Someone read on of my threads and recommended that I give this game a try. I am wandering how big the population is on the heaviest U.S.A. PvE or RP servers and what the population break down would be for each 10 levels. For example: 1-10 is 1% of the playerbase; 11-20 1%; and etc. You don't have to break it down that way either. You could just let me know if this game will be friendly to newbs and if the community will be too. I first started playing MMORPGs with DAoC in 2002, so I do have some idea what I'm getting myself into.
I know this game is called Everquest, but does that mean the game is a quest based advancement game like WoW. Because quest based advancement is really boring for me since most quests are created to be done solo. I like to group with others, because it is fun killing things while having a conversation.
I am just afraid that because the game is so old, I would be all by myself leveling up until later levels.
MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW
Currently Playing: WAR
Preferred Playstyle: Roleplay/adventurous, in a sandbox game.

As much as I'd like to tell you to buy it, I can't. You would be leveling by yourself (unless you have some sort of miniature bot army). It's best to join with friends that will play with you and level with you. If you're starting a new character, you need a support group to level with. Most of the new toons in game are people leveling alts so they're already with fellow guildies or they're multi-boxing...
Unlike WoW, EQ offers mostly group-based quests. You'll need help finishing most quests you accept. There are a couple of solo classes out there (necro, wizzy, drood), but nobody can play through the game without grouping unless you just want a mindless xp grind to level 75 (soon 80).
You will be lvl'ing by yourself, guaranteed.
It is not a lot better at the higher lvl's, Everquest has become very very raid-centric. Meaning grouping for people at lvl 75 has also become .. well..annoying, because of the lack of people.. People tend to log on for their raids, for a few hours, and log of again. Everyone is max lvl almost in Everquest.
Quest xp is really really small if you're wondering, noone does quests for xp.
A lot of hacking atm too, I'd say over 50% in eq hacks in some way or another since there are no bans for it anymore. That's a fast way to lvl toons if you're behind.
