Hello, I would like to ask a question, that maybe someone can answer to me, because it has been puzzling me, ever since I kinda saw the way combat is supposed to take place in this game.
The combat style in this game seems to be directly responsive to the player instead of an 'auto-swing' kinda style that many other MMOs have (see WoW i.e.). I am puzzled as to how this style is going to work with all the lag that is usually associated with MMOs. To be more specific, when I am lagging in Battlefield or any other FPS game server, I am usually fragged down without realising what's going on around me. Is this going to be the case in Conan as well? How is Funcom planning to cope with lag related issues on the massive scale of combat that they are planning to implement, and is it really going to work, without having the person with the smallest latency dominating the person with the higher latency, because of that advantage he gets on the response time?
I know from my experience, that even in games like WoW, with extremely simplified combat systems, lagging in the arena usually meant that me and my team would lose the match. I have a 1Mb connection, is the game going to be playable for me you reckon, or am I going to be shut off by latency requirements?
Thanks.

they said these words: "We have really, really, really, good coders"
Would be interesting if everyone is forced down to the slowest persons latency to sync everything up, but that would really really suck. I doubt that would happen, but it's just a thought.
I don't think that response kinda answers my question.
I don't want to sound cocky or anything, but Funcom replies that 'they have good coders'? Like the people behind Battlefield or Unreal Tournament don't? Do they have a platform or a plan that will work around latency related issues or will they just say 'upgrade your connection scrub!' and be done with it?
(I hope these good coders aren't the Anarchy Online people but newly recruited )

I lol'd

I lol'd again
And MMOs evolution cant just stand still because some players are afraid of lag. Think of tha games released four years in the future.....
Try to get better internet connection, thats what i did (i moved)

Well, where I live, I can't really afford to pay for more than 1Mbps for my connection.
I hope your stance is not the official Funcom one.
Can really help you with servers / connection issues sorry, however, for a bit more info about the game engine and lag discussion see here: http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?p=812251#post812251
Latency and combat issues can be read about here: Read Athelans answers there are so in there in relation to your question

Here is a great place to search for dev quotes http://bymitra.com/search/11841
Apart from that we are just going to have to be patient and wait for an official announcement about our concerns, which I am sure they know about. Its not like they set out to make this game with this specific combat and not knowing its going to be an mmo right!
