 3rd party program users. I hate that shit and I think if you have to do that you are not a real gamer your a poseur.

It was really dissapointing to see people openly exploiting and nobody cared OR they were asking how to do it so they could do it too.

    Pathetic.

Naw there just called hackers cause they can do this http://www.planetsidemovies.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=730.... You see its called the COF hack and its been out for a while now, I guess someone forgot to send you the memo.  Now that was just with a amp, imagine someone using the Cone of Fire hack with a MCG or Jackhammer :P

You can add this too the MCG scroll exploit, the ams force dome exploit, the speederxp and netlimters users, the speedsteppers, the packetchokers, ect, ect...But dont worry the Devs dont seem to care about cheaters so why should you?
