Sad Wal-Mart Story

Read this ladies story. It's really sad how she has been treated. 
Apparently, she bought some flip-flops at Wal-Mart that were made in (surprise) China. Now her feet are messed up from a burn she got wearing them. Wal-Mart referred her to the Chinese company to straighten out the matter.
Is this what we have to look forward to when we have a problem with an imported item these days. I recently saw a book where a woman tried to go for a set time without buying anything made in China. She said it was dang near impossible to do. And there have been a lot of recent stories about Chinese products hurting people and pets.
I used to think that globalization was something we just couldn't resist and thought it might turn out okay. But I'm really starting to think otherwise. It's not okay when things like this allow a company to import items here and then use their out of country status to hide from litigation. What other recourse does this poor lady have?

Damn! Wonder what kind of chemical caused that. We need to remember the old adage. You get what you pay for. Don't go expecting products made on the cheap to be in any way safe. I expect to see more stuff like this popping up.
Shitty, but sadly not surprising. WalMart is just... beyond the pale when it comes to Corporate scumbag pigfucker-y.
I did like the one persons idea to pick up shares of WalMart, so as to get a voice in the Boardroom. Get enough people together, to buy enough shares, and they could conceivably put the screws to WalMart in a big way.
People always make these suggestions, from microsoft to apple, from walmart to that hindu store that sells mustard flavored curry on my corner.
They just never do anything, the American way.
THat is very wrong. I don't know much about consumer law, but when Walmart decided to sell such said item in their stores, they take responsibility for that item. They are not an affiliate of that chinese company, they had bought such said items from where ever they got them from, and are selling it themselves for profit. Thus they should take full responsibilty. And as far as I know, and let me tell you thats pretty far, flip flops don't come with a terms of service agreement on purchase or anything that you would find with any piece of electronic.
And about the stock thing, that would be good. But i believe that the walmart family, i don't remember their last name, hold a large majority of the shares, and i don't think that many stock holders will come together and vote to lose money.

Man, that sucks...yea, seeing news like these and some documentaries on tv...China is really in their industrialization phase... Hardly any decent regulations...

This is what lawsuits are for. You'd think that woman would have ambulance chasers lined up around the block to sue Wal-Mart for her.
The Chinese screwed up dog food, they screwed up toothpaste, now they screw up plastic flip flops. Pretty pathetic that their quality control is so terrible.

The "get what you pay for" thing is dead on. With globalization and the economy you can get eather low price or high quality. Not both.

Well... that would be one way to destroy America: Subvert it's defenses with crappy products. I guess that sloth and stupidity won't destroy us after all, our doom will be the horror that is a faulty EZ-Bake Oven.

That isn't the case anymore, even expensive items are made out of the same conditions in not just china but other countries.
She has the rights to sue for pain and suffering both wal-mart and the company that produces, and if she can sue the main company then they can't do buisness in the US, as then they wouldn't be accountable for US trade laws. The only thing that could save the company is if there was a warning sticker, perhaps reading like this..
