This doesn't count.  But in the American Revolution Source game.  I got several people to form up in a line.  Then the enemy was rounding the hill, and we waited... and waited some more... then "Fire!!!", and it totally ripped apart the 3 people charging the line.

Its really hard to achieve cool moments in an MMO.  For me its when Ragnarok Online was in Open Beta testing, and the Prontera Server was always lag infested.  Usually I wouldn't want to get within 2 maps of Prontera just because of the huge lag hit you get.  But 1 time I walked its streets.  It was a sheer wave of merchant signs.  You couldn't see your character at all until you were out of town.  Also it was funny when an Acolyte would open up a warp portal in town.  You would have to jump in it quick because 40 other people were charging at that portal, and if 20 go in the portal will automatically close.

The first time I flew in a POB ship in SWG.....when I realized i was with my groupmates and you could look out the window and see the action.

While in COH several guilds took on Hamidon (End game boss) and did a charge. For a melee fanatic like me, it was pure bliss.

First time I spotted a Jedi in SWG. Played from start and when they implemented player Jedi they were really rare at first. Was outside Bestine starport. Soon as he triggered the lightsaber he had 50 ppl on top of him hahaha

First time I joined a massive fleet in EVE, seeing all those ships, hearing all those voices on ventrilo. Then we all warped at the same time. Big fleet ops are pretty much the highpoint of EVE for me.

The first time I rode in my Yalmaha in Anarchy Online.  The pure freedom of getting around and the zero lag at the landscape loading while blazing through Tir was AWESOME!

First relic raid in DAoC. Yeah, it was laggy. But, damn, was it fun. Surveying the carnage after the battle was great. Bodies everywhere. Stragglers getting picked off. Good times, good times.

There were a few cool moments in MxO where I was running from an agent, and it was really intense, then I would open a door to escape through it and another agent would be standing there and would kill me, lol

Or when I was running from an agent and tried to go through a door but behind the door was a brick wall.

Me and my RL buddies sporting a 10:1 pvp record in Asheron's Call was AWEOME....

The landscapes and events in Asheron's Call also were amazing.

Killing those giant bugs in Ryzom was an amazing feel too.  They were just so fearsome.

Kitin invasions in Ryzom have got to be my favorite as well, both for coolest and scariest thing ever in an MMO.  No matter how well prepared or how strong you think you are, when those endless numbers of giant bugs with razorsharp claws swarm over that hill towards you devouring everything in their path, then, at that very moment you understand how puny you and your preparations really are.

For some reason I always have to watch Starship Troopers right after and grin at the line 'You wanted to live forever?'.

Hehe, this is probably gonna sound lame now days...

After playing UO for years, and being use to the 2D graphics of UO, I still remember when I first logged into Asheron's Call on my whopping 266 Mhz laptop (with no 3D card). I was blown away with the scenery and graphics of Asheron's Call back then in November of 1999. I couldn't believe how pretty the scenery was to me. I remember running up to a big cliff out in the desert and just rotating the camera around and being almost awe-struck at the fact that the clouds actually moved across the sky!

I had played EQ, but the graphics in AC at that time were just so much more detailed, more colorful, and more vibrant. Once I saw how deep the game mechanics were, and the skill system, the magic system, and all.. I was hooked like a fish with a double barb hook embedded in me.

These days, I'm sure that sounds crazy, but I'll never forget being awe-struck at how amazing the graphics in AC looked. And back in 1999, Asheron's Call did look damn good, especially for a massively multiplayer game.

i agree with the POB in SWG was very cool! i do agree that it was some insane sites in eve with fleets... i think if you look at these replies you see none are of new ish mmos, such as LOTRO, WOW etc which i think proves a point that new mmos dont give you that all importnant split second kick like they used to!

My duel with a Imperial and bounty hunter in theed star port, my dumb ass tef'd and bam it was a fight to the death, saber crazy fun, i finally won against the two, but that day I learned never to accidentally hit my activate hot key ever again while in a city.

Ahh, days of being a "true polygon jedi" are gone, replaced with jebi.

    Most games out there...

