thank WoW, more girls playing MMO's!

/mood_sarcastic   I hope that helps with the people taking me seriously...

We are always complaining about how WoW changed MMO's and the MMO market.. but what good things has WoW done for us?

Among other things (unimportant things like making the market profitable enough for top end game makers to keep creating MMO's for us)  WoW has brought more REAL girls to MMO's!!  now slightly fewer of the females you see in game are sweaty old men!

Proof you say?  go to my web profile  www.myspace.com/ravensong3 .. scroll down until you see the big pic that says "gamer" at the top, this is my girlfriend and she LOVES WoW and EQ2.  She made this pic to model her new warcrackwear.com t-shirt =).

Scroll down a little further to my top friends and notice the second one.. Amy Lee.  She is a huge WoW fan as well... and now an MMO gamer for life thanks to WoW... but be careful this one (she's actually our neighbor) is still underage!

umm im sorry to burst your bubble but girls have been playing mmos and games ingeneral long before wow was concived.

most of the female players i met/know dont talk in game or act female at all. some even play male classes.

as far as i can tell the egotistical girl gamers are the only ones you see in the spotlight. the acually good female gamer you dont even know is a female lmao

so sorry WoW did not bring girls to online games. all it did was promote more to the spotlight and boost their female egos....

I simply stated that it brought MORE girls to the genre... which it certainly did!

Now.. whether or not it actually upped the percentage that is female.. that is debateable =P

This is a basically a tongue-in-cheek post anyway... just a poke at all the anti-WoW people.

    LOL..

I confess, it was pretty low... another thread about "do girls really play MMO's" on this forum inspired it.

I figured there was no harm.... I'm not forcing anyone to click the link =)

Apologies for the waste of space.

This statement is hard to prove. But there may be some validity to it. I know four girls who play Wow and they never played MMORPGs before Wow. I know thats not enough evidence but one could argue that Wow appealed to more individuals then previous MMOs including females.

ok...what exactly is "act female"? You can't tell the difference at all until you start hearing their voice over vent/TS.  Hey, it's still hard to tell even when you can hear their voice.

  • IchmenIchmen Member UncommonPosts: 1,228

you clearly never talked to gamer girls eh... dont need vent or ts to know they are female....

their mannorisms and actions can normally point out a female from a male. pictures/voip and msn only prove it with the latter.

but its easy enough to find real females ingame that dont act female.

the normal act of female is like saying stuff like "tee hee. on huney buns..ect..."  the normal girly related things

i ran across 3 females who act more male then most males i know.case inpoint playing them in an FPS they are more vulgar, and crueler then most males its like talking to a tough guy who just owned you at CS with a knife ... only its a female and she did use a knife.....

if you ever run across em you will know what im talking about..

Over half of my guild are female gamers and none of them talk like that.

You are all very silly.  There are no females on the internet.  We are all just fig newtons of your imagination.

I know it gets tiresome when everyone keeps on poking WoW [people sometimes poke EvE with lies and it annoys me] and i feel sory for you but you have to admit some of there points are good ones.

there might be some truth to this. besides dude man bragging about his girlfriend, which i didn't bother to look at, i think wow has attracted situationally hotter girls than most MMOs.  when i played eq and ac2, most of the girls playing were playing with their husbands or whatever, and usually weren't that hot (3-5 ish).  some of the girls i've saw playing wow were at least 6's and i've even seen a couple 7's in my day.  not like it matters, but at least it relates to the op

There's no contradiction here. Its quite possible to increase the actual number of females playing MMOs without increasing the precentage of MMO players being female. Basic math at least where I come from

I really thought long and hard before replying to this one, but for some reason or the other I just couldn't turn away and move on.

Yeah, there are more girls playing MMO's now simply because there are more people in general playing MMO's. I don't think a census has been done to determine the exact percentage, so I'm not going to try and speculate. However, back in my EQ days, There were a number of females in the guild I was in, which I had the opprotunity to meet a good number of them in real life so yes, they were actually female. Now along those lines, I've never personally met a female that plays WoW so I can't compair the "hotness" of the females back in EQ to now, but even if I could, like most of the posts on this forum go, what I think is hot might not be the same as what others think is hot so there would be no point in compairing them anyways.

I apologize if I missed any points people were trying to make and I do realize the OP posted in jest and can appreciate that. My reply is more for the others who took him too seriously. To them I say, get a wife or girlfriend (or boyfriend if that's you thing) and quit worrying about how many hot girls are playing video games.

    1) MySpace sucks and is lame

    2) Most of the chicks WoW lured in are E-Sluts

The guild I was in in WoW had quite a few female members, but I wouldn't consider them girls as much as women, they were married, had jobs, owned homes, 30s to 40s, same went for CoH and other games, I can't say, to my knowledge, I have actually encountered a girl playing an MMOG, well... ever, MMOGs seem to attract the more mature crowd, when it comes to women anyway.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

  • ApocalypticaApocalyptica Member Posts: 491
Well, when saying girl gamer, it usualy refers to the sex of the player, not the age. ;) I mean, I am 39 and would not call myself a woman gamer now, just doens't sound right ^^

my girlfriend is an exhibitionist, not a slut.   Please don't project your domestic problems onto me.

    just fyi!  =P

P.S.- Of all the female players I have met both in RL and on ventrilo... all of them played female characters... that is not to say that all do... but all I have met did.  I know three locally and have met at least 10 or so on ventrilo.
