Mechanics-wise....What really has changed?

VhayneVhayne Member UncommonPosts: 632

I haven't really played this game in years, (asisde from a short stint when the progressive servers were released)  but I used to play it religiously way back in the day (around 2000) or so.

So my questions are based on what has changed with the game.

I'm NOT asking what new raids, dungeons, loot, expansions, etc. there are now.  I'm looking for *changes* made to the game to make it seem more accessible to new players, or any other relevant changes.

Examples:

I know they removed hell levels a long time ago, but compared to many years ago, how is the leveling process and time for progression?  In other words...did they increase the exp gain rate?

Have they lowered/removed the exp/level loss when dying?

Health and mana regen times.  Have these been shortened?

Any crazy changes to classes?  I remember playing my necro, and I felt like I was just a mana battery.  And I had spells that were absolutely never used, such as the plant-only nukes.

I remember a change made to higher level spells, so that you couldn't cast them on lower level players.  This would have been a change that would be in this list. :)

Just add anything you can think of that's a huge drastic change that's been made to the game in the past couple of years.  Thanks

Nope, still one hell of a grind.  Unfortunately, unless you have friends or you're multi-boxing, it'll be tough to level up a new character.

No, you still have XP loss and have to get a rez to regain the XP.  However, corpse runs have been eliminated from the game.  You can now summon your corpse to a commons type area and often find rezzes available there.  If you choose to ignore your corpse, it will pop to a zone named shadowrest and you can go there to get your loots back.

Health and mana regen times.  Have these been shortened?

In a sense.  It's now easier to find mana/hp regen gear.  I'm a constantly nuking wizzy with a rather small mana pool and I rarely run out of mana unless I'm in a long raid fight.

Not sure what to say about this one.  There is constant tweaking and nerf-bat swinging in an effort to balance the classes.  Overall, the balance system seems to be healthy.

The biggest changes IMO are the addition of the guild hall, guild lobby, and guild banners.  They're all great additions and serve as the new gathering place for many people (in lieu of the PoK).

Health and mana regen times have definitely been shortened. You now go into rest mode after a fight and both health and mana regen are accelerated. No where near as bad as it was in 2000. I remember giving up on my rogue because all I did was sit and heal!

Well, the way I have been banned lately I feel almost afraid to SPEAK.

EQ 1 sucks now.  No one will tell you that because no one plays it.  If you love EQ 1, play SoD.  It is as close to a hint of a free server that I can go without getting banned.

    Good luck!!

Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City.

SoD <- this is not a link

Is an acronym for a semi-illegal, reverse engineered, none supported version of EverQuest.
Which because of it's lack of legal standing, is not supported on these forums?

I and several friends (about 496 of them, per the guild roster) still play. We actually seem to have fun, meet regularly, and advance through much of the world of Norrath, on a regular basis.

My dog barks some. Mentally you picture my dog, but I have not told you the type of dog which I have. Perhaps you even picture Toto, from "The Wizard of Oz." But I warn you, my dog is always with me.
