Not really unlike EQ2 and LOTRO WoW is an unorigonal game made from a hodge-podge of ideas from other games and non MMO systems.

    EQ2 was out before WoW.

EQ2 and LotRO maybe look a bit similar in graphics and gameplay, but, not WoW.

I am bashing none of the games - just pointing out your incorrect juxtapositions.

Tell me and how are EQ2 and LOTRO more original then WoW?

EQ2 was released a month before WoW. I really doubt WoW copied anything from EQ2 in that mean time. Besides WoW took aspects from EQ and improved upon it, WoW even thanks EQ in its credits. LOTRO and EQ2 and WoW all share very simaler gameplay. A blindman can see that.

You do know that there were MMO games released before WoW?

They all share similar game play because they are cookie-cutter mmorpgs based off of the original EQ and Meridian 59.

What does this have to do with the topic?

Exactly so back to my original question, why is WoW the only mmo getting all the bashing.

Because WoW is the most famous of 'em.

In this thread at least, there was no bashing of WoW but actually a cheap baited shot at other gaming communities. It's basically a consensus of older veteran players who have to keep hearing people spout off that games are copying WoW when WoW itself has been influenced by games  before it as well. It's a case of pot calling kettle black.

If you ask me, having played them all, EQ 2 is better than WoW and LotR combined.

Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City.

Do you enjoy playing WoW? If so, then who cares what other people are saying.

Games copy each other in certain aspects  - It happens constantly. Why always re-invent the wheel if you don't have to? At the end of the day, creating video games is a billion dollar industry and they're going to follow the dollar and ultimately use what works by learning from other studio' successes and failures. This is no different in the MMO genre.

EQ2 has always felt very bland to me i dont know why i gave it multiple trys but it felt old fashioned and slow just something about that game felt wierd.

Most of the bashing is more due to statements and actions of the WoW community more than the core mechanics of the game itself. No one denies that WoW is a financial success, but it does owe quite a great deal to the games that came out before it. Some of those games had no real market successes or failures to give them an idea on what to develop.  WoW was shaped and influenced just as much by games that predated it, so calling these new games derivitives of WoW is basically denying every other game that came before it. Regardless of the success of WoW it did not invent the MMO genre as much as it just broadened the markets appeal and acceptance.

WoW based the basic game structure on what EQ DiD.

Art style Origonal WoW storyline and WoW;s origonal name was based onthe tabletop game of Warhammer. WoW was origonally going to be a warhammer like game but Games workshop didnt give permission so they had to change the name and some of the place names.

Basically the game mechanics were based on origonal ideas created for the game EQ. And the art style and races and of course the game story was largly based ont he warhammer franchise.

Basically blizzard did the same that they did for starcraft copied of  off another game franchise.

    1. If EQ didn't exist, neither would WOW.
    2. LOTRO sucks.

Well now, I'm an equal opportunity basher....

Actually, the truth is, I only respond to threads that other people post (rarely starting one of my own).  Since more people post threads either for or against WOW its only natural that I would weigh in with my opinions more often in them than those for the other two games.

I've never even played EQ2, so I never really respond to any thread about it other than to say, if things don't work out in EVE I might give it a go before AOC/WAR come out.

LotRO I played, but quickly tired of it...so sure, I'll chime in what happend and why I felt that way, but I won't mercilessly bash the game (or WOW for that matter) just for the fun of it.

But I will always share what I did not care for in each game, which of course leads to why I'm not playing them now (or considering going back).  There was a lot to like in both games, but I'm done and have moved on...but doesn't mean I don't like to discuss them here.

What a weird topic.  If I've got it right the OP seems to be miffed that his favourite game WOW gets lots of abuse, while EQ2 and LOTRO don't.

What a very strange and troubled situation.  Why not just be happy with what you like and stop reading flame posts between MMOs.  You'll be a happier person I promise.

Because EQ1 and Lotro don't have 7,5 million subscribers, so there is nothing to be jealous about.
