RFID, they warned, would soon enable the government to "frisk" citizens electronically — an invisible, undetectable search performed by readers posted at "hotspots" along roadsides and in pedestrian areas. It might even be used to squeal on employees while they worked; time spent at the water cooler, in the bathroom, in a designated smoking area could one day be broadcast, recorded and compiled in off-limits, company databases.

The moment an employer tells me they want to 'chip' me is the moment I tell them to go to hell. If I were fired over it I would file a lawsuit, I do not believe that this level of surveillance is at all justified or legal.
We talkin movie Umbrella? Or game Umbrella? I wonder because at the start of Re4, Leon starts the prologue by mentioning that Umbrella is financially destroyed, and for all purposes, gone. Of course.. wouldn't it be appropriate for a company that can make zombies to play dead?
Oh, and agreed on the chipping thing. Seems like a good opportunity to throw out a good ole fashioned 'fuck off'.
Although I disagree with having a national ID card, an implanted chip is a new beast entirely. There is a huge difference between an external identifier and a chip put into your body.
Think of it this way, would you allow a barcode to be tatooed on the back of your neck?
A national I.D. card, with the RFID technology that is used in a personal implanted chip, is one step in that direction. Today a lot of corporations on pushing this chip, literally through the skin of people in some cases, on employees. It is a bizarre marriage between big business and big government who benefit from this chip.
The same interests will insist it is beneficial for us, and some will believe this. First, it will be good to locate your missing children. Second, it will be good to locate your senile and missing grandmother. Third, it will be useful for high security companies. The benefits will be endless. From walking into a store to skip check-out lines because your chip is automatically billed. The consequences to our civil rights, liberties, and privacy will be devastating. It is the most invasive thing I can think of short of a tattoo on the back of our necks with out social security number.

And in this instance they could make a good argument about all the ways it's good for us. And there really would be good, positive applications. The problem is, once the system is in place it's so easy to use it more for control than for our benefit.
Check the books, regardless of how corny they are, Umbrella is still around as a phantom corp.
They now reside mainly in eastern europe after the U.N abolishes their rights.

Down in Miami this is already starting. People put chips just under their skin with credit card data. Many nightclubs have readers that will scan it and charge it, all so they don't have to carry around anything extra.
It is not hip or trendy to be a human being with a microchip in your body with your credit card information. I do not want this chip in my dog, in my children, in my grandmother, or anyone else.

But I thought we needed the Patriot Act to keep us all safe at night from the evil terrorists from climbing into our beds and killing us in our sleep. I, personally, feel better that GWB has Santa like powers. He knows if you are sleeping. He knows if you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good, so be good or end up in Gitmo.
