Me and my girlfriend looking for something to play together.....

SkarmySkarmy Member Posts: 38

Well, we like gaming but currently I am unsure about the MMO market. I quit WoW and i don't want anything to do with it again... WoW to me became WAYY too n00b friendly and I guess I grew to despise the general WoW community due to maturity insufficiencies, greifers were never too big of a problem for me but the WoW world felt a bit linear at times and I didn't really like it .

She is an anime freak and I am indifferent about anime, I'll watch it and it can be somewhat interesting but I'm not really hooked on it like she is. We both really liked the game Oblivion, if that helps making sugguestions .... and why everything is yellow and underlined now I have no idea....

I have played several MMOs with little success getting into them including; SWG, CoH/CoV, EvE, Archlord, 9Dragons.

Anyways, thank you in advanced for any help you can provide :D

    I suggest EQ 2.

Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City.

there is a free mmo called Perfect World.    www.perfectworld.cc

EQ 2 is great for couples too

final fantasy XI is also another great one

Ragnarok online or Ragnarok Online 2.... these games have anime like avatars. Maybe Maple Story.

If shes an anime freak she might like Lineage 2.  Its structured around PvP and Clan politics.  Its a pretty hard core game as far as grinding to get to appropriate levels for PvP and to earn gear etc.  As bad as I hate to say it, most people in the game buy their currency.  Servers like Bartz are also very bot heavy, but honestly its never effected my gameplay so I cant really bitch about the number of bots.

If either of you are not into pvp, you wont like it.  If you're into heavy questing and PvE check out EQ2.  IMO its the best quest and PvE based game on the market and has longevity.

Maybe FFXI? its got an anime feel I think.... and would be more fun playing together since people say grouping is the best way to go...

Yeah.. if she likes cute characters.. FFXI has Tarutaru and sexy cat girls like the Mithra... FFXI is a heavy grind game but it's kinda fun if you don't mind XP grinding... also it's a heavy group enforced game as you get higher in the levels it's almost impossible to solo (around Level 15+ for most classes). The world is Vana'diel which is the same world type as Final Fantasy Tactics (kinda pseudo magical steampunk with magic and 18th century tech working side by side).

I would give Vanguard Saga of Heroes a try. I played WoW to endgame and was looking for something more sophisticated and involved and Vanguard fit the bill pretty well. Most of the complaints surrounding this game has to do with mismanaged expectations on the developers part and performance issues. If you have a computer with a 256M video card performance shouldn't be a problem. The graphics are great and the world is immersive. There's plenty to do and mosts quests you should be able to duo with your wife. I've played Vanguard since release and have had a lot of fun most every time I play. I also played EQ2 and the combat just wasn't involved enough for me - seemed like I just waited until timers ran out and pushed every button I could. Vanguard combat takes more thought and strategy.

I was kind of in the same potion just trying to find something me and my girl could do (i am in the states she is in austrilia at the moment) and we tried wow so so she really didnt care to much for it one way or the other, now the game i have her HOOKED on is EVE online if you ilke the sci fi thats a pretty cool and fun game (though you need to invest some time into it) to play together

My girlfriend and I played WoW together for quite sometime, then we tried LOTRO.

I would recommend LOTRO/EQ2 or perhaps even COH, maybe even Guild Wars depending on how much you will play together.

I wouldn't recommend FFXI, FFXI is not really for the casual gamer...though its the most fun ive ever had in an MMO.

What kind of experience are you looking for? Does it have to be a newer fresh MMO or are you ok with playing in a game where the low level areas are mostly abandoned and the graphics are getting old?

Newer games I suggest EQ2 or LOTRO.

Both got boring for me pretty quick, but both are actually good games and have healthy populations.  EQ2 is more outdated but still healthy and is a little more challenging and has a lot more depth.  LOTRO is much prettier and is almost brand new.   I would consider either for myself to hold me over till some new stuff releases, I personally would try LOTRO first because its newer and has a fresher community and economy.

Since she likes anime and you want a challenge L2 might be an option.

It's a great game but it also has a TON of shortcomings (heavily farmed, extremely long grind, most healers are 2boxed cause they are boring to play, you have to grind money for gear to stay competitive, you will get ganked often, and it uses point and click movement.

On the plus side its got nice graphics for its age, has a huge beautiful world to explore, and offers a stiff challenge.

Well AION has the right type of graphics to it [Anime] And according to its devs its going to be built to a western style [ie less grind].

Now i cant comment on this game as its not out yet but its one possability.

Try FlyFF, a couple of my friends play it with their gf's and are enjoying it.

if you really want the TES feel.  try wurm(try it for a bit for yourself it's very casual unfriendly unless you play it with lots of other people(towns))

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Ok I think maybe LOTRO ( she is big into LOTR, though it WAS fun to watch for me I just haven't found anything I can fanboy myself to.. she's a geek too that's part of my attraction to her :p)  I played the beta and the crafting seemed a lot less newb friendly that WoW how is end-game? PvP and end-game were my favorite part of WoW killing RL players and the satisfaction of working so hard on end-game bosses.

Also maybe FFXI, We both have played a large chunk of the FF games ( ending for me at X but I want to play XII BAD ) I played FFXI when it was first released but I hear it has changed in a big way since then so, maybe.....

She bought Vanguard not really knowing what was up with it, but I actually played beta and the ideas were brilliant but OMFG crafting pissed me off after i raised it to a certain point due to fails.. crafting in that game was my favorite thing but I think it should have been implimented better and I don't really know if I want to go with vanguard...

SO please give me word on FFXI's endgame and PvP along with LOTRO, I played LOTRO beta but I hope more has been added to it since when i played it was a wee bit lacking.

Also, I played EQ2 for a little while and decided that wasn't for me I enjoyed playing WoW loads better than EQ2 srry EQ2 is just not my cup'o'tea

AND to clarify sex talks : She is 19 and I am 21 what do YOU think we do when it's just " me and her " time, I'll leave that to the imagination.

I'm guessing you both want to play a MMORPG together because you're internet dating and half the world away from eachother?

Yup, then Second Life is for you; it'll probably be the best you ever get.

Thanks a lot for reminding me that no one on this board actually knows me or ANYTHING about my personal life, and my personal business is exactly THAT my personal business and NONE of yours, flame all you want but is of no concequence  to me because you fail miserably at affecting me one bit with your jealous banter.

But to clear this up, NO we're not E-dating, we just both like gaming and we wanted something we could do together. I'm sorry you're so upset that you can't find a gamer girl of your own that you denounce anyone who has a girlfriend that likes doing the gaming thing..

Skarmy i think  both you and your girlfriend  have a pretty good idea , propably better than many in here, concerning the mmorpg available atm.

i'd say stick to vanguard since there is a huge tweaking going on and wait till october for AoC

Me and my girlfriend have agreed on Age of Conan. Its a few months until release, but we will have something to play all winter

But she is a Conan freak, she like strong men with muscles...untill she meet me ofcourse. This is something that would make all girlfriends wanna play AoC. And its R rated and have a strong character creation we are told.

dont sweat these things.  Me and my girlfriend are pretty much attached 24/7.  We work a full time job together in the same department and see each other after work at least 5 times a week.  The days we dont see each other we're playing world of warcraft together.  She has a friend that lives out of state and we all share the same guild

I guess my point is to people like the bloke yer responding to, a lot of people have real life girl friends *gasp* .. I know.. its a shocker.  and girls, well some actually like to game

    its just about having fun.
