The Game's Openness?

SoldarithSoldarith Member Posts: 184

Forgive me in advance for sneaking multiple questions in but I have a few that I'd like to share with the SGW team as well as the MMORPG community.

1.) How open and enjoyable will the game be for those of us who may not have followed any of the Stargate TV series? Will the series uninitiated still be able to follow the story lines, or will it be reserved to the hardcore fans? I did, however, watch and loved the movie very much!

2.) Along the same lines as #1, just a different angle: Tell us what your target audience is for playing your game and how you feel this game will meet that audience's expectations?

3.) What would you say will define (or should I say, "sit apart") this game from all of the other games of the same genre on the market today? What will the title bring to the market that isn't already available through other titles?

4.) Will the game's world be story-driven a 'la main theme quest lines? If so, what will keep players interested in the game and its content, month after month, once they have progressed through those quest lines?

5.) What is the development team's overall approach and philosophy regarding content balance among casual and hardware game players? How do they expect to address these two distinctive playstyles within the game?

6.) I would assume that travel will play a very large role within the game, since the Stargate is one of the main themes behind the story's success. Outside of the obvious of players using Stargate(s) and using their legs for transportation/travel, how will players (if at all) be able to travel between locations quickly?

7.) How much freedom and choice will players have in defining the looks of their characters/avatars within the game? Could you compare the process to any other title in the industry? How, if at all, will this process continue throughout the lifetime of the character (e.g. equipment graphics, clothing dyes, crafted items, etc)?

8.) Are there plans to implement a Personal Progressive Skill (which I will call "PPS" - Don't be too harsh, I just made this up), in the form of tradeskills, professions, or craftskills that is not combat-oriented within the game? If so, do you have information on how many distinctive PPS will be ultimately available within the game?

9.) Talk to us about character progression within the game. Will character progression follow the standard level-based MMO design or will it deviate from that model somehow? How will the development team overcome the player feeling of "grinding" to gain levels or achieve a sense of "progression" with their character?

10.) Lastly, if the development team could say anything, collectively, to the community-in-waiting, about the Stargate Worlds game, what would it be? I know this is more of a free-form open-ended question, but many MMORPGers have been looking toward this title for some time now. I believe many of us (or maybe just me?) would like to hear what the development team's overall feeling is, about how the game is coming together and what they believe they will be delivering to market when it is all said and done.

Thank you kindly in advance for any questions you may be able to respond to!

this is what a community member on their main forum knows what is up... though I cannot speak for the ones that question what CME thinks of so and such since well.. I'm not part of CME lol

1 they are probably going to aim it at well more then 1 audience one being the one you just discribed

2 they will be aiming it at the gaters*or stargate watchers*, people that play mmo's and people that are new to MMO's *although they are probably aiming at more*

3 stargate for a start   there is a lack of modern MMO's would you not say

4 the game has a low level cap *200 hours* which is well.. the level cap and I am certain that  there will be somthing to do even after that is reached *I am thinking at the moment pvp and puzzles*

     5 can't really say that can I

6 they really have not talked about it but chances are there will be other methods such as the rings and other things too, of course this is specualtion since they *they being the devs* have not really said anything about it

7 once again this game is in early production so there is not that much info on that,  although i would bet that there will be a custimazation chance for all

8 once again the game is still early in life altough there are at least one class thats not combate dependant *scientist* although several other classes can be custimized too so .. at the moment we really don't know much about it

9 can't really say that either, although at the moment there is a 200  hour level cap on the game thats what i can say for a certainty and well .. they want the game so that a person can re rolll. and see the story on another sides view

10 can't really say anything about that either

sorry but this game was  just out of pre production in feb so really we as a community does not know much although I am certain that Scepter will respond some time .. *as in probably right before I post *   with hopfully more info  but pretty much thats the summery of what we as a community on the SGW forums knows about the game at the moment

I will pass along your questions to the dev team! While I cannot speak for them, I can answer a couple of questions for you from my own perspective ...

    1) It is extremely important to us to have a product which will be compatible with current MMO players -- not just Stargate fans. Though Stargate is watched in over 120 countries by millions of viewers, it is still somewhat of a niche audience. The game will definitely be for those who love the movie and series, but will also certainly be for those who don't even know what a Stargate is.

    2) Joe Ybarra discusses the four target audiences in "Dev Q&A: Episode I," here.

    4) The game will have a main story, as well as sub-stories. As Chris Klug has stated in Episode I, the story will be a more important than in an MMO such as WoW.

    6) Stargate has many different modes of transportation -- not just Stargates. You have transport rings, Asgard beaming technology, and even quantum mirror technology. I'm sure we'll be able to come up with something :)

    9) You're not going to have to worry about grinding in this game.

    10) Dan Elggren recently gave an interview in which he updated the game's progress. Visit it here.
