I think people are going off in 2 directions on this thred.
Firstly i beleive what my parents used to say, and that is 'if you dont have something good to say then dont say anything'. i mean whats the point in taunting someone and winding them up. No matter what the reason is.
And second the getting killed thing. People can whine if they dont want to get killed, i do this myself sometimes, but only when i get killed in an unfair fight. But if i walk into a warzone then i know i am risking my life then i wont complain, because i didnt NEED to be there. Also if i play a game which is 100% PvP then again, i didnt need to play the game so cant complain. But this isnt anything to do with being politie, this is just how the game works. but it links to the first point because yes you may have killed me and looted my corpse, but whats the point in saying i suck? either just go away and dont say anything, or try and say something either in role, or polite.
Insults as described above such as 'DIE YOU REBEL SCUM' are fine, they are not personal and are in character, but 'HAHA U SUXXXOR' is pointless, not in character, and just immature.
And as for general politeness, saying 'please can you do this for me', and 'thanks for that' takes no effort at all, and as in real life it is the way friends are made. so if somebody sells you something, or helps you in any way, then say thank you!
I personally believe that people should act polite with an aggressive edge, if that makes any sense. Be a slight role player when fighting. For instance you could be like:
"I'll cut your throat like i have many others, filthy orc!"
Stuff like that is completely acceptable as your following the role playing story. As for people saying "Thanks for your items", thats acceptable as well but it just pisses me off. Not that i die much anyway though right? haha just kidding
I have only taken part in PvP in one game, Anarchy Online. And it was really fun. The whole tower battles were amazing. I remember waking up at 4am to run over to my land area and stand there in a line waiting for our opponents. Then you could see them approaching from the hills and the mayhem began. Times like that were awesome, you could hear people begging for mercy and shouting in glory! Ah the good old anarchy online days.
"Not an Elite Member? Hows that happened?" <- you haven't posted in a while then
PvP or non PvP there is no use in being rude.. you can allways play the game with conflicts and war without getting personal.. if PvP is a part of the game then ppl that takes part of that should also be aware abuot the consequenses abuot it before they enter PvP...
but being rude to anyone should not hapen in a personal way when playing games.
Originally posted by HebrewBomb I think it's disgusting. People crying out for politeness in PvP oriented game are retards. Why don't they go play with barbies? Fairplay is rule of the game not gaayish politeness.
Off topic and on topic, I played UO a couple months after it came out, but only lasted a day. PK'ers killed the experience for me.
I loged into the game, had no clue where I was took about 20 steps and someone killed me.... Then I was a ghost, and I spent the next hour trying to find out how to get resurected, no one wanted to help me unless I paid them, but I had no cash.... Then a nic player resurrected me... then 5 mins later I got killed again... In total I thik I played the game for about 2 hours, never saw much and never got a single point of xp to advance my toon. I logged off and cancelled. This game wasn't for me.
As for that "no politness in PvP, go play with barbies" crap, if all your interested in doing is killing other players and cursing them out for it, by all means play unreal or quake and havea blast. Leave the virtual worlds games to the people who feel like exploring them and trying to unfold the story (if any). PvP is fun but shouldn't encompase or hinder the play of others in a "story" driven mmorpg.