The best thing I have seen is the remove program button. No flame intended,

But a huge fleet battle, with little lag back in the day when eve was eve

By far the coolest thing ever was back in late '99 exploring the depths of Solusek B in the original EQ with a handful of friends. As things started to get progressively more difficult we started to call in more guild mates. Eventually there were close to 50 guildies there exploring the depths of the volcano. I remember with great clarity the exact moment we entered the chamber of the great red dragon Nagafen. Seeing him for the first time, being able to share that with my friends... being the very first on our server to see him. It was the most amazing experience I've shared in an MMO to date.

It may not be the craziest or most amazing thing anyone has posted here, but for the time it was the most unbelievable feeling. The most amazing thing I had ever seen in a video game, bar none. From that moment there were plenty of moments, breaking Fear and Hate, stepping foot into Time, my first Kirin raid, Onyxia, MC, the deception quest line ending with Darathar in Eq2... All of them amazing in their own right, but none will ever compare to that moment in Sol B, when a group of friends saw something no one else ever had, and got spanked by it terribly.

being able to jump off a huge huge huge mountain in Asheron's call was probably the coolest thing ever. Sure, you died, but the on the long way down...priceless.

    3. Seeing the action outside outside the window in a PoB ship

    2. The random events in SWG...(Reliving episode one was funa s hell.)

    1. Raiding stormwind in WoW was DEFINETLY by far the funnest moment tho. Getting together about 70 or so people, and invading this HUGEEE CITY! Priceless...

Waiting for: Archeage, Darkfall 2.0, and Planetside 2.

R.I.P Shadowbane; The best MMORPG I've ever played...

I've played MMOs a long time and have been in a lot of games but my top three are

    • My first few weeks in Asherons Call back in the beginning when there were only a handful of games. MMOs were new and and the ideas and posibilities seemed unlimited.
    • Planetside - the first time I was part of a massive invasion of an enemy world. Columns of armored vechicles with air support all rolling into the fight.
    • My first castle siege in Lineage 2. Nothing like it in any other fantasy MMO, Period.

Sure, there were a ton of pretty moments, impressive victories, hilarious fumbles in other games but those stick out. Not to many MMOs make you feel like you are there and part of it.

Mine was back in the original EQ.

When a couple friends, one being a dwarf, decided it was time for us to leave Everfrost and travel to Butcherblock. The journey to Freeport was the most exciting thing. Seeing all the new lands I had not been to before was a thrill. Then having to actually wait for the boat to arrive at the Freeport dock, for some reason I loved waiting for that boat, of course there was always the threat of being jumped as we played on the RZ server.

But that initial trip from Everfrost to Butcherblock was my first online whoa moment.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Coolest things I have ever seen in an MMOG?

Fleet battles in Eve-Online 100+ strong and ventrilo yappin' in my ear.

Deforming the terrain in Wurm Online. http://www.wurmonline.com/

Raiding in WoW for the 1st time (admit it was fun for awhile)

    Firework shows in ATITD. http://www.atitd.com/

Logging into UO in '97 and seeing MMOGs for the 1st time.

Losing all my stuff in UO and feeling the pain of loss of stuff that only exists as downrange digits.

I think coolest thing I saw/experienced was the Flight over Mulgore after I shot myself in the Air from Thunderbluff's Plateau with the Moon-faire thingy.

But coolest I WILL see will for sure be the Greenskin quick travel Method in WAR: All hail the Orcapult

    Gotta go way back.

A friend got a few of us into Meridian 59 (Vale of Sorrows.  After that it sucked imo).   My first MMO.   Had a blast.  Double jeweled up waited for a certain most feared and respected member of the server to walk outside of the main gate and dropped his ass .   Took his colored magic spirit helm and the place went nuts.

    Good times.

I remember killing my first ogre in UO...I was only 13 years old back then and the experience was truly amazing...With just using the practice weapon and a variety of non magical armor, it was a challenging task but I was able to defeat it with the help of my older brother who got me hooked to the game and to top that off the uber LOOT he dropped, I showed my new durable longsword of vanquishing with pride at the strrets of Britain...

The experience was truly amazing, it made me forget all about the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo games in a heartbeat...I felt like I was acutally in the game and that alone is by far a totally different experience then when I play regular RPG's on the console systems.
