there will be a monthy fee for World of Warcraft, right now it is in beta and is currently free to those testing it. Its said that there will be an open beta where anyone can play it for free. But don't expect that phase to last long. Like 2 weeks to a month at most. I don't think they have said how much the mothly cost will be but you can extect anything from 12-15 bucks. my guess is its going to be something like 15.95.

It could be around $13 like most of the MMORPGs out right now...

Usually open BETA last from 1-2 months.  Then the game gets it final bug fixes then goes "gold".  After the game goes "gold" that's when the real testing starts...

What I mean is this... you can only test so far with so many people... untill 20,000 people are logging on at once, etc... you won't know what your servers will do... how the game will hold up when 500 people are all trying to use "action button xxxx" or whatever...

I am betting both EQ2 and WoW will be in the $14.95 - $14.99 range. image

n2sooners, I agree.. Wow and Eq2 will try to push the mothly fees up. Which is a shame because as it stands right now there isn't a game released with the exception of maybe EQ (which I haven't played) that has the content to justify monthy fees + expansion packs.

And by content I mean the kind that drives the story and involves the player base. Not the static content (new lands/mobs) that comes from expansion packs.

$14.99 isn't pushing the fee up, it is going with the flow. SWG pushed the fee up to that last year, and a number of games since have followed and done just fine. I don't see any reason to think EQ2 or WoW would go for anything less.

The monthley fee may seem high to some, but remember you can allways take a long term plan and its cheaper a month. Thats usually what I do.
