I just got a 3 HOUR BAN for saying, 'F u'. I can go on and on about how the gamers constantly use acronyms like WTF or how i'm waiting for another game cause im tired of eazy mode wow. What upsets me the most is the reporting policy. This policy allows anyone to use the system as a loaded gun against rival players. I'll Let this email speak for itself here...

I think it's a great policy. I'm not sure if you have a complaint here, it's hard to see what context you were banned in, perhaps you could shed some light about what you guys were arguing about?
Anyway, looks like you've got 3 hours to kill. I hope you spend it thinking about what a naughty boy you've been!

A player was begging me for money. I'm trying not to be defensive here, but how is this a great policy again?
What exactly are you complaining about here.
You said "F You" on a public game server, with lots of underaged people.
Blizzard is responsible for what happens on those servers. You know as well as anyone else that Blizzard has rules regarding appropriate language, and "F You" isn't part of that I'm sure. Noone forces you to play WoW, if you don't like it, you can just cancel your account.
It says "whisper" at the end of the included comment (blizzards email).
So I assume this was a tell you sent someone?
I guess if you said something that actually bothered me (this is just an example). My response would be to put you on ignore rather than file a customer service complaint.
In fact I think that should be the first step in a case like this. In fact I would support a ban for the person who reported you.. because imho they are abusing the customer service mechanic. I'm not saying I support what you said.. not going to rant that you said something wrong either.
I don't know what this was in response to etc etc and don't care, because it doesn't matter.
The short version in my opinion should be.. (I lied obviously this isn't the short version)
Any player in the game has the ability to use the /ignore function. It doesn't appear to be something said in a general chat as it appears to be a in game tell. So it only was directed at one player... very easy to apply the ignore function.
Its a waste of customer service time to deal with this.. considering what things are most likely going on.. that could be dealt with instead.
It should only even warrant customer service action if you were trying to bypass the ignore function...
So yes basicly.. if the person didn't add you to ignore... and you didn't try to bypass being on ignore (logging on an alt).. I believe the person who appealed you should be the one with the ban.. or they should have a 3 hour ban as well... having a letter explaining to use the ignore function next time instead of tying up CS resources with this.
Like I said don't know exactly what happened.. but there are always two sides to a story.. sometimes more than two. I just personally do see this as being a waste of customer service time.. I've seen much worse said in MMO's over the years.
Drae-mer, I dont agree with you on this one. Yes, no one forces me to play wow. Should i be banned for three hours for useing an acronym? I dont think so. As for a drama, I pay cash to game and this is a slap in the face to a loyal customer whos been playing since 2004. Perhaps you think its ok to extract revenge through there harrasement policy through frivolous reports. I dont.
They have about 6 million people playing, probably getting thousands of reports every day from people.
They have rules that are clearly stated in black and white before you join the server, one of them is to use language that is decent and appropriate.
You abused those rules, knowingly, and Blizzard has all the right to ban your account now. Instead you got a 3 hour ban. I know people abuse the system, but remember they have 6 million people playing, and the only thing they ask from you is to obay by simple rules. I really wouldn't think too much into this. I'm sorry if you got banned though.

I'm afraid "FU" is definitely a masked version of a bodily function (which is what F'ing is all about') It doesn't matter if you were using the 2nd or 3rd definition of the word found in the dictionary.... they took it as primary.
You clearly broke the rule stated... breaking the rules (you agreed to them when you clicked Yes to the Eula) has consequences. Your option if you don't like their rules is to stop playing the game. (vote with your wallet)
If that beggar was a 13 year old child, your response of FU was not appropriate.... heck, it was rude even if they were over 18....

This coming from someone whos display picture says , 'WTF'. Thats just brilliant. My point is, That player wasnt offended, this was his way of making a frivolous report to get me into trouble. As simple as that.

3 hours is nothing but it does seem harsh considering how probably rampant things like this are. I wonder if someone was reported for 'wtf' whether they would be suspended as well-if not it does seem harsh in your case and might have been a deliberate act of provocation on his behalf. Although we don't know his side of the story admittedly.

I am going to have to agree with Kyleran here. You broke the rules so now you have to pay the consequences.
This may be one of those instances where you would have been in less trouble if you would have just cursed. By using F U, Blizzard could claim that you were deliberately trying to bypass the profanity filter.
In all my years of online gaming, I have never been in a situation (and I have been in some crazy ones), where dropping the F-bomb accomplished anything constructive. The best policy is to just put them on ignore and move on.

You deserve the ban, its that simple. Don't try to come up with excuses, Everyone knows what you meant with "F U".

Begging is not a bannable offense unless you are spamming. I'm fairly sure his persistance could have easily been muted. You decided to take the conversation further by insulting him. He took that insult as a means to petition you and he won. Next time just ignore the person.
I understand your anger at their policy, but it is because of the players. Players must learn to hold their tongues when it comes to verbally insulting players regardless of the circumstance. If WoW's policy looked at every claim for context they would be busy 24/7 reading poorly written insults thrown back and forth over chat. Instead they look at the offense and ban based on content.
So, sure you can be banned for saying WTF or FU. Sucks, but it is in the best interest of the company and player.

Hey, I was just pointing out you clearly broke their rules and got nailed for it. My son got tagged for the exact same thing, he said FU to someone in Battleground chat (yes, I washed his mouth out with soap) and they slapped a 3 hour ban on him. (the emails come to my account).
But he didn't complain about it.... he just said.. "oh yeah, I was gonna tell you about that"
