Release Date= problem?

I've got to say the only thing i think is bad about AOC is its release date. i was planning on getting a good mmo during the summer, but AOC and most of the innovative new mmos are going to be released in fall, so i'll be strained for time due to school. Does anyone else have this problem?

Don't worry, It won't make the fall release date... it has no chance in hell.

Early 2008 is your best bet.

What can I say?  All we can really do is wait.  Try and find something else to keep ya busy (not necessarily an MMO) to keep you occupied for the time being.

LOL, someday you'll have a wife, 2 kids, a job that keeps you out of the house for 12 hours a day, coach a little league team, run a scout troop and somehow find time for gaming (sleep is very optional as you'll find out)

Strained for time.... you have no clue....

But, back on topic... i agree... AOC...early next year I'm now thinking....

Unfortunately i have nothing to keep me busy. No games, sports, or anything. I just moved to a new state in the U.S  and my boredom level just hit the maximum.

    Care to wadger on this?

Funcom has money invested into that release date.  They've got partnerships with Nvidia and Microsoft,  and all of which have been  even stilli insisting Oct 30th release date.    I don't think they can push that release date so easily as some people would like for you to believe.

Isn't that a bad thing? If the release date needs to be pushed back but sponsorship doesn't allow it, then the game will just end up in the gutter.

Im very spectical on the release date but I REALLY hope it sticks. Its comming out in perfect time for me if its oct 30th ( work really slows down then.. maybe 30 hours a week max. ) so i'll have lots of time to play. If it gets pushed passed into 2008 that will suck. I think it may stick just because of all the recent advertisements stating oct 30th, not "comming this fall" or winter etc... so it looks like its set in stone.

This game will be pushed back to 2008.  No doubt anymore.  So maybe you'll be on Christmas break or something :D

Funcom's last MMO, Anarchy Online, had a disastrous launch. I would hope they would have learned from that not to rush a product into retail before it is ready. I'd love to see the game Oct. 30, but I'd rather wait than have a bad launch.

ThaneB, i also have the same problem. i was cruising arround the internet trying to find a cool MMORPG for the summer and i saw AOC which, for me, was the most promising game in development. i started to read some of its features and i saw the release date... "DAMN" was the word that came to my mind imediately, but hey, what ya gonna do? just have to wait and believe that it will be worth it, thats my advise.

why do you think they rush it??The original release was spring 2006,then fall 2006,then spring 2007 and finally now fall 2007.So i think they have taken the time they need

    This release date will stick.

They've never advertised a release date untill now.  Sure media outlates were told a rough timeframes like Q2 2006, but they've never set a date.   They've been pushing this date at every possible media outlet that would listen.   Reguardless of the games state of readiness,  which NONE of us are in the situation to comment on, because NONE of us have played it.  This game will most likely release in October.   Anyone that thinks they will,  try giving some good reasons why you think they would not.   Every thing I've seen has lead me to believe that it will most likely release, but I'm open for good factual information to help me better make a judgement, but thus far the evidence points to a positive release date.

Warning unfounded speculation ahead ,not to mention some slightly off topic stuff

Myself I think it is suffering from the EQII/Vanguard syndrome. That is the graphics cards have not caught up to the engine yet or DX10 and Vista was not all of what the developers hoped it would be. Graphics that were poorly optimized and ahead of the slope in hardware hurt the heck out of EQII at launch and is still hurting Vanguard. Vanguards was just a lot of piss poor graphics design on Sigils end more than a simple case of poor optimization. I don't understand all of it but a graphics designer on another board went into so much detail on Vanguards graphic design and why it took so much graphics engine to run it that the posts made my head hurt..

Anyway if they release before it is working smoothly it will be suicide on their part, and I doubt anyone can argue otherwise. Better to wait another year if that's what it takes. I think I just read they got another funding so they should have the money to do so.

    I miss DAoC

As long as they code it well, and allow for scaleing of the graphics, that whole problem, can be avoided.   Don't play with max'd settings if your playing on 6600GT's x 2 SLI'd

thing is Tach, some of the reviewers at E3 said it was choppy on the demo machines and you know they had more than a couple of 6800's in them. Hell I dunno, we will all have to  wait and see I guess and hope for the best I suppose.

They said they were using 8800GTX's  and the settings were cranked up.  They needed to have them cranked up because when you blow the image up to 100 Inch screen, it wouldn't  do it any justice.

With your Spec's I wouldn't Try to take on this game.

MAYBE if you get 2gig's of RAM,  and Upgrade your processor to the best your Mobo will handle.  Given the age of those pieces of hardware it'll prolly only cost ya 250-300 bucks to do so.
