My point: The game will have an older playerbase (on average), but don't expect the community to be a utopia of reasonable and mature people. Reasons:
- This "M" rated content effectively targets primal, masculine desires.
- Those desires pretty much play off of the typical lust, anger and angst of youth.
- If that player, (old or young) is feeding those primal desires, their behavior and interaction with other players will parallel that regressed emotional state.
Couple that with some basic MMO truths:
- A person's maturity level isn't as simple as their age.
- Anonymity tends brings out a persons "real" self (no accountability), and its usually not pleasant, regardless of age.
Blood spray and boobs are exactly that. Blood spray and boobs. They aren't a barrier to keeping out the mythical "immature kiddies" that ruin communities. (I'm 26).
I'm NOT hating on this game, it looks interesting and I plan to try it. But there are a lot of people who just need to get real about AoC.
If you go into this game expecting a refreshing level of maturity, you'll be sorely dissapointed. When you are, please don't fill the forums with self righteous flames and thoughtless trolling. I already played WoW.

I hope the game is full of lots of 'unpleasant' people, who would sooner spit on you than talk to you. I hope arrogance is rampet! This will really add to the world that the game is set in!
I do however just want to see less of the WOW talk like 'i pwned that noob hard' etc... Replace the words 'pwned' & 'noob' with some harsh swearing and it will be ok with me

I have only met very few unpleasant people in a game with a monthly fee. Even games without monthly fee, seems to have matured these days. The gaming community as a whole seems to get older and more mature. I think you are a cynical.
that harsh swearing will more then likly have your account suspended on serveral occasions, look at WoWs crap they do. I got a 3 day for saying stfu, then a another 3 day for saying wtf. to me thats just retarded, I really hope the games support system with "telling" on others is ALOT better the blizzard cause if not this will just be another ban fest for GMs

Arcona I completly DISAGREE with everything you just put into your post about the mmo community. You think the MMO community has gotten mature? ROFLMAO this website alone is riddled with immaturity at its best, and there is no monthly fee here,practically I havent found 1 game with ALL mature players on it and I know I never will.
I'm not above admitting that I may be cynical, but my recent experiences have definitely been different from yours. What game(s) are you playing??

There are plenty of mature kids and immature adults, as well as vice versa. Believe it or not, but some immature people will have the same gaming interests as you. In an online environment that means you will have to deal with them. Fear not, most online games have wonderful 'block' or 'ignore' functions that will solve all the woes of dealing with people you dont like.
Seriously, find a decent guild you like to group with and you wont have to deal with the annoying pickup trolls. Adult content doesnt mean adult players, but it does mean more fun for some of us that like blood and gore.
ah, i think the community will kick it up a notch, but theres always going to be idiots.. i dont think anyone expects otherwise

Its no use to try to figure out what age and level of "maturity" the playerbase will be.
A MMO player is a MMO player. And you also know.......people change all the time. idiotes in one game can be really good guild leaders in another, and the other way around.

I dont expect everyone in Age of Conan to be wholefully mature.. thats impossible. In every game, regardless of title and rating there will be players of all ages..
I do however, expect to find groups of mature players who take things seriously.. all games.. just as they all have every age group.. will have this group of people. These are the people im going to play the game along side.. people who don't giggle like school-girls when they see bare breasts and hear the word nudity.
I know theres going to be breasts and gore.. but thats Conan for you.. I could care less whether the developers did it to appeal to a wider audence or did it for the reason they say they did.. for Conan.. i'm going to play the game.. and so what if i'm doing it for 'Primal' emotions.. i want to be a barbarian.. hell yes! I want to run around and hack things down and feel badass doing it. Hell yeah! I want to fight my bud in a bar fists in fists.. you're damn straight..
But the boobs and gore doesn't make the reason why i want to play the game.. Ive got breasts to play with here at home.. and the gore? I rode shotgun in an ambulance for a summer.. its nothing to get excited about anymore...
Frankly i could care less who the game pulls in. All i care about is if i'm going to enjoy the game.. not whether or not a 15 year old is going to squeal over breasts or not.

The only reason I, personally, would think AoC would have an .... older.... crowd is that fact that is is Conan based. The movie, cheesy cartoon and of course the books were really big in the generation of people who are now in thier late 20s, early 30s. I do, however, agree that "M" rating will draw in more goobers then not but to counter this aspect I am sure that the idea of the game NOT being a button clicking MMO will trun them away elsewhere.
And of course the subnote is age does NOT equal maturity, no matter what we say and debate about the people who state"I am a Guardian who is a DPSer, not at tank," "ZOMFG PWNAGE," and "1337;" will exist and most will stay. These are my words of inspiration.
Ignore the masses just join a good guild if you dont want to deal with goobers
I am tired of seeing posts like these where the M rating will bring in kids etc, guess what theres a million M rated games out there that kids dont play. Kids play wow because of its fantasy setting, its easy to play, and the graphic atmosphere. AoC isnt like that, and its more mature oriented, from the way you play to how the world looks also to play AoC you are going to need a much better computer than lets say wow. Kids and immature people are in every game, but also there are mature players in every game, just like irl you got kids and adults, and you have the option to associate with whomever you want. Kids and immature players are part of our community and they will be in every MMO out there, its best to deal with this fact than point fingers at games and how they will have immature players.

The mature rating would bother me a bit, since mature rated games are likely to attract immature people, but considering that AoC isn't being made for a mass market, like GTA was, you will probably be playing with people that, like MMOGs, and/or like Conan, both of which tend to consist of older people, of course age does not equal maturity, but it helps.
Yeah there will probably be some immature people playing, but if they are just playing for the nudity and gore, they probably won't stick around too long.

At first i was like "what the hell" when i read the title but you actualy made sense. I can see this happening but i would think its up to the player to let bs like that not bother them and woop some ass in game.
As far as boobies go in this game, why would a kid join the game just for that? I dont get it, kids are getting laid in their 15s now, and porn is free by the tons on the internet, do you think they will level up a toon just to see a demon with boobs showing? Really get a grip, the boobs add into the mature atmosphere which Funcom is trying to establish amongst other things and also its based on Conan and Hyboria also it takes place in 10000 b.c.
