Darkfall Developer Journal #11: Aerdin Cat Video

It was nice that DF Warcry took the blame for the lack of update last week but it's our fault as well. We had to travel on business which took longer than expected, and then E3 got in the way so we all got behind and lost track, and here we are, minus a couple of journals. We might also have to take a break from the journal on August 15th but I'll try to plan for it if possible.

Since our last status update, there is not much to report: we've been fighting to meet our milestones, we've been adding content, and we've been testing. The beta build is essentially a release version functionality-wise so there are numerous things to go over.

There have been some updates to the website and now all races except for the humans are updated. They're next when we get a chance. I was going to add a couple of screenshots, but Henning took the time to put together a short video featuring the Mirdain mount, the Aerdin Cat, which you can view here:

I liked the general atmospheric feel of the video (if not a tad autumny) and that the elven mount is by no means 'cute'.

we dont need any more mounts, we need these guys to do some work on the world and game itself. I mean dam how many more mounts are they going to add??? They should add the 1000 mounts they want to AFTER the game is released, dam im tired of these mounts, we dont need 40 different mounts.

because their way has taken them over 6 years to push this game out. The least of their worrys should be mounts. They should be working on pushing this game out, apparently you havent noticed, but every professional and half way decent company releases their game and then adds further content like mounts. Darkfall already has mounts, it has about a dozen of them. and yeah i was (edit) EXAGGERATING with the 40 mounts......... although by time this game does get released i wouldnt be surprised if their were 40 mounts.

Aventurine was formed in october 2002 and most of the devlopers were not "in house" until the beginning of 2003. That is 4,5 years or something like that. Its about the same as AoC and they have alot more ppl to thorw at the development. As for the mount comment, that is just silly.

I've been following Darkfall for about 6 years now, since 2001.

I just got banned from the forums for saying that it looks like beta is a long way off based on this video.

This video shows a rider on a mount running in a straight line for 30 seconds without any combat or even changing directions.

This game is obviously not anywhere near ready for even a beta release, but the moderators didn't like to hear that.

Banning people for stating the obvious seems like a desperation move to me.

But its funny because after they banned me, about 6 more people said the same thing. (Their posts were probably deleted though).

Makes me even more doubtful that the game will ever come out.

I'm not surprised by the rumors that they tried to sell the game.

All indications point to a development team that bit off way more than it can chew.

The DF forum moderators should just ban everyone and write all the posts themselves cuz they can't handle the truth.

A couple people said "This video wasn't meant to show combat." (And i got banned for my reply) Please.

If the cat could turn, and fight, and the rider could fight, and they had all that awesome capability done and in the game, what could possibly motivate them to leave it out of the video?

Bottom line is this:

This video shows:

A cat

running

In a straight line

up a gentle slope

over really nice-looking grass

while shadows are cast by some (but not all) of the trees

The end.

Maybe the dev team should change the title to "Hank Hill's Lawn-Mowing Simulator."

That might be more in line with their apparent interests and abilities.

And in pre-emptive response to any flames I might get from still-deluded followers of DF:

I wasted my 5 minutes writing this post because I am annoyed at being lied to over the years and banned.

5 minutes to make an account here and write this post is nothing compared to the hours I spent following DF over the past 6 years - back when I believed the lies.

Even if they do someday release a game - an unlikely event - they still don't deserve to have any fans after the way they lied to us and generally treated us like crap for so many years.

Darkfall is covered with the stink of failure from the forum moderators to the "Developer Journals" to the stale videos.

It is nothing but empty promises so far.

A lot of people don't like to hear that. Kinda like when you tell a little kid there is no Santa Claus and the kid gets upset.

But its just a fact. Sad. But true.

End of rant.

It will take the time it has to take to make this game happen. I am tired of companies who rush their games out for any reason, I do not want another Vanguard, so I say take your time to make the game work and do not worry about those guys who whine all the time about everything. The game takes too long to come, the game has been release too early, these are all the same people, just read in this forum and you will always see the name whining about these 2 reason.

I didn't say they should rush it out.

I said that based on the video, beta won't happen this year.

I guess a lot of people are just too dumb to understand the difference between

A) "OMFG THEY NEED TO RELEASE NOW" and

Don't expect beta this year.

It's really not a difficult distinction to make. But with a really low IQ, I guess anything can be confusing.

Anyone who suggests that the fanbase be given a little more info about where the game is at in development gets a flame-response from the Darkfall Mods along the lines of "How dare you ask for more updates?!? You should be happy with whatever we give you."

Bottom line: A) the mods at Darkfall suck and the game is nowhere near beta.

These are just facts, not "whining" at all. I really don't give a crap about either anymore.

Then they should show it in their fucking videos. When was the last time there was a combat video???? or something that shows that this game is makeing progress rather then mounts??? I dont believe their words anymore, a video would make me believe though. AND YEAH BASICALLY IN EVERY UPDATE. Every update says the SAME THING with another different mount video.

Erm we had a combat video just a few months ago...so you don't read about Darkfall or visit the website and then complain that there is nothing new?

Also what exactly does Adverutrine owe you, what have you done for them that gives you the right to demand things? You are either very self important or very stupid, I'd say probably both.

The single most important thing that Darkfall does now is not release until the game is finished and not make the same mistake that Shadowbane, Vanguard and Dark & Light did.

Lets all raise our voices make sure that Adveturine hears us screaming "Take you're time guys, were behind you even if it takes 10 more years".

I'll have AoC to waste my time on until Darkfall comes out anyway so I'll be ok for a year or two, then when Darkfall releases it's finished game I'll uninstall AoC, cancel my subscription and throw the cd in the bin never to be played again.

I'm sorry what post of mine "demanded" anything?? or when did i say they "owed" me anything?? i was just pissed because im getting tired of these mount videos, they say the same thing in every devlog and put out a mount video, or some scenery video, and maybe a combat video here or there.

Vanguard ran out of money ...... Shadowbane??? That was pretty decent during the time i played it. D&L, i guess they did i never really cared about them.
