I'm looking for an MMO to play before AoC comes out and I was thinking of playing SWG. I don't want to play anymore high fantasy (ie WoW) games right now. So anyway, I played SWG at the beginning during the pre-cu stage as a Pistoleer and smuggler and I loved it. I'm hoping its still fun now and I was wondering if you all thought it was worth getting into or even playing. I loved the days of pre-cu, is there are pre-cu server? Thanks and if anyone is playing maybe we could hang out together. (possibly guild)
Just for reference my character was on the server Flurry and his name was Caalo Forrd. In case anyone new me. all you TEA members out there

I would say Not.
They dumbed the game down to appeal to a younger crowd. Its a completely different game. I left before Jump to Lightspeed and resubbed earlier this year. I played my OG Jedi (was a Knight pre-NGE, level 80 when I logged in) and crafted for about a month and cancelled. Every starport and cantina is empty. You may run into some people on Bria or Ahazi, but still its empty compared to the good 'ol days. There are no Pre-CU official servers.
Since they increased the PVE difficulty with Chapter Six, you need a group for any difficult mobs. Since finding a group is a rarity, they basically killed the chance of getting high end loot. And high end loot weapons are the only weapons worth using anymore, especially for PVP...which consists of 12 year olds trash talking with extremely uber gear.
Crafted weapons and armor suffer from item caps, meaning that even if crafters use the "server best" resources, they can only get a certain amount of damage, which is lower that their previously mentioned looted counterparts.
The game does have one good thing going for it. If you like to mindlessly craft Structures or Clothes, then it may be worth coming back. The harvesting system works the same way as it used to. This game still has the best resource harvesting and crafting system for MMOs. Too bad that most of the crafting professions are pointless.
Just to give you perspective of the type of player I am, I'm "older" at 32, have played almost every game out there. DaOC (2yrs), SWG (1.5yrs), WoW(2 yrs), and have been bouncing around trying everything. Right now I have the following games installed and play each whenever I feel like it:
9Dragons (free)
Anarchy Online (froob)
A beta MMO I can't discuss due to NDA
We're all waiting for AoC, Warhammer, Gods & Heroes, Tabula Rasa, PotBS, and whatever other MMO claiming to be out in the next 6 months.
Hope this was helpful.
Thanks for the reply, I'm still debating subscribing. I just wish either pre-cu SWG or another Star Wars MMO with a mature player base (ie not like WoW) would come out. I love the Star Wars mythos and universe, there just needs to be a good MMO worth that image.
Gave it a try two days ago after hating the initial game (believe it or not).
So far it's pretty fun if a bit clunky. ALOT more people running around than I expected.
There's a trial, go for it.
The game isant half bad, the new development team is slowly putting in the older game again and alot of people are returning to the server now. Granted its not as populated as it once was but i at least advise trying out the 14 Day Trial for yourself.
Also is u want better results in replies post in the SWG Current forum, not here in the SWG Vet Refuge, this forum is just full of haters who are still bitter from something that happened 2 years ago. I myself just returned to the game and it ain't half bad, just try and find a guild and you'll have a great time.
I came back and i'm having fun.
My advice;
Try it for yourself, don't be a sheep.
